Grouse mountain is part of the Coast mountain range and visible from Greater Vancouver and they light it up at night.

Just an interesting fact... the summit is covered in cloud 50 % of the year

the best month February 12 days of cloud and the worst July 21 days of cloud  

 based on 30 years of data from the BOM...

 

So do you get a refund if you can't see your hand ???

The cable car to the top of Table Mountain in Cape Town is very risky with regards to the chance of cloud cover and yet even with tickets the lines and wait time to get on the cable car are long. Some of us are gamblers for a good view I guess 🙂.

A work colleague did the mountain bike ride Chiliburn mentioned when in Hobart on the Ovation a few years ago.  They loved it.  Son was up the top there last month, there was no view.  Several decades ago I caught the cable car up to the restaurant at Queenstown.  Magic.  If it’s similar it would be great.  I found the Cairns cable car experience done via the cruise was just ok

The bike ride was great,very social. A group of 10 or so.

 

Starting at the top was a bit of a worry but in hindsight,nothing.
You could get up to a 100 kms if you want.

 

Cascade brewery ,Cascade gardens,some lovely suburbs and then the waterfront.

 Hardly any pedaling and with entertaining guide.

When we were in Banff in late Aug 2014, the ticket seller told us to save our money as it is cloudy up there & you wont see anything'. Very honest of them.

We did the Jasper Gondola a few days later 🙂

Ah, this is bringing back great memories of our 9N self-drive tour from Calgary to Vancouver thru the Rockies.

 

Did you drive the Icefield Parkway from Banff to Jasper? What a beautiful drive. Did you take the Fraser Canyon route or the Coquihalla Highway? So much to see, I would like to take the time to do it leisurely, every time we do it we are on our way to some place, last time it was to my cousin's place in Lacombe where I spent my vacation build dovetail drawers for my cousin's kitchen. Next time vacation no woodwork.

Yes we took the Icefield Parkway - it was sensational. An incredible view at every turn. We spent 2 nights in Banff, 1 in Lake Louise & 2 in Jasper, before heading west to Whistler & then down to Vancouver. We then took the train to Seattle to take our Alaska cruise, which took us back to Vancouver again 🙂

Excellent itinerary, not rushed. You didn't make it to Vancouver Island though. I you get back this way let us know, we'll show you around.

Yes the itinerary was put together for us by a local company there. We told them a week to 10 days, & they put it all together, including hotels, car hire  some attraction tickets. If we knew how close Lake Louise was to Banff, we would have just stayed 1 more night in Banff, instead of changing hotels, but otherwise it was perfect.

Yes if we ever get back over your way, we'll take up your kind offer.

That is a really beautiful part of the world.  That is when you miss travel, when you recall great memories, like yours, then think you may not get to do it again.  That never occurred to me.  I had a great uncle in his mid 80s who went home to England to see his elderly sisters every year.

The cable car proposal is not looking like it will get the tick of approval.🤔

 

"Hobart's council should refuse a planning application to build a controversial cable car on kunanyi/Mount Wellington because it will diminish the tourism, recreational, cultural and landscape values of the mountain, a report has found.

It will probably pop up again one day and maybe it will go all the way into town.

Funny reading this, it seems I'm the only one who doesn't think the cable car is a great idea😂. I visited Mount Wellington two years ago and I already thought it was so over built. The idea of a cable car combined with shops and restaurants I feel like it would lose what little wilderness feel it has left.

There was some talk of taking it up the northern face where it would have less visibility from the city and waterfront. So it may not be too long for another proposal.

That sounds similar to what NSW government did to pass the Crown Casino in Sydney and that ended up being a disaster😳.

The applicant may appeal, do they have a Land and Enviroment Court like NSW in Tasweiga.
