cruisinsince75 Posted September 23 #1 Share Posted September 23 How many oz? Is it the same for champagne? TIA
Rare BamaVol Posted September 23 #2 Share Posted September 23 I’ve never seen it measured. I would estimate 5-6 ounces.
reedprincess Posted September 23 #3 Share Posted September 23 Approx 5 oz. They don't measure via a bottle or jigger or like on the glass, it's eyeballed - but it's approximately 5 ounces, standard pour.
VibeGuy Posted September 23 #4 Share Posted September 23 In Vines they have discreetly placed reference pours and they’re consistent 5oz. In the other bars / MDR, they’re free poured without a visual reference.

Believe me the bartenders know exactly where to pour and stop in the glass to hit 5 oz

Most restaurants I go to have various levels of wine pour f from 4 to 6 to 9 ounces. Prices are by ounce
Moondogy Posted September 24 #9 Share Posted September 24 Hhhmmm....maybe that explains why a bottle at home only last about 3 glasses....🤣 5
riffatsea Posted September 24 #10 Share Posted September 24 I agree that its not really different from a pour on land If you're a regular at a bar on land you also may get a more generous pour
Rare reeves35 Posted September 24 #11 Share Posted September 24 (edited) Standard pour is usually 150ml (equivalent of 5 fluid ounces). For reference a standard metric cup is 250ml. Edited September 24 by reeves35
VibeGuy Posted September 24 #12 Share Posted September 24 With the old Bormioli Rocco glasses they were remarkably consistent. With the Riedel their sight pours are much less consistent. They may average 5 but the standard deviation is higher. Unpopular Opinion: I would prefer them to use Enomatic dispense and preserve systems, especially in the service bars for the MDR and the open decks, to serve at a better temperature, without oxidation, and with a consistent 5 oz pour with headroom to pour two tastes per bottle. I was *certain* that they’d do a self-serve Enomatic wine bar with a Medallion integration on at least some vessels. I believe HAL has done this with beer and wine on some - AIDA certainly has.

Not unpopular at all!! I agree wholeheartedly - cannot believe they didn't integrate it in at least Sun, being whole new ship and all. They could have easily on Discovery and Enchanted also.. Then again - seeing as they've done away with Vines anyways - obviously, having the best wine and wine preservation isn't high on their list ...

They put those machines on Celebrity at Cellar Masters and they were always shut down. Only once did we see them working.

I could be wrong, but I distinctly remember either on Celebrity Edge or Silhouette that those wine dispensers were not included in our premium drink package, but ordering from the bar or waitstaff was included, which was very odd and probably why it was so unpopular.

Enomatic systems range in price from approx $5,000 to $20,000 depending on the size and quality. I imagine a cruise line would have to purchase quite a few of the more expensive models to serve its multiple dining rooms and bars. You really think it is worth it to preserve and serve $8.00 a bottle wine in the Dining Room? Maybe a small system in Pinnacle Grill for 4-5 bottles, but other than that, not very cost effective. Those systems were down more than they worked on Celebrity. Total failure. Never have seen on HAL. The bottles needed to be changed out by hand. Great idea that doesn't work except for VERY expensive wine. For those concerned with the pour size 15x5oz equals almost exactly 5 bottles of wine. Scary amount even if you got a couple coffees. With a 5 oz pours they try to get 5 pours out of each bottle.

Rare BamaVol Posted September 24 #21 Share Posted September 24 25.36 oz in a 750 ml bottle. So about 5 glasses in a bottle. Therefore 15 drinks = 3 bottles.
Lou33 Posted September 25 #22 Share Posted September 25 (edited) The pours were very small, the smallest I've ever seen, when we sailed on Diamond Princess and Ruby Princess the last few years. Much, Much smaller than I'm used to getting in a restaurant. The waiter said that they pour six glasses per bottle, so that's just over 4 ounces each. Ever since, whenever my wife and I go somewhere and we get a small pour, we call those "princess pours"😀. I'm used to getting at least 5 to 6 ounce pours at a restaurant. If I had the beverage package, it wouldn't be a problem because I would always order a second "princess pour" for dinner just out of neccesity. But we don't get the beverage package. The tiny "princess pours" are a ripoff and very annoying. On the other hand, when we sailed on Celebrity, the waiter would stop by half way through dinner, smile and pour us an extra 1/2 glass. And of course he always got an extra gratuity. Edited September 25 by Lou33
