Brian, the green eyed monster is biting - I really admire your attitude to life and (sorry!) envy your lifestyle! 😊

Bacon and beans smuggled in from Lidl UK,the rest local. The bangers are turkey and chicken and very tasty.

Happy Mothers'Day to all us lovely mums out there.

I know it's a commercialism and the real winners are always going to be the card purveyors, the flower sellers, and the menu planners for those overly-expensive lunches that are on offer today; and let's face it, a lot of our kids cannot afford all this 'stuff' at the moment, but it's also a chance for our kids to say a simple " thanks mum - for everything".

So I also want to say thanks to all of you for doing the most difficult but hopefully most rewarding job in the world. You are loved.

Have a great day everyone. Jane xxx

Another nice sunny day so far, albeit clouding over, it is nice to sit out in warm sunshine. After getting my first state pension payment last month another step towards being an old duffer; my youngest grandson announced I am going to be a great grandad.

May be an image of text that says 'Today I saw two jumbo jets cracking a joke SAIR Polar'

Many congratulations old duffer. What lovely news for you. I don't know about you but when I got my first state pension payment, and realised it was the first 'free' money I'd ever received after 50 years working, I enjoyed it so much. Congrats again. Jane xxx

Thank's Jane, I saw getting the state pension as one of those steps in life that lots don't reach even though I retired over 6 years ago. How is the vaping going?

So true Phil. I didn't think of it that way. The vaping's going really well thanks. I gather that a packet of cigs has gone up to c. £14 in last week's budget so health benefits aside, I'm much better off. I'm not out of the woods yet because I'm still getting pangs of need for a real cigarette but I think they're psychological now. Onwards and upwards. Jane xx

Well done Jane. 👏 You are doing so well…… 🏆

A packet of cigarettes is very expensive - I had no idea the cost had escalated so much.

I think you are doing brilliant. I had no idea one packet was so expensive. As you say onwards and upwards

Thanks very much Gill and Michelle. It's hard going but I expected that. My worry is that after nearly a year retired I'm starting to get a bit bored - never thought I'd say that - and boredom is one of my greatest enemies. It could be a dangerous time for all my good intentions. So, tomorrow I'm going to start looking for some voluntary work to get me out of the house - and my brain! I used to volunteer at my local hospice some years ago so I'll see if they'll have me back. My only problem is that I'll have to find somewhere that will let me take Teddy as I can no longer leave him on his own - he's got so used to having me around he now howls if he's left alone which makes me very unpopular with my neighbours! I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks again. Jane xx

Glad to hear that the vaping is going well for you. I did read the other day that cigarettes had gone up to £14. I remember when they used to be £2/6 a packet.

I stopped working in November and before Christmas we had several birthdays and then Christmas itself. Both OH and I were poorly over Christmas so took a while to recover, but had a trip to Venice to look forward to. Although I have a cruise booked for May, I am now beginning to feel bored, but have ordered some material to get back into sewing, with the intention of sewing myself some new clothes for the occasion, but have yet to find my mojo!

Paulines late mam and my mam were dearly loved and missed by us both.

We went to the early church service this morning at 8am and Father David gave Pauline a Daffodil and a nice card in memory of her mam.

But just think you will soon be getting a big increase in April when last September's CPI is used to calculate you new pension.

Yes, but any increase will be wiped out by rising costs elsewhere.

As an aside, I stopped working when I was 53. No pension (state or private)  - grateful to finally achieve 65 and start getting my money back !
