But now that it’s a confirmed revenue endeavor, I’ve decided I’ll vote with my purse and find other means of entertainment for a while. My casino play money is small enough that they likely won’t even notice but if everyone votes with their wallets…

Rare WrittenOnYourHeart Posted July 4, 2023 #31 Share Posted July 4, 2023 I may not play in the casino, but it may well cost them future cruises from me. I'd planned on booking a cruise while onboard my upcoming Summit cruise - an actual date to avoid extra work for my TA converting it. Now I'm thinking if I book anything it'll be the Book Later thing so I can see how the vaping thing plays out and if it becomes policy to allow it, I can just not book anything and get the deposit back. I mean, I know I'm just one solo cruiser who does ocean view, basic veranda, or solo IV - and who doesn't go near the casino - but..

A BC cruise is given to people hoping they will gamble enough to make it a profitable promotion. Letting them know you won't be in the casino any more after experiencing the vaping could have more of an impact than all the emails sent by those of us not on board. 6

On X currently, to receive a future free cruise offer, it’s all based on your current sailing’s play. Generally speaking, you determine the max you’re will to lose and hope that’s enough to obtain a future free sailing. There are so many variables such as how long your sailing is, what kind of stateroom you’re willing to sail in (is an inside okay? Suite only?) and how you’re rated (slots are fixed while table games vary by game and also if the pit-bosses are rating you correctly). Finally you have BCC’s free room’s qualifications which seems to change every few months

All of the other mainstream cruise lines allow smoking to a certain extent indoors. I believe Virgin Voyages' only indoor space is a completely enclosed section of the casino which probably comes the closes to Celebrity's policy. So without stepping up to the next level of cruise lines (which likely isn't realistic for anyone not regularly sailing in Aqua class or the Retreat), you don't have a lot of options. So I suspect the final policy will come down to what casino players cruising Celebrity are willing to put up with.

They're not doing this bait and switch with zero notice. Disney does not allow smoking or vaping inside in any venue - and I don't see that changing any time soon. Yes they're more expensive, but I have always had good experiences with them. I'd thought Celebrity might replace them for more cruises, but not with their current policy of changing things on a moment's notice with no opportunity to make your own change.

Completely understand and am not trying to get anyone to gamble, simply sharing most who gamble on a ship factor in the free cruise into their gambling equation Beyond a few cigars per year (I don’t smoke them at casinos nor do I inhale) I do not smoke/vape and do believe allowing vapes will result in increased revenue. There’s just something about going “full throttle” with heavy gambling, heavy drinking and (unfortunately) heavy smoking that go hand in hand

But that doesn't mean it is going to have that big of an affect on bookings, especially when there are a lot of other options. I wasn't trying to dismiss what Celebrity is doing. I'm just pointing out that the financial aspect really relates to whether or not people will gamble. And so those of us that don't spend time in the casino (I count myself in that group) are likely not the customers Celebrity will truly listen to. They are going to follow the money. 7 minutes ago, WrittenOnYourHeart said: Disney does not allow smoking or vaping inside in any venue - and I don't see that changing any time soon. phoenix_dream Posted July 4, 2023 #41 Share Posted July 4, 2023 I believe it is about revenue, but not in the way it's being talked about here necessarily. I think it is about bringing in younger people, whose vise of choice appears to be vaping. It tracks with other changes they are making like 3 and 4 day cruises, visits to an island amusement park, etc.. If they really wanted more casino revenue, maybe it would be nice if they surveyed the people who like to gamble. Personally, I really hate the new video machines designed to also bring in the younger crowd. I do gamble onboard (or at least I did) but I find fewer and fewer machines I like, or can afford. Their big video machines usually have minimums of 60-75 cents a pull. Give me 25 cents a pull and I'll gamble more, and ultimately give them more revenue but I'll enjoy it more. Whether they like it or not, on S and M class ships in particular their demographic still leans older, and many of us want to enjoy a different type of gambling experience. I’ve spent many nights in Vegas casino resorts, I rarely see anyone smoke anything. I cannot imagine allowing vapes would lower the average age by a noticeable amount. There are far better ways to attract the younger crowd and even when they do attract them, they’d want to keep them coming back which I believe X is unable to do based on my personal experience as a younger cruiser. The X product is simply not geared towards the younger generation as the silent disco, live music being 50-70 years old at times, throttled internet (other cruise lines with starlink do not throttle as much as X) and questionable food quality may prevent them from sailing X again. Most youngings want to be part of fun experiences, take “cool” videos/photos to share on social media and great food

Remember what it was like to walk by the casino toward the shops or the theater when smoking was still allowed in the casino? It was nasty, and anyone who thinks vaping has no emissions is deluded. I've had to walk away from my nephews when they were vaping outside because their flavored vapes caused me to have a coughing fit! 4

gold1953 Posted July 4, 2023 #45 Share Posted July 4, 2023 and how will Celebrity police this new rule??? Like they police other rules.. smoking on balconies. chair hogs , diapers in pool??? Many table players had ashtrays with butts next to them. Couldn't even get close to BJ table without hating the smoke. I expect vaping if it goes fleet-wide will be more tolerable but still annoying. miched Posted July 4, 2023 #49 Share Posted July 4, 2023 Give them an inch and they will take a mile. It will migrate into other areas and the staff won’t don’t anything. If that is the future with X then I am done after the cruises I have booked. Will look at the real premium lines and spend my money there if they have a better no smoking policy. If not my cruising days are done. I don’t need to spend my money to be subjected to air that affects me. GOODBYE Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

We got to know many BTs so personal that we were invited and attended parties, dinners and etc. some even came and visited us in MI. We no longer desire to go there.
