The Fleet Report and Daily for Wednesday May 1st, 2024

Recommended Posts

@ger_77 Happy to read that Maurice's surgery is on the horizon.

@kazu thinking of you today.

@StLouisCruisers beautiful progress on the stocking.

@marshhawk prayers for Chuck and it was interesting we were both struck by that beautiful black dahlia.

All went well with the computer returns at the tribe's government offices.  It was supposed to open at 11 but we were through at 10:15.  They probably were happy to see a tub of computers versus all around us were the giant tube TVs being recycled.

Ann,

We already have 2 nests discovered over the weekend! Hopefully it will be an active season.

@StLouisCruisers  This comes from a non-cross stitcher....do you cut the stocking out & back it with something so it is an actually a stocking?   I admire your patience!

Hi, just finished talking to DD so we can make plans for picking her up tomorrow night at Tampa International airport.  We're leaving home in the morning for our drive down to Tampa.  Check in at the Airbnb is 3 pm.  She arrives at 6:30 so we get to drive through rush hour traffic back across the 275 bridge.  Then dinner after we pick her up.  We'll see Morgan Friday morning for breakfast and a tour of the new apartment.

As for your question, yes once the stocking is finished the procedure is to cut excess fabric away leaving a 1/2 inch allowance on the sides, with a 1.5 inch allowance at the top.  That top area will be folded down and hand stitched down.  But first I cut out a piece of lining material and sew that to the back side.  Then I cut out the backing material which comes with the kit, a heavy felt in a matching color (navy).  You use a sewing machine to stitch the backing to the back side of the stocking, then have to carefully turn it right side out.  Then you make a loop out of matching yarn where you braid the pieces of yarn, make a knot so the loop is the size you want, and hand sew it to the upper outside of the stocking.  It should look like this, even down to the name!

I think it is really active already, Charlene. There are two nests in Flagler Beach and I believe a third has been discovered along the Ormond Beach - Daytona coastline.

The Flagler Beach buried sea wall project has a doubly difficult task to protect the nests.

So exciting- and adorable. I hope they're able to stay safe.

Registering for the conference and booking flights was a frustrating process, both because of the registration forms and because of the airline's superior--I mean horrible--IT (possibly acquired from a cruise line?).

One of the first questions in the registration forms was the size for the conference T-shirt. It had to be answered and there was no option for "no T-shirt." The instructions for the date fields say to use the forms DD/MM/YYYY but the form actually requires MM/DD. For some parts, optional add-ons were combined with the basic options, but for others they had to be selected separately. You get the idea.

Now, I needed to be booking flights while filling in the registration forms, because of having to specify whether I would need to arrive the day before or stay until the day after. Once I knew what flights I wanted, the airline's website offered no way to pay with e-credits and insisted on charging the entire amount to a credit card.

I cancelled that booking (refund to the original form of payment allowed within 24 hours) and started again, this time from the e-credit page. When I had everything lined up, the website abruptly returned me to the home page. On the third attempt, I got it to use the e-credit but then it seemed to charge the balance to the number of one card with the expiration date and security code of another card, so I am not sure whether my "confirmed" booking might not be cancelled when they notice, if that's what actually happened.

Good late afternoon everyone,

I had a very nice time with my BFF in Bellingham -- some tears and lots of hugs.  Sadly there is a new worry re Amber.  For the last day or two she has been sleeping a lot, too much.  Also for the first time she's showing anger issues (not like her at all).  So, we of course are worrying about brain damage.  The doctors also mentioned "white matter" in the brain... I can see the toll this is taking on my friend, and can only imagine the toll on her son. We're hoping they will schedule another MRI to give some answers.   She asked me to thank you again for your prayers.  She said this must be an amazing group of people. 🙂

On another note, a big thank you to Rich @richwmn for helping me with the cruise video problem!  As I told you, there's no hurry -- we just appreciate your help. 🙂

White matter is necessary and normal in the brain; it connects the neurons of the grey matter. However, damage to it can be serious.

