Terry, sorry to hear of the kidney stone.

For what it's worth, it's great it's through OK. As I was told that these stones are or can be the most pain you are ever likely to experience. I have had a few and gallstones and all are terrible. Keep drinking the water ....

Morning All....

Belated Mother's Day greetings Spins....ours was back in March.....do hope Eloise is doing ok for you.

Terry....sorry to hear that you've been suffering....it truly is a very painful experience, one that my late hubby had to endure which would reduce him to tears.

Mysty....hope you have contemplated well.....😉

What a lovely photo of your Mum JP....very pretty lady and so good you have grandma still.

Hope our own Serene Highness is still enjoying the balcony!

Have started clearing my late fathers stuff out this morning....quite amazing what one finds on these occasions!! I have a rubbish skip coming in at the weekend so the kids and l can clear out his apartment which l intend using as a guest suite in future and even though it's attached to my property its self contained so could be useful!

Happy Day

S☺️

Greetings coolers! The rain as stopped. Plans for the ark have been put on hold. :)

Hope you're feeling better Terry!

Miss S. Contemplation went well I think. Time will tell! Thanks for your kind thoughts! Your guest suite could also be an Airbnb. :)

Myster enjoyed his golf game and he definitely got wet. I think we may attack the gardens today if he is not too stiff to participate.

Have a great day all!

Good afternoon all ....

No balcony today .... rain called off play!

One last day here as we plan to retun back (Helga willing) early Wednesday morning.

I might not be able to decide what we will eat six months out ... but I have ordered some fresh bream with English asparagus for Wednesday and some fresh salmon for Thursday because it is what wifey yearns.

Street food in Singapore --

Jeff - I saw that you indulge in street food in Singapore. We will be there briefly at the end of our WC segments next April and I would love to have some suggestions on where we should go and what we should eat.

Many thanks.

..........if I had only time for one meal it would be 40 mixed meat satay, plus some prawn satay at Boon Tat Street any evening, with a jug of Tiger from one of the Tiger Aunties. The street closes for traffic each night at around 7pm and the tables are quickly laid out. Meat satay are around 32p each so 40 is 12 pounds roughly. Stall 3/4 is our preferred.

I'm envious.

Do not be… I was only there for a few days and really enjoyed the few stalls I tried...but the potential was clear.

On my last night I went up market and Grazed at the Clifford Pier , super atmosphere and ok food.

Terry, hope you are feeling better. That is a miserable experience... It has been compared to another painful experience which is apropos to today.

Appreciate these very kind comments and follow-up wishes above from JP. Plus, the nice shout-outs from Jeff, MissSophia, mysty and Camillus112. Just to update, I am still alive and kicking!! Kind of, maybe? Monday morning went to see an experienced urology specialist. Yes, the 4 mm kidney stone passed and that Friday pain went away. BUT, there is still a 8 mm stone inside my kidney that is supposedly "solid and stable" in its position. BUT, no guarantees as to when and/or if this kidney stone might move in the wrong direction. AND, we depart June 9 to Lisbon for doing Portugal, Spain and France over three weeks. Trade-offs, pro-con factors to consider for what to do . . . or not!! During such a cruise, visiting these various areas, etc., I would not want another painful flare-up. But, getting it "blasted" has potential downside risks, too. Decision?

Go in at 11 am today to have them go "inside" and hopefully make medical magic. I will spare you all of the details, but you get the idea. Things should work out OK, but as I have learned with kidney stones, there are "variables" as to how these break ups happen and the smaller parts move out through our body system. Will hopefully update with positive results later today.

Great mother picture from JP. Classy looking mom!! Sunday, we were involved with the annual Mothers Day Brunch for the Homeless. Nice classy program to honor these mothers. About 400 there. Below are a few pictures of the fun and activities to honor these women.

YES, JP made a wise reference to kidney stones being as painful as child birth. Clearly, I have not done, yet, the child birth experience. But as I noted to a couple of others who made the same point, at least with child birth something good results from that painful process. With kidney stones, nothing too positive results. As I have learned, apparently, men are twice as likely to have such "stones" compared to women.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Terry,

I always understood that these days they blast them into small particles to pass normally. I have never heard on this side of the pond of surgery being a preferred method. Is this because it is made from something else? I have had several and simply relied on extremely potent painkillers and litres and litres of water and hoping for the best. So far (cross fingers) it worked. Gallstones however involved surgery and a gall bladder removal.

The surgery route isn't a consequence of "profit" is it?

Appreciate the nice follow-ups from Spins and Jeff. It's not a profit-motive and/or exactly a surgery. It's a function of where the kidney stone is actually located and hidden. The more normal "blasting" from outside would not work in this case with the stone's positioning inside my kidney. It's not a surgery and/or "cutting". Just going "inside" to do that "medical magic". I'll spare the graphic details!! Will keep folks posted as to the progress and hopefully good success to not have to worry any more about that pesky 8mm stone.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

Jeff. Probably not surgery per se. Rather, an internal laser lithotripsy. External shock wave lithotripsy is OK but can create fragments that are painful to pass, and can bruise the adjacent kidney. Internal laser can be better tolerated as it fragments more effectively and can be targeted more carefully. Surgery, called open pyelolithotomy, is almost never used these days. Can't remember the last time I saw one.

All the rage when I was training - which, if nothing else, tells you how long ago that was!

Incidentally, again perhaps showing my age here, but are we still recommending a high calcium diet to reduce the absorption of oxalates?
