There's more onboard security personnel and the introduction of more drug sniffing dogs in terminals, according to several reports here and elsewhere.

Let us see if the onboard security personnel are really empowered to handle problems. Will passengers be kicked off the ships for the most serious offenses?

Yep, anywhere that I have to smell the stench.  Other offensive odors (BO in the casino) are not prohibited in my cruise contract.  I have no reasonable expectation to be free of it.  And, yes, there is a lot you can do about it.  Seems like every time I'm in Chicago or Seattle, I'm down to customer service over some rude, inconsiderate jackhole stinking up my room (and, yes, it comes through very strongly).  Hope they enjoy their $250 puff because I'm making sure they pay it.  People who smoke weed where they're not supposed to think nothing of the other people around them who don't want to smell it.  Selfish and rude.

Tell us how you really feel....LOL

Fixed it for you

Has there been action on yet, or is it just words so far?

I guess we would have to ask her.  I can tell you this, on our last cruise on the Celebration, there were law enforcement walking with drug sniffing dogs through the terminal outside as well pre cruise.  Sounds like a solid start to me.  There is zero doubt of the need.

I sense you have serious doubts, way before this started I have seen people put ashore mid cruise.  The times of the entitlement mentality appears to be on radar, good for Carnival.

Wow, I have never witnessed people put ashore mid cruise knowing that they had done a transgression worthy of that.  Did you know what transpired or just happen to see people leaving with their luggage? TIA!

Well, I certainly did not go looking for it.  One was a neighbor who was let’s say unhappy with the Carnival experience.  The other we witnessed happen and saw them escorted off the next morning with their bags.

The couple next to my cabin  were removed after a loud screaming match and something/someone bounced off the wall.  The guy was removed for the night. Security took them and their luggage off once we got to port.  They were taken off before guests were allowed off, port officials met them and the whole group moved out of my sight. Having a balcony paid off that trip.

I hope and pray that Carnival enforces unruly behavior! Amazing how people react to their drinking habits. 15 drinks per day is way too much.

Well, YMMV.  Maybe for you it is too much.  My wife and I handle it just fine, thank you very much.

Unruly behavior might be accelerated by excessive alcohol usage, but usually it is there lurking under the surface at all times, looking for an excuse.

I am planning to test the security response. During March Madness I am going into the sports bar and ask that the TV be put on "The View."

Seriously though, I have often seen people put off the ship. I have sympathy for innocent family members, but would be delighted to see the perpatrators taken off in shackles.

I have seen the pooch's working the line outside the terminal. They are not all drug sniffing dogs. Some are for bombs, and lastly bed bug sniffers. Who knew dogs were "specialists?"

Based on my experiences, I would be more surprised that the sports bars were showing March Madness games instead of The View. 😄

I find that "the view" has any audience at all a disturbing harbinger for the devolution of humanity. It extends far beyond a mere lack of critical thinking ability and instead rises to the level of pathological and willful ignorance.

On our broader issue here, I just want to know that with the dollars I shell out that I can have some reasonable assurances that jackasses won't gain a foothold to the point that it could potentially ruin our vacation or in a worst case even potentially endanger a family member. If people don't know how to behave in public or mommy did not hold them enough as a child? Sorry, but that is their problem. Carnival needs to have standards in place and those standards need to be enforced, and egregious violations should result in potentially being removed from the ship and/or never being allowed to return to another Carnival cruise. Carnival might be worried about their bottom line here, but I can assure you the consequences of inaction may well be far worse in terms of long term revenue projections.

Thank you for providing examples that this new policy is more than just words.

true enough on the dogs.  Our daughter had just occupied a suite in Disney (Bay Lake Tower) and left stuff and went in the park and got a call 2 hours later and was told a dog alerted on their door and the door next to them.  Long story short, they were moved to another room, significant compensation for clothes and aggravation and had all their clothes cleaned by Disney.  First rate handling.

@Carnival Cheerleader  Relax. It was just a descriptive term.  Picture the dudes from the movie "Grumpy Old Men" or "Statler and Waldorf"" from the Muppets and you have the men in my experiences. I guess I could have said: "The trouble-makers were old enough to know better."  Or "They were in the AARP crowd." (I am in AARP so that isn't an insult.) My point was that they weren't a bunch of drunken college kids or former frat boys at a bachelor party.

We have been on many cruises with various mass market lines as well as many land vacation in many countries.  I have yet to experience anything I would consider discrimination against Americans.  So, I'm curious.  I can see out being in a different cultural environment might be uncomfortable if the expectation is things will be like they are at home.   Otherwise, scratching my head on this one.

You are lucky.  It was horrendous.  🙂

Yes, roughly 1100 miles of shoreline, and the lake itself is around 55K acres all told. Though It's a reservoir technically and not a lake, and It's especially popular with the boating crowd on account of its massive size and depth.

Curious what lakes is that?