Thank you, I did wonder...I'm getting this info 3rd hand, and now wonder if the doctors actually said "damage to the white matter" or just mentioned the white matter.  Time will tell, I guess.

Still catching up. It was a better day today. No blurry vision periods for DH; the pressure goes down with the “massagers” as it’s supposed to, showing that they do push fluid through the new flap, so the flap isn’t sealed!  That’s Good!  But pressures are up by 4 hrs later when we do the next set. Drops every 2 hrs. We’re staying hopeful!  I’m still drained.

Brother from NC made it home today, 10 hrs. Tomorrow I’ll get groceries, late but we’ve managed.

Prayers for Maurice’s schedule to firm up!
 For Amber and family.

For Sandi and family.

For Paul’s reservations, nerve-wracking!

Bruno. Jacqui. Terry and Tana, Terri and Jim, and not forgetting Annie and Chuck!
For @Gsel and the horrific storm damage and tragic losses.
For a good sleep, or a g’day for friends afar.
Thank you all for being here.
One day at a time is quite enough!  m—

It’d be grand to see Juneau again!

Good evening. Been busy getting ready for my trip and leave tomorrow. Hopefully the storms will wait until I arrive. I probably won’t be able to post while I’m gone.

We have been to Juneau many times. This is from September 2021, one of the first cruises after the restart , on the Nieuw Amsterdam. I really love that ship.

This has been the last 3 days-

monday doc tells DH that he cant do a nerve block for the pain as it may push the cancer towards the brain.

Tuesday ENT PA says the holes in his face may be caused by his immunotherapy-nothing they can do to repair it, since he has had massive reconstructive surgery. (hole goes from the outside of his face into his mouth, making drinking, eating and swallowing hard.-he currently has paper tape over the hole-its about the size of a pencil eraser) the two on his nose have closed back up, but it makes his nose look like he was bit by one of the cats.

Wednesday dermatologist tells him that she sees more cancer, and that we need a better doctor, refers him to another Doc, who has an appointment available in January. And yes, you can see the cancer if you look up his nose.

I think we really need to talk to his oncologist, but DH doesn't seem to want to get that conversation started.  HE is more worried about the baby kittens, turns out the momma cat only has two nipples, and he thinks the kittens are starving.  I think that she rotates the kittens so that two can get fed at a time.  And he told me that if two of them die, he will be really mad at me because it will be my fault.  I told him if he was so worried, we take them all to the vets tomorrow.  And he needs to wake up early to call the vet.  Emergency.

I'm just tired, from driving to his appointments each morning (this morning at 5) to working until 9 at night-tonight because of a screen error, I got a sale, but couldn't complete it without management's help. So I got done at 10:15 tonight..  Folded laundry with DH and took water out to momma cat, and sat down here to catch up. DH is watching Legends of F1-Jackie Stewart.

I did take a 2 hour nap this afternoon. I think he has too much to think about to sleep right now. I get it.

And that's where we are at.

@StLouisCruiserssafe travels tomorrow my friend.

Annie, you both have been hit with a lot of bad news all at once, and I can't begin to imagine how difficult it is to process.  I wish there was a way to help you cope, but know we are sending you our best wishes, very positive thoughts, and all the support we can.

Big virtual ((((((((HUGS)))))))) to both of you.

Annie, that's a lot for anybody to cope with.  I send you both lots of prayers for answers and help with all the cancer issues.  Hope you get to that specialist soon that the dermatologist referred him to.  January is ridiculous!  Hugs!

I have been to Juneau many times, even spent a week there years ago. But what I saw in 2023 was very sad. Don't remember how many ships were in port that day, but the streets were so crowded people had to walk in the street.  The dock area was wall to wall people just standing in groups. They were rude and refused to move to let people through. So glad to see the news that Juneau will start limiting the number of ships!
