Now, I'm going to take you back in time -- one day.  I found the pictures Sandi @StLouisCruisers posted of Cape Horn and Drake Passage on December 19, 2021.  Again, my apologies for forgetting them yesterday.

Here's a photo from the 2015 Ruby Princess Cape Horn visit that @Quartzsite CruiserLenda mentioned.  There were some moments of fog dissipating.  2/26/201500-krGnVk_TmW1vjXOSXmrbNCgtIzRKIF36hrdhGheqtVJ7jJyM2mvKgH6kSI4fmS7k?cn=THISLIFE&res=medium&ts=1427215997

And two photos from the Seabourn Quest crossing of Drake Passage.  At first it was rough and windy and then I have photos 4-6 hours later of blue skies and calmer waters.  Early morning.  12/27/2016

Mid-afternoon, perfect!

My sweet (RIP) MIL kissed the Blarney Stone and swore she had the best luck she had in years. We never told her kissing the stone brought you the gift of gab..

We loved visiting the castle and the grounds and gardens are lovely.

No, we did not kiss the stone, but there was an old codger with a crooked staff offering a kiss from an Irishman as an alternative to kissing the stone. He had a little change purse attached to his belt, so..

Good morning all!

Happy Birthday Mr. Lincoln! If I ever lost a penny I didn't know it, and have never had plum pudding but it sounds good.  Will pass on the meal and expensive champagne (our bill at Total Wine yesterday was less than 1 bottle of this) 😉  The drink sounds very yummy but a big no-no for Diabetics.

No big plans for today, and not being a football fan, I won't be watching the game.  DH might watch some of it.  Since yesterday's plans changed, I'll be doing what I planned to do yesterday (finish painting and fold laundry). Not too exciting. 😄

We've been to Cobh twice, in 2014 on the Eurodam British Isles cruise,  and in 2019 on our 50th anniversary cruise on the Nieuw Statendam.  In 2014 we took the train to Cork and went to Blarney Castle.  In 2019 our Captain was Noel O'Driscoll. This is (near?) his home and the whole town came out to cheer the arrival of the ship!  On that visit we took the ferry out to Spike Island, or as our guide calls it, the "Irish Alcatraz".

Some photos of our visit to Spike Island, the "Irish Alcatraz"

It took me a while to find the pictures I posted on November 14, 2022.  I'd spent most of the day with DH at the rehab hospital.  I also discovered I didn't post any pictures on October 17, 2021, when we were between Texas and Quartzsite.

We have been to Cobh at least three times.  The first was in 2003 on Rotterdam VI.  We did a tour to Blarney Castle, where DH kissed the Blarney Stone, but I decided to skip the kiss.  I have enough Blarney without inviting more.  😉   Once back in Cobh, we took the local bus to Kinsale and then walked around Cork on the way back.  The next year, we were there on Noordam III and surprise, rented a car.  We drove to Kinsale and then to a golf course two business associates had played.  Our last visit was in 2016 on Prinsendam.  That day we rented a car and drove to Waterford and toured their glass making demonstration.  Then we drove to the Jameson's Distillery, where we toured the old distillery and the new modern one.

The Titanic museum is easy to spot

It is the old Whitestar terminal and the last stop Titanic made before it crossed the ocean.

There is some actual stuff from the Titanic and they do a recording of people that were on.  I thought it would be touristy and it was very good. And the passenger waiting to board.

this is the actual dock that people would board from.  In the case of the Titanic, passengers had to tender.  Titanic could have docked but the captain wanted to make record time and it was faster to tender the passengers than dock and do it in a civilized way.

By the way, the woollen shop that was so nice was nearly next to the Titanic museum.  We went shopping around figuring it was in a tourist spot and over priced.  Nope - best prices and the very best quality.

Good morning. Sunny today and high maybe in the mid-40's but snow, rain (read ice) and freezing temperatures are forecast for Monday - Thursday off and on. Hope I get out to the doctor before it all starts and maybe make a quick stop at the store for milk and a couple other items. And as for pennies... I need to roll some and take them to the bank. Maybe during Super Bowl I can do the rolling. I have no favorite in the game so will be watching it while doing other things in the vicinity of the TV. Will pay much closer attention to the Puppy Bowl.

Have been to Cobh on several land tours including my own driving tour around Ireland. Spent several days there and really enjoyed it and the surrounding area. Unfortunately, not likely to get to go back.

Off to do laundry and other exciting things. Also, need to make a list of things I want to discuss with my PCP tomorrow morning so I don't forget anything.

Take care all..... don't overdo. I think we all need to pay attention to our health this days. Pay attention to what your body tells you.

Susan

Susan, I hope the weather holds until you get home tomorrow after the doctor visit and shopping.

Katherine, it was the germs and the slime that made me skip kissing the Blarney Stone.

Hello everyone and thank you for the Daily.

We visited Cork on our 2010 British Isles Cruise. My DH already had the gift of gab and was afraid he'd lose it if he kissed the stone so he didn't!

Prayers for all those in need and Shout-outs to those celebrating!

