Experiences/Preferences by those who have sailed both Millennium and Edge

Both are beautiful in their own way, and I wouldn’t hesitate to sail on either of them again. The Rendezvous Lounge on the M class ships are my favorites for enjoying cocktails and music. Edge has more specialty restaurants. I haven’t seen the suites on M class so I can’t compare the ships in that regard.

We have sailed on Edge in July and August this year and had a wonderful time in a Sky suite.  We loved the Eden bar and the Martini bar and didn’t really hang out in the other lounges, except the Retreat lounge.  I know you have recent experience on the Edge also.

We haven’t sailed on the Millennium since its Revolution but in the past we loved the multitude of smaller entertainment spaces and love the fact that there is still a Cellar Masters on the Millennium;. We are sailing on Millennium in a Sky suite on the Panama Canal cruise beginning in late October and will have more experience with the post-revolutionized Millennium after that.  We loved

Luminae and especially the wonderful sommelier Madalena on the Edge and hope that Luminae on Millennium lives up to that standard.

Both are great, if I was basing it on a Sky Suite I would go with Edge.  For Aqua  Millie on Deck 11 aft facing.
We don’t hate the IVs on the Edge but prefer a real balcony so unless it was a cool  weather cruise where we wouldn’t use the balcony we would Millie.

The M class if the price was right in Aqua or suite for a nice cruise.

Edge class for being a nice modern ship with lots of nice areas to lounge around, dine, and drink in. Problem is the price.  The Edge is about double.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅

in some cases the Edge is less.  Recently looked  at a SS on Edge for October in Caribbean 7 N price $5535. and looked at S2 7 night Alaska in September price was $8589.  We booked the Edge

Just got off the Millennium and loved it. Everything looks brand new and beautiful, but at the same time it feels more intimate to me than the Edge. I also preferred our balcony on Millennium.
That is not to say I wouldn’t travel on the Edge again, just prefer M class ships.

Suggest op read some reviews...two diff style ships and experiences.

EDGE was state of the art,  modern ,  great dining options, amazing theatre, excellent shows, superior curated art collection, nice gym, amazing spa  and thermal suite area...

Have never sailed Millie,.before of after refurb..but M Class ships are  much more traditional in layout, design and experience,, offers more regular balcony cabins,,,

Depends on what u are looking for and itinerary..

Here's another great review by someone who had a veranda cabin. This has many lovely photos of the ship. I know there are more recent reviews, but I had these bookmarked so it was easy to find them. These are making me want to book Millie once I'm aboard Edge😂

Appreciate hearing the experiences of those who have sailed both the Millennium and the EDGE….Thx!

I have sailed both and will be on Millennium on Sept 24 again.  First time since she was revolutionized.   It is hard to answer your question as it is very general.  Can you be a tad bit more specific in what you are asking?

Very different ships.   We sailed on the Millennium to Alaska in 2018 and it, IMHO, was in need of a complete refurbishment which I believe has happened.   Assuming she has been revolutionized we would consider sailing again on the Millennium for a specific itinerary but with similar itineraries we would choose Edge.

We booked Millie yesterday for Oct 1in Aqua. Made final payment with our FCC. We have cruised on Millie at least  4 times. We have only cruised on the Edge one time. Loved our sky suite. For myself Celebrity Edge Class has lost that intimate feeling that M Class has. We dont plan booking Edge class ships.

I was on the Millennium this past June (Concierge class cabin) and thought the ship was outstanding!  We sailed the Edge back in April 2019 (IV) as well and thoroughly enjoyed it.

We would never book an IV in warmer weather, as you lose all the A/C in your cabin when open.  We like to enjoy the fresh air on the balcony, but want that A/C when we come in.

If you are looking at a suite, the Edge may offer more venues/options.

After sailing Infinity in April 2019 and Millennium June, 2021, as well as Edge in December 2019 — my family and I agreed we would likely no longer book a cruise on a Millennium class ship. While we had a great time on all, our recent cruise on Millennium felt a bit boring in terms of ship experience. Not as many dining venues, entertainment not as snazzy. Shops a bit limited.

