Last night the “vaping allowed” stand alone signs and placards were gone!  Additionally, not a single vaper in sight.
The plot thickens…

Is there anything relevant to this in the Daily, or in the Cruise Director's or Captain's announcement?

We received this exact form letter from Celebrity yesterday, but with the addition of their desire to set up a phone call with us.  We were asked to provide a date and time that worked for us.  So, we will see what they say!  I'll report back, but I'm sure it will be the same as others have reported, that it's a test, blah blah blah.

Answer from the Executive Office:

Thank you for taking the time to contact the Executive Offices at Celebrity Cruises.

This test is currently in place on the Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse, and at this time there has been minimal to no impact to our guests experience onboard.  Vaping will only be allowed in certain areas of the casino for casino guests, during operating hours only. Cigarette, pipes and cigars will still be prohibited in the casino.

Dr. Poggel, we truly appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding our recent change.

Sincerely,
Aurora Godfrey
Executive Office
Celebrity Cruises

About the vape issue. It is worse than smoking in my opinion. The issue I have is the accidents that have happened with vape devices. How many times has one started to burn. In a bag, pocket. They have batteries. More chances of it being left unattended in a cabin and starting a fire. That's a bigger fear fire at sea. We were very loyal to royal, but smoking especially in the casino was crazy. Celebrity drew us and other friends because of the no smoking. I  believe the non smokers out number the smokers. If I ever smell smoke start coming out of cabins and nothing is done to stop it. We may be done with cruising. I hope Celebrity is rethinking this  policy.

Seriously!   What guest feedback ... I've never been asked have you?  I just sailed in April on a Blue Chip free cruise, sailing this November on a discounted cruise, scheduled (almost to be cancelled) on a free stateroom cruise next spring.  One would think opinion from those who spend time (and money) in the casino would matter even if not the highest roller.

I would have believed the part about people wanting to be able to vape (just like many would like to smoke cigarettes) but the response went to stupid by adding the feedback from guests who do not vape ... come on.

Off to work on my feedback on dinner in the buffet and option to wear shorts to dinner in the MDR 🙂

.

Don’t be ridiculous.  You can only wear shorts in the MDR while you’re vaping.  🙄

Please don’t just give up.  Call Guest Services and/or Security.  And tell them what you told us.

Thanks ... I actually did send an email to the executive email last evening, no response yet but I'm telepathically 🔮  guessing what it might say if/when it arrives 😉

Still have my cruise in November but I can envision this going in many directions with none of them being a total pull back of the idea.  They could decide to 'implement' this on select ships much like Holland does where select (not the newest) ships are non-smoking in the casinos.  Holland could be my leap if I don't look venture away from cruising entirely.

I emailed the other day myself with concerns..maybe they will listen.

FYI they sent me the same response others have posted here.

I believe they listen to their numbers, not passengers.

Ignore some of my prior 'response' to this as I crossed two posts and realize this was not for me ... LOL.  Can't delete or edit ... carrying on now 🤪

We've been deliberately trying lots of different cruise lines in order to settle down to 1 or 2 favorites when I retire. One significant plus that Celebrity and Virgin shared was no smoking in the casino. We really dislike smoking in casinos, and while we can deal with it (by having our 'casino outfits' that absorb all the smell and limit that to one set of clothes) we really appreciate when we can relax in a smoke-free casino.

If Celebrity makes this change fleetwide then that takes one significant plus from them and leaves it on the Virgin side alone. It's not in the 'deal breaker' category for us, but definitely a factor.

I received the same standard reply. “Test is currently in place on equinox & eclipse through august 20 and at this time there has been minimal to no impact to our guests experience onboard. Vaping will only be allowed in certain areas for casino guests during operating hours only.”
Well, gee, that’s when I want to use the casino! But I won’t while vaping is permitted.
And, I tend to give a lot of money to the casino when I’m in there!

I emailed last night and received a reply this afternoon.  Interesting that the line about no ''negative impact" was missing from the reply I received.

Perhaps enough negative feedback is being received that even they know they can't continue to claim that.

Still hoping......and still glad I only have one cruise booked in three weeks on the Summit.  I won't book more until this issue is settled.

OMG to say I am beyond disappointed with Celebrity is an understatement!  I can't believe they are even testing this out.  If anyone has any remaining doubts that this is the continued Royalization of Celebrity this has to seal the deal.  This is a horrible idea.

Truth..... just one more "little" thing after another after another and another....... Celebrity WANTS a different cruiser and they're going to get it.

From everything I read the highest percentage (by far) of people who vape are in the 18-24 demographic.  About 1/2 of that demographic can't drink on Celebrity.

Don’t worry.  Celebrity can fix that last problem.  Or at least they will try.

And the other half refuse to work so they have no money for cruising anyway.

Celebrity seems to be refining their standard response.  Here’s what I just received.

——-

Thank you so much for this valuable feedback. We really appreciate you taking the time to contact the Executive Offices at Celebrity Cruises.

This test is currently taking place in the casinos on the Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse through August 20th. It is a test at this point, and all feedback is being taking into consideration, so again, thank you.

As a brand we will continue to keep our guests as the main focus, and you taking the time to reach out is truly beneficial and appreciated. Again, thank you so much for the feedback provided regarding our recent change.

This is the exact email I got this afternoon in response to my email.  I agree...they are refining their response.  Hopefully because they have to based on all our (and everyone's) feedback.

This was the thrust of my husbands email to Celebrity, not just about the vaping but small changes here and there that will drive guests away. So far, no response. Probably because they cannot just cut and paste a reply.

When I spoke to them I was told our September 2nd crise would be impacted by the test. Hopefully things are starting to turn back to normal, no smoking/vaping in any indoor venue.