I know many of us were horrified and heartbroken by the news of the devastation caused by the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria.  Yes, it was earthquakes not earthquake and aftershock.

Some of you have had the pleasure of seeing Naki Ataman perform on BHBs and other cruise lines.  He posted the following on his FB page 19 hours ago.  His post has some amazing information about the earthquakes and the recuse efforts.  It is with his permission that I'm reposting his words here.

Dear friends…as we reach the end of the rescue efforts of this devastating earthquake, I would like to give you some insight as to how bad this earthquake was and some related interesting but frightening information.
According to seismologist Professor Dr. Cenk Yaltırak, there were 2 distinct earthquakes that took place within a short period of 9 hours with over 7 force (7.6 & 7.7)…evidently this has not happened anywhere in the world before. The 2 distinct earthquakes happened in a distance of 30 Kilometers from one another and they took place only 7 Km below the earth. The closest to the earth surface the more devastating an earthquake becomes. Most earthquakes will shake between 30 to 40 seconds and that will cause a lot of damage. These 2 earthquakes shook for a total of 103 seconds, and this length is also a first. The total destruction zone is 464 Km (288 Miles) wide, in other words the distance from New York to Washington D.C. It devastated 10 cities.
In Türkiye alone, it was felt for 885 Km North to South and 1340 km West to East. The basic reason why this earthquake was so devastating is due to its closeness to the earth surface and how long it lasted. Evidently an earthquake with a force of 8 equals to an Atomic bomb of 60 megatons. In combination, these two earthquakes released about 120 megatons of force…currently the biggest payload of an Atomic warhead is 2 megatons…during WWII the Atomic bomb released on Nagasaki, Japan was 1.2 megatons. In other words, with these 2 earthquakes back to back, we have suffered an enormously big earthquake and devastation that has now been recorded in history.
Italy’s president of the National institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said: ‘’In 30-40 seconds Türkiye moved 3 meters towards the Arabian Peninsula’’.
The latests death count has surpassed 25.000 and the injured count is way over 85.000.
Amazingly 71 different countries sent rescue teams and they all did an incredible job of rescuing babies, children, elderly citizens and even pets…rescuing pets also warmed my heart…there were many miracles that took place. All rescue teams, domestic and foreign, used specially trained dogs in their rescue efforts…dogs are amazing and also deserve our gratitude.
All in all, this is a great tragedy and along with all the other people, I also pray this doesn’t happen again here or in any other part of the world. Thank you, thank you and thank you for all your loving messages and to all the nations that came to the rescue ❤️…it’s too bad it takes such disasters to bring nations and people together. No matter what country we come from, we are all human beings ❤️...there's no need for wars and hatred...we need humanity and love ❤
I love you all for your concern and loving messages ❤

Good morning everyone and Happy Sunday. I woke really early and couldn’t get back to sleep so read the Daily and just now caught up on pages 3 & 4. I used to have some coins that I thought were rare or old but they were stolen back in 1989 when our house was broken into. One was a Wheat penny. I don’t know but that might have been the same kind Vanessa @JazzyV lost. I also had a Buffalo nickel and some kind of old dime. I didn’t collect them they just somehow showed up as change. Happy Birthday Mr Lincoln!

Friday after dropping DM off and I was on my way home I heard that there was an accident at the intersection of our street. I really thought they had to be wrong because it’s just a entrance into our neighborhood. All the accidents that happen near here are at the major intersection where the stop lights are.  As I pulled up there was a large fire truck and two police cars and lots of commotion. An SUV had jumped the curb and a retaining wall and had hit the back brick fence of the first house and a tree, landing in a small ditch. Later when I watched the tow truck pull it out it looked totaled. I’m glad we don’t live in those houses that back up to the very busy major street. We are 7 houses in. Craig said the tree and fence are damaged. No one was hurt, I saw the driver walk away after the tow truck arrived.

I am going to make Debbie’s @dfish chicken wings today but I’m using taco seasoning. It’s a really good recipe. Thanks Debbie!  We’ll watch the commercials today.

Have a great day everyone!

Thank you for the report on the devastating earthquake. It is hard to fathom the level of destruction and death from this event. When I read about these things and Ukraine I thank heavens for the luck of the draw so to speak. We are all so fortunate.

Graham I appreciated your pictures of where Vera is filmed. I have read all of the books of that series as well as the other ones.  I see that the newest ones are now becoming available here on Brit Box and plan to watch them. Shetland is also one of my favorites. We are going there on our cruise this summer and I am looking forward to seeing the area. We tried to book a private tour but all the guides have already been booked. We were surprised at this since I tried booking in December and thought that was well enough in advance.

My back is not doing well today, so I am not sure what the prognosis will be. I was hoping the epidural steroid shot would work but it doesn't seem to be helping anymore.

My son can be taken off the lists. He goes home (we hope) from the hospital tomorrow with a port so he can get IV antibiotics at home.  His liver abscess is drained but they are concerned that it moved to his lungs so he has a month to 2 month course of antibiotics.  We are all praying that this will work because the next step if it doesn't is very concerning.  He is getting married this June and he wants to be well to enjoy this very special day.

