Royal Caribbean Cruisers -- How Are Things Where You Are? (was "Routine" 😁 day in lockdown... how was yours?)

Well here’s an update from the ball tournament.

We were winning 1/0 top of the third. Owen made two great catches for outs in the outfield. It was his first at bat and as he was running to first, the first baseman got the throw from third.  First baseman was well off the base line and had to tag Owen for the out except he was a great distance away. Instead of tagging Owen with control he hit them with such force that Owen flew in the air. He physically bodychecked him.

So now we are at the hospital emerge. Owen has a broken wrist. Their player was ejected.

I’m waiting in the car because only one person is allowed to go in with them. They’re actually going to put him to sleep to set the wrist. He is in a lot of pain and is also pissed.

Update from Lisa…

So they couldn’t get it all the way back in…they are casting it at the moment, and we will be getting an X-ray and waiting to see the surgeon. Surgery is likely

Ouch, didn't quote all your updates but feeling your and Owen's pain.  So hard to sit with them and not be able to help.  Hoping for a quick resolution and that he isn't out for too long.

Very sorry about this Andrew. Is it the wrist of his dominant hand?

Thankfully not. His last day of school is on Thursday and he has a couple things going on for marks this week. One is a multiple-choice test. One is a drama presentation. And the other is an assignment that the teacher will give out on Tuesday which is due Wednesday.

I’m not sure how he’s going to get this all done or if the teachers will just let him go upon his average mark. For some reason I highly doubt he’ll be at school tomorrow.

latest update from Lisa.

Doctor was just in…said it looks like the placement is good…going to get us a script for pain and a referral for London.

I think we will still be here for a while and then get the script before we head home. They’re already checking that for pharmacies that will be open into the evening hours. I’m hoping in an hour or so we might be on our way home.

@LuckynanaOur very good wishes to your Erin !

Fairfield was/is known for their nursing program. My hubby was there when the school became coed in the Fall of 1971. Most of the girls were in the nursing program then. One of his friends had a successful nursing career at Lenox Hill Hospital.

Tell Erin- Go Stags! 😀

I hope you will be on your way soon and that the pain meds will keep Owen out of pain.  Poor guy my heart goes out to him.

Yes!  Our oldest granddaughter, Erin, will be starting her Senior year there in the Fall.  She is in the Nursing Program and absolutely loves it!  She's working in a hospital in Ct. for the Summer.😊

I was a patient in a local hospital 3 years ago.I had a nurse who was excellent.Toby was a RN for 27 years and got into a conversation with the nurse. She told us that she studied at Fairfield .It is great that your granddaughter loves nursing. When Toby was in HS she wanted to be a nurse. Her parents wanted her to be a Teacher and she became a Social Worker. After our daughters were born she went back to school and became an RN.

This may be a Father’s Day, multi-post.  Today, we were in Sharon, PA for the Father’s Day car show.  But before the car show, where to go for lunch?

Sharon is home to the original Quaker Steak and Lube.  I lived in Sharon after I graduated from college, and I remember when Jigs and Moe opened the place in the mid 70’s.  A restaurant in a converted gas station, it was THE place to be, and my single buddies and I frequented it several nights a week.  It has gone down hill since it’s prime days, and there are not nearly as many cars on display in the restaurant after it was acquired by Travel Centers of America, but they still have some good food and drink.

Grandson played the duck claw machine in the restaurant, and scored three with his first drop.

Guess I am ready to hide some now.

Drinks……When I saw one that said Caribbean Cooler, I had to try one.  And the price was not bad.

It was pretty tasty, and as a bonus, it came with a souvenir fish.

I went with a standard pulled pork sandwich.

You have your choice of heat in the BBQ sauce.  Since I like things hot, I went with the Buckeye BBQ.  At 5,000 scoville heat units, I can’t imagine what the Eat Heat at 500,000 would be like.  I mean, I have eaten habaneros which are around 300,000, but it was quite a jump from 5 to 500 that they offered.

