Good morning.   Thanks for the Fleet and Daily Report.

Happy Thanksgiving.  We had our "big meal" yesterday, just Jim and I, and it was very good.  I made everything except the cranberry sauce.  For some reason, we like the canned stuff better than homemade.   My pumpkin pie turned out really good.  And we have leftovers for today.🙂

I haven't read the Harry Potter books so I don't understand everything about the quote, but I get the gist of it.

I don't know what the meal suggestion is, I'll wait until I see the recipe.

I'm sure I'll like the drink and the wine.

Prayers for everyone.

Have a wonderful day.

Stay safe.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to our Canadian friends.

Thank you for today's fleet reports and Daily Rich.

Interesting days.

We called at Hilo on 23rd November 2019 during our Hawaiian cruise on Grand Princess.

I hope everyone is well.

Prayers for everyone on the care list.

Graham.

Thank you Rich for the Thanksgiving/Columbus/Indigenous People's Day report.  I wish we did a little more here to encourage metrics; it's presently a very chilly 4C here today but going up to 20.  I got a bit of a chuckle out of the Rowling quote.  Been to Hilo once on Crystal Symphony, way back in 2010.  No idea what the meal is.  My alternative is Chilled Mango Gazpacho, Rustic Home Made Lasagna, and Cherry Crisp as served on MS Amsterdam October 10, 2017.

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for the daily fleet report.  I’m not sure what today’s meal suggestion is so will wait for recipes and pictures.  Today is a work day for me.  The company reduced the number of paid holidays we get and this one was taken away.  It was nice watching the Zaandam come into port today, if she departs close to on time I hope to watch the sail away.  I hope everyone enjoys their holiday today.

Tahdig is a traditional Persian rice dish. The name tahdig means bottom of the pot, referring to the crispy layer of crusty rice at the bottom of the cooking pot. The dish is typically made with basmati rice, ghee or oil, and salt, while turmeric and saffron can also be added for a nice touch of color and flavor.

This is a step-by-step recipe.

I enjoy listening to The Splendid Table on NPR.  Here is their recipe.

Good morning from Saguenay!  It’s a cloudy chilly 37 degrees F and supposed to reach 48.

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving. Tonight’s menu hasn’t been posted yet but I’m hoping Turkey is offered.

This is Montmorency Falls from our sail away yesterday. I saw it just in time to get a picture.

Happy Thanksgiving to my neighbors up North!

Thank you for taking the Report & Daily on location with you, Rich! @Sharon in AZ Sharon thank you for sharing that wonderful picture of the Dailyites!  @StLouisCruisers Sandi, thank you for sharing the picture of precious Elliott Rose!

Roy thank you for keeping up with our ever-changing lists. Another lovely day here. The deer were everywhere this morning. They let Bindi and I get very close to them these days. Maybe they have figured out we are not threats.

One of my favorite pictures from Hilo is from inside a lava tube.

Off to the gym. I got my flu shot yesterday and certain movements make me aware of it, so I will see what I can do. Then Bindi walks and chores.

Vignobles Mayard 2017 Domaine du Père Pape

It is not very often that I find a Château Neuf du Pape within my budget range. And this one has superb reviews from consumers and critics. A bit elusive, but there are several online distributors with prices starting at $38.98.

95 Wine Enthusiast

A small addition of Cinsault in this Grenache-Syrah-Mourvèdre blend seems to contribute smoky shades of earth and bramble to otherwise pure, luminous blackberry and cherry. Vinified in concrete and matured in large-format foudres, it's a rapturously fruity, concentrated red framed by firm, strident tannins that should meld as the wine gains complexity and depth through this next decade. Drink through 2029.

Happy to celebrate Indigenous people!  The metric system is used here daily 😉 LOL at the Rowling quote 🙂 We visited Hilo on our Hawaii, Tahiti and Marquesas cruise and, of course went to the Volcano National Park.  Very educational and interesting, indeed 👍

We had an enjoyable afternoon & dinner yesterday.  All the ladies “clicked” and I would say all had a nice time 👍 And yes, evil me had wine 🙂

A very early good morning from central Texas.  I woke up early and couldn't get back to sleep.  At least, I should be able to get the house cleaning finished early today.  🤞

HAPPY THANKSGIVING DAY to all our Canadian Dailyites.

All days are worth celebrating, especially Indigenous Peoples Day.  I am finally beginning to get comfortable with the metric system, but DH, DDs and their guys are all comfortable using the metric system.

I'm not a fan of today's quote, although I enjoyed the Harry Potter books.

We'll pass on the meal and the drink.  The wine sounds like one I would enjoy.

@grapau27  Graham, I hope all goes well with the doctor visit today.

@cat shepard  Ann, take it easy with the sore arm.  Good to know you got your flu shot..

@kazu  Jacqui, I was happy to read that the dinner yesterday was a success and that everyone clicked.