Sharon - just wow about the accident you described. I wonder if it was a drunk or drug impaired driver. Glad your home is fine.

We have never been to Ireland though my step niece now lives there with her husband so hopefully one day we will get to visit.

I hope everyone enjoys the day and that the super bowl commercials live up to their hype.

Thank  you for posting this, Lenda.  In our own way, we have come together as the author writes in the section with the hearts.  The Daily is that kind of community.  Now, we need to spread that beyond the Daily and out into our communities.  Any suggestions on how we do that?  More humanity and heart is the #1 need.   I think that is why the Daily has continued so long.  It is one place on CC where we can find humanity and heart.  We are all in this together.

Once again I give thanks for the little community we have here.

Ah the penny.  Glad we got rid of ours, now if only we could make a lighter $1 and $2 coin.  I fear after a day of shopping my pants are going to fall down.

Still exhausted from last week at work, should be all rested up by tomorrow to do it again. Speaking of accidents, last Wednesday my work day started with coming across a motorcycle vs truck.  At the same time half a block away there were multiple overdoses happening.

Have not been to Ireland but my son was in Cork and always talks about his wonderful time playing American Football there.  He was taken back by how the teams would show up at there hotel after the game and take them out on the town.

Deep into Superbowl pregame now.  Have a great day everyone, and Go Chiefs.

Happy Super Bowl Sunday!  Whether you root for a team or the commercials, or just enjoy a day of friends, family and food, it’s a great escape of the woes of the world for most of us.

Blessings to all in pain, in need of healing, comfort or hope;  Protections for all the rescuers; smooth travels for those away from home…. And cheers for all celebrating moving forward through challenges to milestones!

Love all the pictures!  Some bring grand memories, like Cape Horn (doubt I’ll be there again) and some bring new dreams to light, like Ireland!  My grandmother was from Cashel, I never knew her. DH says we’ll get there!  Mostly I’m just so grateful we’re here, wherever we are!

Had group phone call with the family, working on details for gathering in less than 2 weeks for Rotterdam cruise…. still hoping the passport arrives!  But the universe will not end if it doesn’t and all will be well.

I recently gave away my penny collection, including its 1909 VDB!  I began it in 3rd grade!  Passed it and all my other coins along to family after we moved. Feels good to move things forward.

Happy birthday to President Lincoln!  Thank you!  We’ve been up to Gettysburg a couple of times since we moved east. Very impressive and oh so sad. Our nation still suffers but we have made progress. My Irish grandmother was a Kennedy, and now my name is Lincoln!  Both presidents murdered. Humbling.

Snacks for game time are chips and homemade salsa, guacamole, chile con queso, cheese and crackers. House pizza and salad for main course. Plus, as Gerry @ger_77 would say, “And wine.”  Love champagne, we always had a bottle in the frig, just in case!  I would like to taste an expensive one sometime just to see it’s so much better 🤣.

Having been on many 911 calls for car accidents, I can say that impaired driving is a common cause, but so are medical events. People can temporarily “black out” from many causes. Great to hear no injuries!  Always scary!

Blessings to all, no matter the weather or the situation, Today is a good day to be happy!  Stay safe, stay well!  M—

It actually crossed my mind that it could have been caused by texting which is what my next door neighbors thought also. It was just such a weird spot for it to happen.

Debbie, I’m actually “speed” cooking them this time because I decided to make them so late, we eat our main meal at 2ish, so I only have about 3 hours total.  I hope they come out as well. BTW, I’m trying your suggestion of adding some bourbon during the first step. I’ll let you know how they come out.

Sending prayers 🙏 for your back to improve and your son to recover from his liver abscess.

Best wishes.

Graham.

I recently gave away my penny collection, including its 1909 VDB!  I began it in 3rd grade!  Passed it and all my other coins along to family after we moved. Feels good to move things forward.

Blessings to all, no matter the weather or the situation, Today is a good day to be happy!  Stay safe, stay well!  M—

I think I started my penny collection about 3rd grade as well. In 5th grade I "sold" the 1909 VDB to my gym teacher for $5, and my Mother made him give it back to me! She thought he took unfair advantage, I guess.

I'm sorry your back is not doing well.  I'd hoped the epidural steroid shot would help.  That is good news that your DS is scheduled to go home tomorrow.  I hope the antibiotics clear up the remaining infection.

Thank you, Debbie.  I agree totally about the Daily and how this community has nurtured and supported all of us.  I wish we could spread this feeling to others.  Sadly, I see too much meanness and hatred not only on other threads, but on FB and even in the news.  It will take a world wide attitude change for many to realize as Naki wrote, that we are all humans.  No matter the cultural, skin or religious differences in the world, we all have the same needs, hopes and desires.  Now, I better get off my soapbox before I say something I shouldn't.

Vanessa, good for you mother. The teacher probably did take advantage of you.  Five dollars seems like a lot of money to young kids.