I agree with another poster here who felt the decor on Edge class to be a a bit "blah" with the gray and beige color palette everywhere, but on the whole we really prefer Edge class (and Solstice class) ships. In our own personal experience, the dining, nightlife, and entertainment experiences just didn't compare.

Thanks all.

Those who have followed me know that I've sailed solo the last couple of cruises.  Because of work duties (Nurse), my long time GF could not join me.  Well, the hospital she works for has hired in a new spate of nurses to give their current (beleaguered) staff a little bit of a breather.

As such, we were going to go to Europe this upcoming Christmas season.  But, given she has some upcoming time off coming with the new hires, and she doesn't know how the new COVID surge may affect her work status this Holiday season, we're looking at getting away next month, too.

So, where to go?  We've both sailed the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas umpteen times.  When we go to Europe, we plan to be gone at least 2 weeks.  She can probably only swing 1 week off right now.  So, Alaska is doable in that time frame.  And, neither of us have ever been there.

I'm cautious with COVID protocols.  I feel Celebrity does a really good job with the COVID protocols.  So, Millennium is the only ship they have sailing to Alaska right now.  I was personally curious about the differences between it and the EDGE, which I've sailed twice (and truly enjoy).

Here's the kicker.  I've sworn off NCL because of the way they treated many of us when cruising started back up again.  Many of us had cruises cancelled, only to have them reappear, just with a higher fare.  After waiting months for a refund, that did not sit well with me (us).

However, given the GF is a nurse, she really likes the idea of sailing on a 100% vaccinated cruise.  Plus, she likes the idea of sailing on the Encore, which neither of us have ever been on before.

Tried to convince her she would love Celebrity.  But, given I told her to pick which and what she wanted and I'd gladly follow, the decision is hers.

I'm so happy to hear that you two will be able to cruise together this fall. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time, regardless of ship😊

Thanks.  We're in the planning stages, but given her narrow window, this could happen quickly.  She's not on CC, but looks over my shoulder if she's around while I'm posting (like right now!!!!!).

She said "thanks" for the kind wishes.

I'm sure you know this, but Celebrity is, for all intents and purposes, 100% vaccinated.

I do know that.  She is leaning towards the Encore.  She's much more forgiving than I am.  But, she's agreed to look over the info about the Millennium to Alaska, though.  If it were just me, it would be Millennium, hands down.

Celebrity seems to be running at about 50% capacity (or less) now, and I doubt that will change before 10/31. Millie's full capacity is around 2,000, so it's possible you'd be exposed to far fewer people on Millie than you would be on Encore. Just a thought. The most important thing is that you'll be together, at sea, relaxing, and she'll forget about her super stressful job for a while☺️

I sailed on the Millinium prior to its renovation.  Prior posts about the trip are very accurate.

I was on the second Caribbean cruise on the Edge.  It's a lovely ship, but I didn't enjoy their version of faux balcony.  For me, it only made it possible to get into bed without having to crawl over my husband!

This is only a warning for short people only.  My main complaint was that the barstools (including the Pool Bar) are way too tall and there are no ways to get a step up.  There's no small shelf at the bottom of the bar to help hoist oneself.  The Casino Bar was a bit easier, but impossible to pull in.

The only bar where I could comfortably get on the barstool was in the Sunset Bar.  It has a lever to lower the seat.  Unfortunately, I was not strong enough to push it down!  I had way too many embarassing moments trying to get a drink!

Oh, and the bars were so tall, the bartender could barely see me to take my order!

Going on the Millenium in late October.  I can't wait to see the renovations.

Try listing the things that are important to you both then mark out of 10 which ship has better...

For example, thing that would be important for us on an Alaska cruise at present would include include....

Recent health and safety levels

Itinerary

Indoor pool

MDR layout

Lounge With panoramic views

Speciality dining options

Drink packages

Room layout

Room service options

Cost....

We have done this a few times re hotels as well as cruises...
