Not sure how "live" this will be, since I only have the free wifi, but I will at least try to take notes daily and post when I have cell service.

 

Got to the pier at 9:38 when my friend dropped me off. Took a quick picture in front of the ship and then dropped my luggage with the porters. Line for security was a little long, but moved fast. Then there was no line at all for Latitudes priority check in, so I had my key card by 9:59. So just about exactly 20 minutes.

 

I am now seated in the Latitudes priority boarding area, anxiously waiting to board the ship.

If you only have the minutes for the WiFi, make sure you log out after each usage.  I have truly enjoy all of your post in the past.  I will be on the Breakaway, out of New Orleans in just over 30 days.  I loved the Getaway which is a similar ship.  Can't wait to here your thoughts.

 

I favor which I know I don't have to ask you but will.  PLEASE focus on your trip.  We can wait a few days for your thoughts.  It is fun to reply to everyone with question, I know, it give me great pleasure.  However we all wait for this special time on a cruise.  That really should be all of our priorities.  

 

Glad you are with your brother, that makes a trip even better.

A little over a year ago you were a lifesaver on the back to back Breakaway cruises to Bermuda with the new requirements, and we were on the second of your two sailings learning from everything you did on the first week. A much easier sailing this time around, I’m sure!!!  Once we were on board, everything was great for us, and I hope it’s the same for you this year as well!   Enjoy your cruise!!

Boarding started at 11:34. And I had a loooong wait on the gangway behind the people in wheelchairs. I assume it was because they all needed the elevators, so the path to the stairs and hallway was blocked. Finally made it through the crowd and had to wait in a short line to get a table at O'sheehan's.

 

 

After getting my drink and food order in, my brother's girlfriend found me and joined me for a drink and a salad. Eventually my brother showed up as well, but didn't want any lunch because he ate too many snacks in the Haven waiting area.

 

I got checked in at my muster station after lunch and enjoyed a Mr. Worldwide (my favorite drink) at the Atrium bar, waiting for the rooms to be ready.

 

 

 

Once rooms were ready I went to mine to drop my backpack and unpack it. My brother texted me to bring him a drink and come see his room (an aft Haven). So I went to Mixx and grabbed us a couple of drinks to bring up to him. Rode the elevator from 6 to 11 by myself on embarkation day!

 

I hung out with my brother and his girlfriend in their large, swanky aft Haven for a while. I was there when their butler came to introduce herself and we had a nice chat.

 

I then went back up to my room for a quick nap before sailaway, but my luggage had been delivered, so I unpacked first. I slept a little longer than I intended, but did make it up to Spice H2O for a bit to meet some people.

 

The solo Meet & Greet was being held at Maltings at 5:30 and I had dinner reservations at 6:00, so I just stayed at Spice long enough to drink two mojitos and chat with a nice couple on their first Norwegian cruise.

 

I then went back to my room to quickly change for dinner and made it to Maltings at 5:30. It was good timing, as we were just sailing past the Statue of Liberty.

 

 

My brother found me there and we went across the hall for dinner. I had made all my dinner reservations online, but being in the Haven, my brother didn't see the need to do that. So when I told him I had a 6:00 reservation at La Cucina, he had the Haven concierge work their magic to get himself and his girlfriend added to my reservation.

 

I had originally booked La Cucina when one of the Platinum vouchers needed to be used for La Cucina or Moderno. I could have changed it once onboard, but it was fine sticking with La Cucina. I had the Shrimp Ravioli and the Veal Marsala. Both were good and the lemon cheesecake for dessert was excellent. During dinner we also passed under the Verinzano (sp?) Bridge and we ran outside to take a few photos.

 

 

 

 

After dinner I paid my daily tithes to the casino gods and then I headed to O'sheehan's to try to watch the Bills game. When I got there, the didn't have it on and it seemed there might be a mutiny. Turns out there were 200 Rochesterians who had taken a bus from Rochester to the cruise and then were going to the Jets game the Sunday we disembark, before heading home. So all 200 of those people, plus myself and some other Bills fans were ready to take the bridge, if necessary.

 

When they finally turned the TVs on, they originally put on a basketball game and people were losing their minds, but they did get the Bills game in just in time for kickoff.

 

I spent the duration of the game chatting with Mike to my right, who was one of the Bills fans from the bus. He is a Bills season ticket holder and his son was at the game in his stead.

 

To my right I chatted with Ted, who I had met at both the Spice H2O sailaway and Maltings. Since we are both solo, we decided we might use our Platinum vouchers for each other, so he may meet up with me at Le Bistro on Tuesday night.

 

After the Bills game, it was up to late night snack right as they were closing things down in the buffet. Then off to bed.

Extremally well done. I have never cruised out of NY and loved hearing about it.  Your entire overview and writing style was so easy to follow and allowed us all to live through you.  Thank you again.

My brother booked it for himself and his girlfriend. The price for a solo sailor was super cheap (no solo supplement) and I still had $500 of Cruise First on my account that I had intended to just let expire. But with the price and the fact that I still hadn't been on a cruise with my brother (we were booked on a cruise together in March of 2020, which obviously got cancelled only a few days from sailing), this was too good to pass up.

Glad to see you back on NCL @JamieLogical. I have loved your reviews in the past. I had a similar Sports experience on the NCL Joy last November. Big group from Michigan and we boarded on the day of the Michigan/Ohio State game. Took around 45 minutes for them to "find" the game. Thought a mutiny was going to occur.

Gary @Sthrngary - You have never cruised out of NYC???!  The sail out of the port is spectacular.  You have to do it.

 

@JamieLogical - echoing the sentiment that we are glad you're back to these boards!  It's interesting to see, but I'd be frightened to document my drink consumption during a cruise.  My liver would say:  "See, I told you so...it's right there in black and white".

I sailed Getaway solo in August & LOVED the Syd Norman's group.

Hailey (the blond) said she was going to the Getaway--not sure if she is on already or if the whole group moved, but if so, you are in for a TREAT, not to be missed. (I don't miss a night, but I'm a groupie...)

You need to know that your solo cruising inspired me--don't need to be single to sail solo!

I haven't typed up any notes for today yet, but to tide you over, here are some photos of my room. Two things of note in my room: 1) they now have a card on the light switch that explains how it works and you can keep inserted all the time 2) there is no longer a coffee maker.

We had the same thing on the Joy two weeks ago.  I think they finally figured out that more people were locking themselves out of their rooms than were saving any electricity.  Prior to that cruise, I had just been using my AAA card to turn the lights on.
