What’s the rudest thing you’ve ever had done to you on a cruise?

On our last cruise we were sitting with a couple who seemed to be genuine until the man pulled a used band aid from his soup, laid it next to the bowl and continued slurping his soup.  We were disgusted and not amused.

I am now wondering where those with service animals are supposed to take their dogs to relieve themselves? A cruise ship seems like a horrible place for a pup.

A friend of mine has a hearing dog and has raised service dogs for the disabled for many years.  She also likes to cruise.  The ships she has been on have special potty areas for service dogs.  She also brings a small baby pool for her balcony in case they can’t get to the designated area.  Her dogs are extremely well trained.  There is a major difference between a well trained service dog and someone’s emotional support animal.

My last cruise one of the ladies in our roll call worked for a true service dog training company, and she was just lovely to talk to.  There’s a good movie too “pick of the litter” that shows the training a true service dog goes through, and how few make it all the way to certification or whatever it’s called.  There was also someone here whose autistic daughter has a service dog that helps her prevent meltdowns and it was fascinating to learn about it and how it knows when to act.  This is SO DIFFERENT from the “emotional support dogs”.  There should really be some sort of LEGIT certification where if a dog is training to perform a task, there is a real, legit agency that certifies it, not a “buy it over the internet” certification.

Yes, I get the difference and I still say the “emotional support” pets blur the line between a highly trained animal performing a task and a pet.

Had an experience, on last day of cruise, had to go to customer service, I stood in the priority line, since I was eligible for that line, when my turn came, a gentleman, jumped ahead of me from the regular line.    The customer service person tried to tell him he was in the wrong line, that I was next and he became very nasty to both the customer service person and me.  I finally just told customer service to help him first, to add insult to injury, he then end the interaction with  some nasty remark, at THAT POINT i had it with him and told you are NO GENTLEMAN!!

Wait, what?   I'm astounded!  Actually, I'm not sure I even understand.

Many of these incidents are incredible but this one is in a class all of its own.  Yikes!

Adventure of the Seas had a "litterbox" on the exterior promenade. We saw a guest with his dog walking towards it one morning as we were walking the deck.

The only rude behaviour I've seen, was when a guest having lunch across from us on the Lido, was loudly complaining to his companion/wife/girlfriend that he had lost over $3000 in the casino the night before. She wasn't happy about that. A moment later, an officer walked by, speaking to each table, and when he spoke to the guest, the fellow stood up, got right in the officer's face and started shouting complaints about the food, service, etc. He then stormed off. The officer came to our table next, and we explained the rude behaviour we had seen and herd from the other couple, and assured the officer we were having a wonderful time and felt the food and service were excellent .

The one that amazes me, and at times causes me great pain, is how many people think my wheelchair is handy to lean on or put there foot up on.

For me it's the not knowing when they lasted washed their hands, before they lean/touch my DS's wheelchair.

As soon as someone places a hand on the chair we will not touch that area again until we have sanitized the area. This makes the chair hard to push if they have touched the handle.

I use a power chair so that’s not so much of a concern for us, but yes on a cruise we wipe it down

I most certainly would yell at someone for doing that.

I probably would have said to him "and it doesn't look like your plastic surgery worked, you are as ugly as ever".

I was thinking along the same lines.

I’m going on another cruise in two days and wow, I’ve never experienced some of this blatant rudeness and I really hope I don’t on this one. I’m the girl that speaks up. If it’s happening to me and especially if it’s happening to a child or elderly person.

You can take the girl out of NYC, but you can’t take the NYC out of the girl.

Only thing that comes to mind, was I was at the pool bar last cruise.  A guy came up and wanted 3 or 4 beers.  But he wanted them unopened.   Bartender explained that the policy was that they had to be opened.

The guy got somewhat abusive, telling the bartender that every other bar would give them to him unopened.

Bartender stood his ground.  Finally the guy left.

Or, as Winston Churchill [allegedly] said to a woman who said he was drunk "I may be drunk, Madam, but tomorrow I will be sober, but you will still be ugly"

Don’t know who said it but my favorite has always been “I may be fat but you’re ugly and I can diet.”

Sorry, you are correct, it was Winston Churchill. In 1946

Good for you!  People shouldn't get away with stuff like that.  In our case, it was just a matter of only four chairs to the left of where we were sitting, so the view was only slightly better.  Had we just walked in, sat in those chairs, and had to move to horrible seats I would have said something.

I'm just tired of pax who feel they're entitled to: cut the line/rush the elevator/Hog loungers for hours & yet disappear for hours, only to magically reappear when you sit down on one of "their" lounge chairs. If I see a lounger that's been vacant for 45 min. I'll claim it. I always love those boors who then suddenly come back after a 2 hour lunch & demand their chair back.

Yes, I'll remove their belongings & hand them to the pool butlers who should actually be doing their jobs! At least on Oceania, they crack down hard on chair hogs & seat savers.

On  a recent Princess cruise we witnessed a situation in the theater that was both incredibly rude and very embarrassing.

During a late night comedy show two small children, probably eight or nine, ran back and forth in front of the stage during the whole show(or at least the twenty five minutes we stayed), loudly heckling and harassing the poor comedian - with not a parent in sight. The poor guy tried in vain to quiet the children, to no avail... his show was ruined by these rogue kids. Now, this was so wrong on so many levels. First of all, this was a ten thirty show... where were the parents?? Children are not supposed to be allowed in the first three rows of any show out of respect for the performers... where were the staff? I was so embarrassed I actually got up to look for a crew member and could find none. We left rather than watch this poor comic endure this pain while just trying to do his job.

We encountered the comedian on the deck after the show and told him how awful we felt for what happened. He shrugged and said it happens all the time.

Saving more than one seat for a theater or comedy show is very rude.  On my last cruise, I watched a comedy show with my husband.  When it ended, there was an announcement that if people wanted to stay for the next show they did not have to leave the room and return.  I saw better seats, so my husband and I sat down at the same time a lady sat down two seats away.  She quickly said that she was saving three additional seats, two of which were now occupied by me and my husband.  So, we moved back to our original seats.

The lady then got up and walked away.  We waited for about five minutes and noticed that the lady was nowhere to be seen, so we assumed she left.  There were no personal items on the chairs saving them, so we moved to two of those seats.  She came back about a minute later and said that she was still saving the seats.  So, we moved again.  That's the first time I have ever seen someone save seats, wander around, then come back and reclaim seats that had no personal items on them.  Some people are very selfish and only think about themselves and not how their behavior is rude to others, especially to groups who have the decency to arrive together for a show and not send someone up 1/2 hour ahead of time to save a bunch of seats.

At times like that I don't speak English. I've even responded in sign language.  Let her get security.

We were in a Deck 10 balcony cabin on Carnival Magic last year and two drunk guys a couple cabins from ours started spitting at passengers on the Deck 5 Promenade. Then they filled an ice bucket with water and dumped it down onto a couple. We and several others called security, who met us to take reports. The two guys were apparently confined to their cabin and then escorted off the ship at our next port.

Confined to their cabin so they could continue spitting and dumping water on others from their balcony.

I think they may have locked the balcony door to prevent that.

Yeah, I spent a lot of time on our balcony that evening and didn't see or hear them. We were in a port the next day, so they had very little time to cause more trouble.
