champagne123 Posted November 1, 2017 Author #5 Share Posted November 1, 2017 There is a dedicated Virgin Voyages thread here. Thank you for sharing. I would never have known to look for it though, had I not stumbled across the article. Now we can all research if interested. 😎
idraconis Posted November 1, 2017 #6 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I'd check it out, however I'm guessing pricey.
Shorex Posted November 1, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 1, 2017 It's a great concept for a start up cruise line. His is not the first cruise line to adopt this policy, the new Viking Ocean cruises are for adults only. However, to avoid some unintended connotations, it might be better stated as "no children allowed." Viking has received extremely favorable reviews from its customers - not just for the "no kids" policy. It will be interesting to follow the developments of Branson's cruise visions. Aquahound Posted November 1, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 1, 2017 Coming to Miami in 2020. ADULTS ONLY...from Sir Richard Branson of VIRGIN AIR. I am very intrigued by Virgin Voyages and I'm excited that a totally new type of cruise company is coming into play. My questions are....what category is the line going to fall in to and what kind of prices are we looking at?
GSOTall1 Posted November 1, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I feel like adults only is a great concept but at the same time, a lot of the stuff I enjoy doing on a cruise is probably there because kids are allowed, e.g. slides, flowrider, putt putt, basically anything in the sports zone of a ship. All the times I would prefer that kids not be present are later in the night such as casino, night club, etc.
calliopecruiser Posted November 1, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 1, 2017 Coming to Miami in 2020. ADULTS ONLY...from Sir Richard Branson of VIRGIN AIR.https://uk.style.yahoo.com/apos-ready-shiptease-apos-sir-180215227.html Meh. Not much new there other than the minimum age -- but, really, I might rather have a group of 4 year olds than a group of 24 year olds aboard. Their press sounds like they're something special, but everyone's press makes them sound that way. I think it's a good move for Branson, but I don't know that it will be particularly interesting. I'd be more interested if it had an "over 30" age limit, LOL.

Travelcat2 Posted November 1, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 1, 2017 I love the idea of a child-free cruise line but agree that I don't want to be on a party ship. Hopefully the ship will be "premium" class so the fares will be around what Celebrity or even upper premium (Azamara, Oceania, Viking) charge. IMO, there are tons of very low cost options but fewer quality cruise lines in the mediums price range. Also agree that rather than "adults" only, it should be "child-free" or "no kids under the age of .........". The "adults only" connotation isn't always a good one. calliopecruiser Posted November 2, 2017 #18 Share Posted November 2, 2017 I have real doubts that a bunch of college kids could afford a Virgin product. Those same kids will stick with Carnival. I would wonder what kind of innovations he'd bring to the cruising table. Really? I mean, Virgin air and mobile are not hot, exclusive, expensive products........ I would, if the on board amenities were worth it. I rarely cruise for the port, and the Caribbean is just convenient( we can drive to embarkation ports)

The "adults only" connotation isn't always a good one. I think the fact that there will not be any Flow Riders, Climbing Walls, and Kids' Clubs might send the message that this ship is child-free or adults only. Of course the list on on-board activities might also be enough to ward off the kiddies..... Bocce Ball, Lawn Bowling, Walker Races, Cataract Cribbage, Osteoporosis Old Maid................. ;p
navybankerteacher Posted November 3, 2017 #21 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Is "Adult" a defined term? What is the cut-off age? Frankly I would find a bunch of 18 to 25 year olds more of a turn-off than any other six year span: say 1 to 8 year olds , or, perhaps a crowd of 89 to 95 year olds (although their motorized transport might be a bother). On the whole, however, I think I would have second thoughts about being among two thousand or so people for whom "adults only" is a big draw. In a word: "MEH" - especially if it is used to justify premium pricing.
TruckerDave Posted November 3, 2017 #22 Share Posted November 3, 2017 If it is anything like Virgin Atlantic, I am in!!!!! So then which US based cruise line will buy 49% of it??? (Delta owns 49% of Virgin Atlantic ;))
wowzz Posted November 3, 2017 #23 Share Posted November 3, 2017 P&O have a couple of adult only ships (Oriana and Arcadia) which are extremely popular. Depending on the cruise and time of year the demographic can be a little older than normal, but on shorter cruises the age profile is much younger, but without the dreaded 18 - 25 party crowd. Bocce Ball, Lawn Bowling, Walker Races, Cataract Cribbage, Osteoporosis Old Maid................. ;p I don't think Sir Richard will try to be another HAL, nor do I think he wants to build a "Hedonism of the Sea". Just like with any cruise line, no one will be forcing anyone to board. If you don't like the offering, so be it. Options, options, options. Personally, I'd love to be on a ship without families. But, I don't think the price point will be something I can afford. Boutique lines are out of my budget and mass market commodity lines (HAL, Princess, RCCL, Carnival, NCL) have to pull from everyone to be able to make money... CarolinaGirl2010 Posted November 3, 2017 #25 Share Posted November 3, 2017 I saw that. Interesting! And usually Virgin products are cheaper, so maybe it will be an affordable cruise?
