Joanne G. Posted August 29, 2015 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2015 I believe casinos are closed during cruises around Hawaii, even when out to sea. That was the case back in 2002 - not sure if that's still the case. Check NCL, as they have a ship in Hawaii full time. Hawaii is beautiful! evandbob Posted August 29, 2015 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Disney - or if on a ship where there is a casino, ask her if she would want to attend the friends of bill and jimmy meetings where support is offered
KenMo Posted August 29, 2015 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Maybe set up her S&S card so she can't charge on it? I know they do that for the kids when requested.

loxley Posted August 29, 2015 #11 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Disney cruises are more expensive as a general rule, but in your case, it may be cheaper. Sent from my SM-N910V using Tapatalk
SadieN Posted August 29, 2015 #12 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Maybe river cruises? Or the smaller, upscale lines like Seaborn? Not too sure if these have casinos or not.
kitty9 Posted August 29, 2015 #13 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Casinos are open on the Hawaii cruises coming and going from the mainland and between each Hawaiian ports. The NCL Hawaii cruise that was suggested is the one that cruises around the islands, not the ones that do a 14 day round trip. The 7 day Pride of America only sails the islands and there's no gambling. Seabourn and the other luxury lines have casinos. Disney, Pride of America and riverboats don't have casinos. Rare Keith1010 Posted August 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Always wise to check with the cruise line. The only times I have seen casinos closed have been when it was required by certain countries. For example, there was a period a few years ago when Chile required ships sailing off its shores not to have the casinos open. This was in effect for a year or two but does is no longer in effect today. It is truly the exception. Keith

Rare Keith1010 Posted August 29, 2015 #16 Share Posted August 29, 2015 We just sailed on a British Isles Cruise and the casinos were open about one hour after we left each port. Keith
GUT2407 Posted August 29, 2015 #17 Share Posted August 29, 2015 British Isles. Ships are not allowed to open their casinos when in British territorial waters. Personally I think Disney may be best. lisiamc Posted August 29, 2015 #18 Share Posted August 29, 2015 Maybe river cruises? Or the smaller, upscale lines like Seaborn? Not too sure if these have casinos or not. Seabourn ships have casinos, as do Silversea.
Floridiana Posted August 29, 2015 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2015 (edited) Additional lines without casinos: Ponant ships have no casino. Ponant is French, but has international passengers and crew. Some of the German Aida ships have no casino, but the line is completely geared towards the German speaking market, however at a much lower price than the small ships of Ponant. Hapag-Lloyd's Europa 2 has no casino and offers some international cruises. I am pretty sure that expedition ships have no casino. The freighter/passenger ship Aranui in French Polynesia has no casino. You may have to think out of the box and look at small ships for travelers instead of large ships for pleasure cruisers. paul929207 Posted August 29, 2015 #20 Share Posted August 29, 2015 The NCL Pride of America does 7 day cruises around the Hawaiian Islands. I believe they are all round trip Honolulu. Hawaiian law prohibits gambling on them. These are NOT the 14 or so day cruises that go round trip fro the US west coast. They allow gambling on the cruise between the mainland and Hawaii and back. They do not allow gambling while in Hawaiian waters.

All other ships the casino is only closed while the ship is in port. about 3-60 minutes after pulling away from the pier, it will be open until about 2 am

nwo4life Posted August 29, 2015 #23 Share Posted August 29, 2015 There are several Southern Gospel charter cruises on Carnival each year. On these cruises the casino and all bars are closed. Prices for these cruises seemed to be 2 or 3 times more expensive than other cruises.

No point in dicing an issue of when it is open or when it is not open. You stated " you and your wife have a gambling problem". So stick with a line with no casino.
