Why has Epic been in Miami so long ?

I noticed that too! Anyone know why Epic has been docked in Miami all of this time? There is another Oceania ship docked near the RCCL headquarters that has also been there for some time. Other ships stay for a short time and leave.

I watched the Oceania ship leave the dock a week ago then return a day later.  Must have had to take on water for its reverse osmosis system.

So no one knows why one NCL ship EPIC is docked in Miami for extended periods of time and most all other ships come in; dock and leave within a short time period. What is up? Do they have technical problems?

Anyone have communication with anyone onboard?

i have been watching to see if it will head to europe most of the other ncl ships that are scheduled to do trans atlantic cruises are now over there a couple just got there a week or so ago

Norwegian Epic is an acting hotel ship, housing all South African, Mauritian, various South American (Peru, Brazil... etc). There are still around 1500-1700 crew left onboard. It'll be staying in Miami until further notice until their home countries reopen and allow them to fly home. Every couple days she will go out for fresh water and come back in to Miami.

So their hoping (NCL) that they can let them leave the ship to fly home rather then cruise to South America to drop them off ? Maybe i am miss understanding do their home country's not want to allow them to return?

Some of the countries in Central & South America continued to experience spikes and rise in Covid-19 cases, and aren't anywhere closed to managing this pandemic outbreak (looking at the John Hopkins dashboard tracking data.)  Even if Brazil, Columbia & Peru, etc. are keeping their borders open and accepting repatriated crews from cruise ships, without and/or with quarantine & isolation measures in place, not necessary a wise and safe idea, best practices to just send them home & dump them at the harbor's transfer points.  

 

Sadly, the cruise ship crews onboard the Epic is going to be remain stranded, unable to get home.  

 

Aren't those butlers getting care packages - perhaps c/o the NCL port agents - from well-wishing passengers that get to know them personally over the decades ??  We sent packages overseas to our troops stationed abroad as a way of saying they aren't forgotten ...  Just saying.

You are exactly right. These are the folks who cannot fly home as their countries do not want them back yet. It's extremely sad, especially when it's your own country. Mauritius is still denying thousands of their own people from returning home. South Africa and most South American countries are the same way for the time being. 

 

Thankfully, Norwegian has decided to keep one ship with these crew... feeding and housing them as an acting hotel ship until further notice as these last crew receive plans to go home.  Some just received flight details to fly home on charters this week, but, if the past comes back around, this would not be the first time it's been cancelled on them. So incredibly sad.
