Carnival ridiculous overpriced merchanise

On the mardi gras boat, saw some Guess and Luis Vuitton (used) items. The gues bag was "on sale" from $238 to $119. Found it online front guess for $65. Same thing with their billabong items. This dress was $65 but priced as $30 online. Such a scam. The used luis vutton wallet they quoted 690 used. But I can find it online for 550 in excellent condition used.

Yeah.  I learned the hard way.

Last cruise I bought $200 worth of Gucci perfume only to discover I should have bought it at home.

The only things which I have found are lovely dresses which I didn’t have buyer’s remorse after buying.

I have several Guess purses, a couple of which were bought on cruises. I bought one because it knew that pattern was sold out everywhere else. Still sold out now almost 2 years later. The other one because the price was equal to online. The key is to wait for the sale. The Guess bags almost always go 50% off at some point during the cruise, which make it worth it. As for the LV bags, that's not specifically Carnival. Resell high end bags are subject to whatever the reseller wants to sell it for. Unless you know what the retail price of the item was for originally,  YMMV on a resell price. I worked at a department store that tried selling high end resell bags at one point and their price was maybe $50-$100 cheaper than the original on 5-10 year old bags. And they sold well!

Then don't buy it. Don't get the complaints, it's a gift shop on a cruise ship of all places. Smh.

this is cruise critic. What should we discuss here in your opinion?

seems to me like if they jacked up prices a little bit that would be something but as much as 2x? I know it's a captive audience, blah blah but they'd probably move a bit more product if prices were closer to what they are on land. I know they gotta make money where they can, but I guess you gotta wonder if the point of the shops is to provide cruisers with a fun shopping experience  or make the most money possible? Yes. But there's a point where there's not a good roi. I think i remember learning this on those graphs in 7th grade, given the right equation.

but, like other things it must be working or they wouldn't do what they're doing. Like anything else, speak with your wallet.   Same like Disney world, etc.

They sell plenty of it to folks who don't know any better or who want to treat themselves on vacation. Etc.

I always wondered why Guess was such a big deal on the ship.  I work for a major department store and Guess handbags are not considered high end.  They are kept in a different area from Michael Kors, Coach, Kate Spade, etc.

Probably the best brand that will agree to have their merchandise carried on the ships.

Talk about price gouging, my DW needed cough drops at the airport in Reykjavik. I finally found them and bought them charging in the local currency. When I got my cc bill, they were over $6 American money.😒  And they were not even individually wrapped and were all stuck together.

I'm sure people discuss things like that on airport critic if such a site exists.

Guess is considered the "costume jewelry" of the handbag world.

That would be MMK not Guess. Guess has been around for decades and while not high end its not bottom of the barrel. Maybe no one buys it where you work but plenty are sold other places.

No different than toiletries or OTC meds or feminine products in a cruise shift gift shop.

It isn't Carnival's job to educate people as to what is a good deal or not. Caveat Emptor. It is the responsibility of the consumer to perform due diligence. Cruise line casinos are especially good at gouging.

I think the shops are run by third party vendors, and yes, the purpose is to make as much of a profit as possible. On land I don’t shop at hotel gift shops looking for bargains.
