Better Ship?? Epic or Getaway?

Recommended Posts

The rooms are weird on the Epic, but we prefer that ship over the Getaway (nothing wrong with the Getaway, we just like the Epic better.) Better than either of them, though, is the Escape, which was the first that had the District Brewhouse and the Waterfront, both of which are outstanding features.

Getaway has been our least favorite ship in the NCL fleet. That said, we are trying her again in 2 weeks from teh Haven perspective.

We loved Epic (especially the bowl slide!!), but many complain about hte bathroom layout (didnt bother us).

Hi, we have only been on one NCL Cruise and that was a charter on the Joy. For you NCL regulars which ship is better? We are husband and wife 35-45 and we enjoy activities on our ships. Thank you for any help!

We have sailed on the Epic 6 times and Getaway 4 times (including last week). We prefer the Getaway (which will be closer to the Joy).

I love the epic!! The bathroom layout is European - it’s great as it means if sharing a room one can use the toilet while the other is in the shower... no bother at all!! Love the bar layouts on epic, shakers etc. Haven’t been on getaway so cannot compare.

Never understood the big to-do about the Epic's deconstructed bathroom's .

One issue was that the vanity light over the mirror wasn't bright enough .

What you say is absolutely correct. You fail to mention, however, that only glass separates you from anyone entering the cabin.

We love the Getaway! We’ve been on Pearl, Epic and Escape as well, several multiple times. Getaway, especially the pool/sun deck area, is our favorite. You can see our pics and such here https://gotravellife.com/2018/01/03/about-us/

Best show at sea (in our opinion) is on the Getaway. Million Dollar Quartet!

Epics waterslides have the edge over Getaway.

Getaway has the Ocean Blue 'walk-up' window on at sea days. Usually just us and the officers in line. Has great Lobster Rolls for those of us who don't live on the east coast.

sailed in Getaway twice and Epic once (with a second cruise booked). We liked them both. Enough has been said about the Epic cabins. I think the big difference is that the Epic design leaves little opportunity to look out at the ocean outside of your stateroom. The waterfront features on the away ships is my favorite feature of these ships. Hope this helps but again we really liked both ships.

I've been on both and think Epic is a much better ship. Although the ships are very similar to eachother with many of the same restaurants, venues, and casino as the centerpiece of the ship.

The Getaway wins with a better water park and the amazing waterfront boardwalk. However, the Epic wins on just about everything else. Haven, spa, gym, nightclub all bigger and much better on Epic. Even the Garden Café is prime real estate and forward on Epic. I like how many of the restaurants are bigger and fully enclosed like a real restaurant. On Getaway, La Cucina and the Asian restaurant are open to casino smoke since they don't have enclosed walls.

Epic cabins are curved and funky. Some cant get over that. Some of the beds on Epic are round which also freaks people out. If those kind of quirks bother you then definitely stick with Getaway. IMHO, I thought the Getaway was a poor imitation of the Epic. On Getaway there is no Bliss lounge either. Spice H20 is better on Epic with a real plunge pool and tiered seating unlike Getaway.

The ships are more similar than they are different. If walking outside and a water park are important to you then Getaway is your ship.

I haven't been on neither, but I believe the Getaway is a smaller version of the Escape, which I loved. I have seen tours of the Epic, and from what I can see, the inside is beautiful.

So you are saying that you have been on both? We have sailed both also. We love the Getaway but had absolutely o problem with the Epic. Both are fine ships!

Slight diversion here but hope that's OK...

I'm off on Epic in 10 days time. Been on Jade twice, but first time on Epic. It looks a little confusing/complicated to navigate the ship compared to the others I've sailed. Is that the case, or are reviews / tours just presenting it badly?

For what it's worth, sorry Epic Lovers......the Epic was the WORST ship we have ever been on. Why do you think NCL cancelled their orders for the 'sister' ships after launching the Epic and the feedback??? Beyond being crammed with pax in narrow halls, and awful bathrooms and no windows in public venues other than lido, a smoky casino open to public venues below decks, poor food....and I could go on. I vote for ANY ship other than Epic!!

You shouldn't not ever be the grammar police , ;p

You disappoint me. You missed my typo leaving the "n" off of "no". This keyboard is horrible (I guess too many Dr Peppers have been spilled on it), it sometimes skips letters and sometimes transposes them. I guess it is time to stop being cheap and go get a new one maybe.

If you are staying in the Haven, don't even consider the Getaway. Go for the Epic.

I have been on the Epic twice and the Getaway once. Here are my thoughts:

Getaway's biggest advantage is the Waterfront. Million Dollar Quartet is a great show. There is a Margaritaville. And for us, that was about it.

I liked the buffet being forward at Epic with a large outdoor eating area. I liked the casino bar on the Epic. Bliss nightclub is huge. Spice H20 has a pool. I second the idea of having the restaurants enclosed on the Epic (the view in La Cucina is great).

I also agree with the fact that the Escape is the better ship. If I had to rank ships, I would rank them Escape, Epic, and then the Getaway.