Onward to the car show….,

So sorry to hear about Owen.  He must be more than pissed...not just about the game but other things that will be impacted by the break.  I hope he heals quickly and with little pain.  Maybe some good can come from it.  Isn't he at the age where having a cast might attract girls? 😉

So my extended birthday/father's day weekend has almost come to a close.  I didn't take many more food porn pics but we had a nice meal Friday night with mussels in wine sauce and a grilled shrimp caesar salad.  Saturday was a different one of our favorite restaurants with Coquille St. Jaques...scallops in a great sauce served in a crispy tortilla over mashed potatoes with grilled veggies.  VERY good.  Sorry, but no pics from Friday or Saturday.

Today, we tried a new catering place called Outer Banks Boil Company that also makes seafood boils to go.  They fill a bucket with corn, red potatoes, andouille sausage and shrimp.  They add whatever else you choose...snow crab, clams, mussels, or lobster tails.  You take the bucket home, fill it with water, wine, beer...whatever liquid you want, and steam everything.  Sounds and looks great but fell a little short.  The snow crab and shrimp with difficult to get out of their shells and tasted mushy.  Almost certainly not fresh.

I feel like I've eaten more in the last 4 days than @John&LaLa did on his 3 day cruise with the ultimate dining plan.  Time to diet and exercise for a few days.

I got a great dual purpose gift for father's day.  I got a cocktail smoker and a butane torch.  The cocktail smoker is made by a local firefighter on the island from old bourbon barrels.  Several bars and restaurants use his product and he sells them at a few places here and on Etsy.  The butane torch is used to burn the wood chips for the smoker but we also plan to use it to sear sous vide cooked meat, and probably try caramelizing crème brûlée.

Of course, I christened the cocktail smoker by making one of Greg's special Old Fashioneds.  The taste was great.  Next up will be a smoked Manhattan.  Anyone else know of any other smoked drinks worth trying?

Car show…..

Sharon has hosted a Father’s Day car show for a number of years.  You could not have asked for a more prefect day for a show than today.  It was 70°, sunny, and very low humidity.  It brought out a huge crowd for the hundreds of cars there.

A few shots from the show.

Grandson liked this BMW Isetta that was just about his size.

Did someone say wine?  I really like the wine merchant vehicle.

How about a patriotic paint job on this old corvette?

Someone even brought a boat to a car show…..

I remember Eric having a smoked bloody mary for brunch somewhere and really enjoying.

Interesting.  I'll need to give that try.  I also just remembered the Smoke Ring served in the Wonderland bar.  I'll need to find that recipe also.

I'll take bets now...will I be using the cocktail smoker 6 months from now or will it just be sitting in a cabinet with other forgotten things that seemed very cool at the beginning? 🤔

Looks like you will be having a lot of fun with that. One thing to try is just smoking the glass and not the cocktail. Here is a little video I shot at the bourbon and brunch at Holladay Distillery. The craft bartender called it marinating the glass.

So since we are talking drinks, I tried making a Union Jack lava flow tonight.  It didn’t turn out too bad, but you almost need two blender cups for these.  You have to be really fast between blending the strawberry, cleaning the cup, then blending the pina colada, before they start to melt.

Of course, I have to blend the strawberry without alcohol first, because grandson loves to take the frozen strawberry drink portion in the hot tub to drink while watching some videos.

All the grandkids like watching a show called Wild Kratts, that teaches them about many types of animals. A good series if anyone is looking for shows for young kids.

As soon as I saw the torch I thought Sous Vide.  When you try it out I would like to know how it works.

7 hours and McDonalds for Father’s Day dinner while driving home. Not the day we envisioned. Lisa has already been emailing his teachers as he has 4 days left with 2 projects and 1 test. The one teacher already said do not sweat it. We also CCed the principle and his guidance councillor. Three of the classes Owen had ball teammates.

I found out what they did. 2 sedations, 2 casts after two “realignments”, and 3 X-rays.  From what Lisa understood it was a dislocated wrist, and multiple fractures.  She heard the, pop the wrist back in and watch them do both alignments. He still has a temporary cast, until he sees the fracture clinic at our local children’s hospital. The DRs at the hospital we were at today hoped that we would hear from them tomorrow with the reference.

For those that are queasy maybe don’t look.
