What do you ladies put in laundry bag?

Recommended Posts

Anything that I wouldn’t mind washing in industrial strength detergent in hot water, and drying in high heat.

As a side note, my wife sent out a brand new green top, and when we got it back, it was gray and shriveled. It looked like it had been washed 20 times. We asked at guest relations if they could do anything to fix it and, the next day, they returned it looking brand new. I guess they dyed it and pressed it. Long story short, if you send something out and they mess it up, don’t be shy about letting them know. They’ll try to rectify it.

I’ve sent out my cotton nightgown, socks, undies, jeans, workout shorts, cotton capris, and cotton pants.  I don’t send out nice t-shirts due to fear of them shrinking in the hot water and hot dryer.   I think bras and bathing suits are too delicate for the industrial treatment and are easily washed out by hand.  The cotton pants and capris came back nicely folded but quite wrinkled.  I used the iron in the public laundry room to make them presentable.

I have also used the public laundry rooms, but, in my experience, they are often busy unless you are willing to do your laundry very early in the morning or very late at night or during a port day.

People on these boards have said they have written special instructions such as “cold water” or “delicate cycle” or  “low dryer heat”, but I am not at all sure those instructions are followed.  I only send out what I feel won’t be damaged by super hot water and super hot drying.

I usually do my own in self laundry on a port day, normally the only one in there.

Thanks for all your input. Guess I will pack cotton pjs , socks, and undies. No delicate stuff. I am platinum on Carnival but haven’t sailed with them for quite awhile because my guy no longer wants to fly or go through the hassle of cruising, so Norwegian has been my standby. But the elimination of their best entertainment and my frustration about a lot of things that have declined on NCL has made me try Carnival again. Yes, a bit more expensive because Carnival doesn’t give any breaks to solos, but giving Carnival a try. Any help from Carnival folks helps me to make the best of my upcoming cruise

Those instructions are not followed even when room attendants agree.

Right, it's important to realize that the stewards are not the ones actually doing the laundry.

Your laundry is put in a mesh bag and several mesh bags are washed and dried at once in large washers below deck by crew who do laundry all contract long and probably are not even allowed on guest decks.

Health code alone prevents it since clothes can contain "biological waste"  🤢

Anything I'd dry in my tumble drier at home, I send to the Laundry on Carnival. I'm at that stage of life where all my britches are cotton anyhow, so no harm, no foul.

Basically I send everything but Hawaiian shirts and some of my dresses.  I try not to throw swimsuits in there, but have forgotten a couple times and they were fine.

We once did a 7 day from Galveston with nothing but a carry-on each since we had to fly down.

This is what I fear and why I’ve never sent laundry out. I’m glad they fixed it. 🙂

We'll be flying to the port this cruise,  so I will be downsizing my packing.   So I will be trying the laundry service.  Lots of good info here.  I won't have to pack two sets of traveling clothes.  I hate wearing shorts on a plane.

We travel worldwide for weeks on end with a carry-on plus backpack each. We are always sensitive to the clothing we bring making sure it's appropriately 'weathered'. Still, there are items we will hand wash in the sink. We typically send out a modest bag of laundry every 2-3 days. In what probably now approaches 100 total laundry bags on Carnival, we've probably had 2-3 items that were slightly impacted but it is worth noting that general fading does occur over time. I've noticed a few polos that I often take where after a half dozen trips through the ship's laundry it is somewhat noticeable when compared against brand new. We take the approach that clothes do wear out over time and industrial washers are hard on them. We're blessed to be able to travel and that's a small price to pay.

Oh, and I must strenuously object to the thread title!!!! I'm a guy and am routinely responsible for our laundry onboard. (Just pullin' your chain OP. 😁) Sail on.

Going on the Venezia in November for 20 days!!  No launderettes on this ship.  I am platinum but afraid to send my laundry out.  At home I wash everything in cold water so I'm afraid they will shrink my clothes.  For those that send out laundry, do you normally wash at home in hot water?  I'm ok with sending out underwear and socks but not shirts or pants.

My DH sends out t shirts and walking shorts.  He has been happy with the results but I don't send mine out in case of shrinkage/damage.  If I get a mark on my clothes I try a damp white face cloth with hand soap to spot treat it and let it dry. Workout clothes could be sent to laundry since it's all spandex and could stretch over my ever expanding body😉

I don't wear or bring anything on a Carnival cruise that I'll miss if it goes overboard or if it gets faded in the washer...each to their own. I mostly use the laundry service because I hate the way my clothes smell like smoke from being in/walking past the casino.
