There are cutouts in some rows in the theater intended to accommodate those who are confined to a mobility device, and there some with armrests that swing up to accommodate those who are able to transfer from a mobility device to a theater seat.  I don't understand why you feel entitled to take one of those seats away from people with mobility impairments.

One must remember that although a patient is not using a mobility device, due to a variety of problems such as chronic hip disease they may still have difficulty getting up and sitting down....hence they might need the extra room that some of those areas provide.

I like to hang out at the Lotus Spa pool where there are 12 padded loungers.  I observe that folks will often get up and obviously leave the area but leave towels behind hence my thumb rule that towel(s) alone do not indicate a chair is in use and is up for grabs.

That's where one of the seats with the swinging armrest could be used for.  Generally if the impairment is that serious it would be fairly obvious and they probably also have a cane (or walker.) Know the situation well, but so far, I've gotten away without the cane.

I cruise a lot out of San Francisco, it happens on every cruise.that I've been on out of SF.  When? Generally after they finish their meal but sometimes in the middle of the afternoon as well.  It is a convenient venue, since they have easy access to hot water and tea.  I've never seen anyone shutting down a game.

I would make a report to Guest Services and to the available officers onsite if they did take all the seats.

Yes, some individuals have to be told or instructed how to be courteous to others.

Amen.  I am telling you right now this post is long enough.  😖

One reason we're done cruising out of SF.    Basic human courtesy lacking on our last cruise from there.

As for two people who take a six person table in the buffet when there are no tables available, I just smile warmly and sit down.

I've encountered that on cruises out of other ports as well, seems more prevalent on the lower priced cruises though.

Once you sit down there are 2 empty spaces left at the 6 person table.  If you see anyone wandering around looking for a table invite the 2 newcomers to sit down w you.  If you see 2 people at the buffet not eating but playing cards or something like that use the same "the more the merrier" approach.

I went with hilarious, but if I ever had any interest in lying in the sun, I'd probably think otherwise.

A couple weeks ago I was on Sky Princess. I did laugh that there were already towels with clips on chairs before sunrise!

One afternoon in the buffet, a woman walked up to a table next to mine with a family at it and announced that she left her hat and book on that table. It looked like the family had been there a while, as they had beverages and plates of food that were mostly consumed. The man said "There wasn't anything here when we sat down." She became very flustered and just muttered how she had left her stuff there. The man suggested she ask the waiters what happened to her stuff. The woman wasn't carrying a plate or anything, so it wasn't like she had put her stuff down to go get a plate. I thought that was hilarious too.

I’m hoping you’re being witty and including us in your joke.  Nobody would ever do such an obviously selfish thing, since there is a card/games room on every ship for just that purpose.

Actually, very few of the ships have a dedicated card/games room.  Mostly you have to use other venues such as a DR in off-meal hours, or the CG, or some similar location.  The Horizon Court or World Fresh Market becomes popular as well.  The ships that have a library are mostly not suited for game playing in that room.

The best ships for a dedicated games area are the Coral and Island.

Thank you for correcting me.  I was totally thinking of another cruiseline we sail on that does have card rooms and or libraries on all ships and my senior brain mixed them up.  Too bad that Princess doesn’t provide one on all of their ships.  Correction noted.

I encountered a chair hog in the Enclave who left her romance novel on one of the highly coveted heated lounge chairs.  Like, you cant reserve one of the heated loungers with word porn.  There are only two on the entire flippin ship and you think typed out throbbing desire is going to keep me from laying down for a nap?!

The lady came back and saw me in 'her space' and threw a fit in the most relaxing place on the sea which totally killed the vibe but it was worth it because, you know, I had a nap.

Isn't the real issue the lack of available chairs or loungers? Where are the chair hogger defenders? Like with limited availability one must take extraordinary measures.

In most cases there are a fair number of empty lounges throughout the ship.  However, in many cases the "Chair Hoggers" want to get the lounges closest to the pool or well shaded, and they usually are taken fairly quickly.

What we have done in the past is find a relatively secluded area with good shape and use two chairs.  When we go for lunch, we take all our belongs and have a leisurely lunch either at the buffet or dining room.  If we decide to stay outdoors, we locate another two chairs.

I have not as yet paid for the Sanctuary Area, although we did have a cabanna at the Breakers in Florida in the past.

Personally, I've never understood the allure of the Melanoma Deck with the over-amplified music from a DJ or MUTS. But the more people that crowd in there leaves more quiet, shady spots for me.

Chair hoggng seems to affect those areas as well. You might as well join the crowd and reserve yourself one.

I don’t think so. There are plenty of loungers on the ship. The issue is location. The locations that are perceived to be more valuable are the ones where we see chair hogging. I can show you areas on the Grand Class ships that are back by the smokestacks where there is a lot of fan and machinery noise that always have loungers available. Unusually, one side of the ship is in the sun ans the other in the shade. Plug in noise cancelling earbuds and they’re perfect.

Is a pool towel OK to use to save seats in the theater, the buffet, and Vines?

Asking for a friend?

Now that I haven seen yet.

My husband is always saves my seat for me in the theater and sometimes lays my travel water bottle bag across the seat until I arrive. We've never had a problem saving at least that one seat.

Not a problem at the buffet even with no one at the table.

I have seen people play cards in buffet during buffet close-down time, but rare.  It is exaggerated to say seeing mahjong table setup during peak eating time that is so noisy and distracting.  How possible is that?  I don't believe until I see it.

SiliconCruiser did not say the time when it occurred.  I'll take with a grain of salt.

Any officers in the buffet area would have shut it down.

Haven't noticed it so much on Princess but there were numerous card players in the buffet at meal times on Carnival Miracle in January (14 day to Hawaii).

Our 1st Carnival cruise & actually loved it--crew was outstanding. Trivia 8-10x/day (NOT exaggerating!) and 3 different comedy shows EVERY NIGHT.

Honestly, that cruise compared to Princess. I was shocked. Doubt a 7 day would, but a smaller Carnival ship for a longer cruise may be the ticket.

I've said it before & will say it again. If a seat is vacant for an hour, we'll move right in & remove the belongings & hand them to pool staff. No one is entitled to leave their stuff & take off for lunch or whatever else for an hour(or frequently more) and expect to plop right back down. Had VERY few issues. I just tell them you can't hog the seats & then tell them to get lost or I'll get security. Sounds nasty, but stand your ground or be trod upon. It's your choice. My spouse is the one on the right in our Icon. He handles it & I enjoy the show.