We've been to Hilo, and this is what I posted on September 30, 2021

We have been to Hilo many times, several in pre-digital days.  The most memorable was in 1996 on the old Star Princess (hadn't discovered HAL yet) the captain spent a long time off the coast about midnight so we could watch the lava flowing into the Pacific.  My pictures are a combination from different cruises beginning in 2007.

Here are three pictures of Rainbow Falls taken different years with different water flows.

Only once have we not rented a car in Hilo.  In 2007, did a tour to Mauna Kea and the observatories on the mountain top.  The was taken from the ship on one visit.  There is snow on Mauna Kea and you can see the observatory above the snow.

Some of the telescopes.  The one that is open is a solar telescope.

On another visit we drove north along the coast and stopped at the Waipo Lookout.  There is a view of the valley where the residents farm.  The road into the valley is very steep and we did not want to attempt it.

Before the last big eruption of Kilauea, we were there on February 25. 2017, and lava was erupting in the caldera.  This is a little fuzzy as I had to zoom a long way.

No, it’s Thanksgiving.  Everything is closed.  Have to wait until tomorrow to take the SUV in / have it towed.  Not sure if it it should be driven or not - if it’s the same problem it shouldn’t be.  Will call tomorrow to double check

Here are the rest of the pictures from September 30, 2021.

I have a few more pictures from Hilo, but I cannot find any pictures of downtown Hilo.  I am sure I took some pictures of the town, but about that time iTunes was giving me trouble putting my pictures on my iPad.  Since iTunes added pictures that were not in the folders I downloaded, I suspect it may have deleted others.  I guess we'll just have to take another cruise to Hawaii.

We had tried several times to visit the Imiloa Astronomy Center, but by the time we got there it was closed.  In 2018, we finally made it on a day they were having an open house and food fair.  Here are just a few pictures from the center.

DSC02992.thumb.JPG.52a3de632bbe470f77b8a099e7ebcfb5.JPG

DSC03002.thumb.JPG.52bf959dfbaa216d869339652c4129ec.JPG

In 2017, after visiting the Volcanoes National Park, we turned off the main highway to town and headed to a road and neighborhood that had been covered in lava during one of the eruptions.  This is what we saw from the end of the road, but decided we did not have time to hike out there.

DSC08641.thumb.JPG.9ea22acf67de6f097b6f10c41f4bf162.JPG

From the end of the road, we turned toward the coast and found this local place.

DSC08643.thumb.JPG.d457e9bee6c1da5e249c7792c852edc2.JPG

We followed the coast toward Hilo until we realized we needed to turn around and retrace our route since the coast road did not go all the way to Hilo.  A couple of scenes along the coast.

To our Daily friends in Canada:

Good morning Daily-ites. Hoping all of our sailing friends are having a lovely time. Brrr Sharon on your weather this morning!

I need to call HAL this morning. I purchased the HIA pkg but the internet is not showing up. I used giftcards to pay for it but that shouldn't make a difference.

Sandi the picture of Elliott Rose is so sweet. I'm sending prayers and blessings to her and family.

Jacqui I hope all goes well with your SUV tomorrow. It seems like car repair always comes with a big $$ sign.

Graham I hope your doctor's appointment goes well. Creaky achy joints are no fun.

Good morning! One really knows their retired when they wake up not realizing it’s a holiday!😎 For our Canadian friends Happy Thanksgiving!🦃 Have been to Hilo and the Big Island several times and enjoyed the pics and stirring of memories. Thanks.

It’s a cool 54 degrees this morning and will get up to 81 and there is a chance of rain later this week.
Last night I committed gluttony as the lobster I ordered from Publix weighed in at 3.25 lbs! I ate the whole thing!

Thoughts and prayers for those that need them. Any of my problems are very mediocre compared to so many. Especially the people of South Florida and Ukraine.

Thanks for the Report and List. Have a nice day everyone.

Happy Monday Morning Dailyites!  Happy Thanksgiving to our Canadian Friends!

I've read the Harry Potter Series several times, and can't remember that line at all.  Maybe by the time that line shows up in the book, I am more sympathetic to Professor Snape.

I saw the rice dish being made on the cooking movie from Netflix, SALT.

I have arthritis in OMG my middle fingers on both hands.  When they lock up, typing becomes hard, and it looks like I am shooting everyone the bird.  In other words, I kind of stay home on the bad days.

There is a new documentary on Netflix, Inside the Mind of a Cat.  Turns out, they do love us.  Cat lovers should watch this one.

Fawn cat had a new friend who moved into the yard several months ago.  He would eat meat out of my hand,  he finally let me pet him last week, and then he disappeared on Friday.  He was injured and not well to begin with, but he had a bed here, and had come home every night until this weekend.  Fawn is now a lonely cat, and has been traveling back and forth from our yard, through the back 40 (total wilderness in the back yard) and over to the neighbors, but no Bubbles.  This morning she started eating canned food again, and wanted her breakfast by the door, not out in the driveway.  I guess she understands he is not coming back.  I will be amazed if we see him again.
