Yes, there is a big demand for cruising

In the U.K., P&O Cruises experienced such a high level of demand for its newly created domestic voyages for U.K. residents aboard Britannia and Iona that the surge in bookings crashed its corporate website, while Cunard Line experienced its busiest day of reservations in a decade as its U.K.-only voyages aboard its Queen Elizabeth went on sale.

 

Viking, meanwhile, couldn't even put its three new U.K.-only departures on official sale before they completely sold out -- and has just added two more due to high demand.

 

On March 19, Crystal Cruises announced its new Bahamian voyages aboard Crystal Serenity represented the luxury line's biggest single-day opening in its 30-year history. Crystal reported nearly 4,000 passengers booked space aboard Crystal Serenity's sailings from Nassau or Bimini that are slated to begin July 3, 2021. Of particular note: Roughly 200 passengers elected to book back-to-back voyages, with some people planning to spend up to 42 days aboard the company's flagship vessel.

 

Silversea, which announced its 2023 World Cruise aboard Silver Shadow had entirely sold out and was waitlisted. The line noted that the 139-day voyage was the most successful presale in the company's history, selling out in a single day.

 

Silversea isn't alone -- Oceania also sold out its massive 180-day World Cruise in one day.

Not surprising considering how desperate people appear to get on a ship.  I do expect that there will be a considerable number of cancellations as the reality of what the new cruising is going to be.

I agree. I’m surprised, but not surprised, that so many are so anxious to return to cruising when the cruise lines haven’t defined that that experience is going to look like. To me, it’s like having received a gift in a box in the past, and really enjoying the gift. Would one now purchase the box and its contents without knowing what is even inside?

We are ready to board!  The first few months of cruising will be interesting and involve evolving requirements, but we are more than ready to experience them!!!

I agree.  Right now, we are cautiously optimistic.  We will wear a mask, if need be, we will do ships excursions if we must and we will try to follow other safety protocols. We will be getting our vaccine tomorrow.  However, we will not be sailing until 2022. But, we really do appreciate all those brave people willing to jump onto a ship in the next few months.  Those people will give us a window into what we can expect, the good and the bad.   Hopefully, all will go well and we can look forward to next spring on Enchanted Princess. Thank you to everyone cruising this summer and please keep us up to date on your adventure!

We had a cruise through the casino department for October which has been canceled due to dry dock so our next is not till January. Hope most things are back to some semblance of “normal”

Considering how few ships are cruising now compared to normal, not surprising.  The ships being sold for June represent what maybe 10-20% of the number of cruises beds normally available. (20% of the ships at half capacity) Considering the FCCs, the limited number of cruises, the desire for people to travel, especially as in the UK where one would not have to deal with the headaches with international travel, nope not surprising.

 

Will be interesting to see the demand once capacity gets more in line with normal.

My next cruise is Aug 2022;  so we will wait to see how things work out by then.  I will sit and wait to see how this years cruisers do from their Caribbean and European cruises.  Fun times

Surely you’re not going to patronize a cruise line that avoids US labor laws. 
Seems there’s a hypocrite lurking around every corner.

Don't all of the lines and all of the ships bypass US labor laws.  That is why they are registered in places like Liberia.  If you want to only sail on ships that follow US labor laws, that leaves you almost no ships to cruise on and precious few places to visit.

Reading this new thread somehow clicked this thought in my brain:  I'd rather be on a Princess ship right now - today - than living in lockdown Ontario.  Not only would it be more enjoyable, no matter what initial rules they come up with, but it would be safer.

Would rather go on a just released cruise and experience it first hand than read about all the false hoods that will be written about by those who have not went. Could there be a hazard? Of course. But no worse than any other event in life.

Clearly you haven’t had covid yourself or in your immediate family or you might reconsider the risk of being on a ship right now. We all know how much covid protocol sucks and how much we have sacrificed and how negatively our lives have been impacted but a rough bout with the disease will make your head spin.  Stay safe.

No, I have not, but you missed my point.  All the debate and discussion about cruising as to whether all crew and passengers will be vaccinated, plus all the things the cruise lines need to do, and are doing, to be safe - makes me feel that a cruise right now would be safer than living in Ontario where there is a surge in cases in midst of a "third wave".  Far less risk on a ship under proposed new safety protocols than living in GTA.

Well... Fair enough. I will agree that I do wish I could run away and hide on a ship to escape our current situation with increasing cases and numbers and to be honest... my 16 year old son positive and isolating in a separate area of the house for the past 4 days and the next 10.

Don't forget that all the deposits the UK are non refundable  - there will be very few cancellations !

Fair point, but, iirc, the Princess policy is that the FCC has to be used against a new cruise sailing before the end of 2022, so fairly limited, especially compared to the P&O policy.
