Is It Possible To Win?

 Share

Recommended Posts

So can I actually walk out of the casino a winner? We will be on the Navigator in a few weeks and I'm setting aside $100 for the casino. I don't play and last few cruises didn't even walk through casino since my husband hates them but this time I'm going by myself. Thinking of slots, don't know what else to play. I'm looking for any advice and tips and yes, I'm prepared to stop and walk away:)

my mother's budget was always under $200. she never walked out in the hole. when her stash was gone, she was done. once she won enough to pay for the next cruise. once she walked out with enough money to buy some $800 doll she had been wanting for a hundred years.

so it is eminently doable.

You can go through $100. quicker than you might imagine while playing slots. As far as "possible" - you might get lucky- but remember, there are far more losers than winners in the casino, so set your daily limit and have fun.

That sounds like a typical gamblers review of their night - never admitting their losses to anyone..... "NEVER "walked out in the hole"???? HA!!! That's next to impossible at ANY casino, especially one at sea. "Eminently Doable" - that's stretching things to say the least.

I would venture to say that 95% of the people spending 200.00 on slots in the casino in a week will simply lose it all. Highly unlikely that one with that budget for a week will win anything, let alone enough for a cruise or 800.00. Sure it will happen for a few people, but not many.

Playing the slots on RCCL is FAR worse than any land based casino. Of course there will be some occasional winners, but the odds are much poorer at sea.

I never go into a casino expecting to win. I look at it as entertainment. Set a daily limit. I have won enough to pay for the cruise, but that is most likely not going happen often. When my stash is gone, we go find other entertainment. Have fun!

Several years ago on Caribbean Princess I was out for a walk around the ship shortly after leaving Fort Lauderdale and soon found myself walking through the casino-They had just opened and there was no one there- I stopped and played a nickel slot machine-down to my last spin and really kind of mad that I had just blown $40 bucks so soon I pulled the arm and to my amazement I hit the jackpot for a little over $5000:)

Every time you make a bet, you can expect to lose, over the long run, a tiny fraction of that bet. The house edge may vary based on the game you are playing, but will typically run between 0.5% (blackjack using basic strategy) to upwards of 10% (penny slots, estimated). Of course, even with a higher house edge, you'd be betting less per spin on the penny slots than you would playing $6 per hand of blackjack. The longer you play, though, the more wagers you'll churn through - which means the house edge applies to every bet you make, which will total more than your original $100 stake.

With a relatively low budget of a hundred dollars, your best chance of winning would be to bet it all on one hand (or spin, or throw of the dice) and then walk away immediately. But that's no fun! So rather than trying to walk away a winner, worry about having a good time instead. That way, you'll get your money's worth in the entertainment value. And yes, you may still get lucky and walk away a winner! It happens, but you can't force it.

Possible, yes. But if you're going to play, go in expecting that $100 to be the cost of playing. If you win, that's a bonus; if you lose (which is likely, otherwise casinos wouldn't make money), you lose.

I will say that, on my recent cruise, I came out ahead. But I'm not a big gambler. I just put a $10 bill in a slot machine, and it was one that had enough "wins" to keep it fun for a while. I was getting close to losing that $10, though, when I hit a bonus spin that got me up to almost $30. At that time, I'd had fun playing for a few minutes and decided to cash out while I was ahead. If I'd kept playing, I'd likely have eventually gotten it back to zero, though.

If you get lucky..really lucky, you can win. Of course, that means IF you win, you quit! Don't give it back to the casino!!!

Cruise ship odds are MUCH worse than any land-based casino...except, perhaps, Maryland casinos...they are horrible!

The key is to take the money YOU ARE WILLING TO LOSE....consider it 'entertainment expense'...and when it's gone, it's gone. You knew you would spend that amount, so you're not heartbroken. IF you win....HOORAY for you!!!

try Quick Hits slots- i have seen MANY people win pretty big on this one. I play tables myself so i can't say first hand that i have one from slots.

I can usually take $50.00 and play with it for 3 or 4 evenings, win a little, lose a little, but I rarely take that $50 home with me! One cruise, I hit for over $800.00 on a wheel of fortune slot machine but that was one cruise!

I take $50 and play the slots, never expecting to win. Sometimes I get maybe $20 ahead after playing a bit, but that's never happened on a ship. I have fun for an hour or so and then I don't feel bad if I lost my original $50.

I do play a lot of bingo, though. Last cruise, there weren't many people playing, so we won like four times. Never the big jackpot unfortunately, but we won enough each game to pay for the next game. It was a lot of fun. :)

not impossible at all. she had $200 to spend. when that ran out she was done. sometimes she won enough to keep her gambling all week, sometimes she ran out on day one. the cruise where she won the $800 was on the last night. the one where she won enough to book a new cruise was on the second night and on day three she went down and booked it.

by saying she never went into the hole i mean she never spent MORE than her original stake of $200. any winnings were rolled into her stake but any losses were never replaced.

Out of 7 cruises she took before her death, she came out ahead( even if only by $5) 5 of them.

My experience is that I budget what I am fine with losing, and I consider it "winning" if I come back with any of that money. Last cruise, I budgeted around $250, I played blackjack every night for 3-4 hours and came back with about half of my budgeted money. Cruise before that I budgeted about the same, did fairly well on a particular slot machine, no jackpots, but would go over $200 when I only put $20 in and would cash out immediately and go back to playing the $20 original dollars. I ended up getting three pieces of artwork I really wanted with my winnings.

When a gambler says they have never walked out of the casino in the hole, well lets just say they are fibbing, to be nice....

If I lose, I consider it entertainment I paid for.

If I break even, I consider it a "win".

That said, I have won a few bucks a couple of times (I've spent much more over the years than I've won). A friend of mine, who is much luckier than I, has won the cost of her cruise a couple of times. She's very much a lightweight when it comes to gambling, so she's probably ahead.

Possible? Sure.

Probable? Not at all.

We enjoy slots at sea and at land based casinos. It is strictly a form of entertainment. Casinos at sea are generally "tighter" than their land based counterparts. Go with the goal of having fun and you won't be disappointment. But, whatever you budget for the casino, plan to lose it all. Don't ever walk into a casino with the hope or expectation of paying for you next cruise!
