Rare island lady Posted May 27, 2016 #2201 Share Posted May 27, 2016 We Ds were kicked out mid-cruise and it was not nice! Having the lounge is a huge plus. The coffee machine and a quiet place to find a seat and mingle. Then if they did that, would there be a Concierge? Having some extra vouchers for a drink maybe all that would be needed for those where 3 is not enough. 3 wine is my limit in an evening though! HUH???!! When was the last time you were a "D"? ;)

I'm guessing the latter would win ;)

I'm guessing the latter would win ;) If there were unlimited free drinks anywhere on the ship, it would be abused so bad. People would be getting drinks for everyone in their party. There would be no control. At least with the DL, and limiting outside drinks to 3 there is some control. Although, I'm sure some of the 3 drinks are already being shared. I think they should just limit the drinks to 3 during the 3 hour period, whether you are in the DL or not. Most people don't drink more than 3 in 3 hours anyway. foxgoodrich Posted May 27, 2016 #2208 Share Posted May 27, 2016 And I am guessing that the poll would show that members want a dedicated lounge with free drinks.:D And, of course, you would be right! BUT that's not what people have actually been saying....the emphasis here has been on the lounge as a gathering/socializing place of 'like-minded' people. What's ironic is that if this rumor is correct (no more bar set-up in the DL, use of vouchers only) people will still have what they say they think is most important - the gathering place for socializing with the 'like-minded." They'll just have to go get a drink and bring it to the lounge. As for me...I'm in it for a free drink or two and a munchie before dinner. I want the drinks and hors d'oeuvres in the DL. I enjoy the drinks, the food, and the dedicated space every evening for 45 min or so before dinner. I do enjoy socializing too but I can meet people most anywhere on the ship. (Some people in the lounge probably don't like my mind anyway.:p) Judy
roquejo Posted May 27, 2016 #2209 Share Posted May 27, 2016 (edited) Regarding the lounge rumor....So many have posted that it is not (really) the free drinks that folks want, it is the place to meet and chat with others. Seems this recent rumor supports just that concept. The lounge will still be there, with a place to chat with others who enjoy cruising. Isn't that what folks said was the real benefit of the lounge? (This falls under - Be careful what you wish for). I disagree, the free flowing drinks are actually "the bait" that draws the like minded Diamonds and up to converge in one place at the same time, in the process, get to know each other, strike a conversation, introduced to each other, exchange ideas and rich experiences on cruising matters, and make new friends. Without that bait and just having the 3 drink vouchers, most Diamonds and up with just either hang out with friends and family at any bars, while some will just pass by it, grab a drink and go to the pool or bring the drink to the balcony, theatre or MDR. The free drinks is just like food you need to throw in a pond for all the fish in different areas of the pond to come to you and converge in one place. Oh great, now we Diamonds became fishes now... Since we always do late seating.....the DW and I like to grab a appitizer and drink from the DL or Diamond event and carry it all out to the nearest public bar to enjoy. We are usually the highest tier members of our cruising friends and want to stay in their company. Most DL's are too small anyways.... Andare con Dio. :D Via is an Italian street. It also means "away" as in vai via... go away. Andare is the infinitive of the verb to go. Vai is the second person singular of andare. It is pretty common for Italians to shorten vai via to via. And I can only do English grammar by thinking in Italian.:) Edited May 27, 2016 by Ocean Boy

I like a drink or two in the evening but I really enjoy the specialty coffee and the continental breakfast. Perhaps the swiping of cards in the CL/DL on some ships may be an indication of things to come. M
tserface Posted May 27, 2016 #2216 Share Posted May 27, 2016 I totally agree with this. I wouldn't mind having to use the vouchers in the Diamond Club. I never have more than a couple of drinks anyway. That would limit the free drinks. I know a bunch of us actually leave the club then go use our vouchers elsewhere and I'm not sure that's really fair. There wouldn't be any big deal just using your card in the DC and then having it keep track of the drinks. That would be a good validation that the persons are all Diamond or up as well. I hope we don't have to compromise because I like it how it is now, but if we do this would be an easy way to do it. Tom And, of course, you would be right! joand452 Posted May 27, 2016 #2220 Share Posted May 27, 2016 We would like to be able to use a voucher during the day; we rarely go into the DL (too crowded), and I may just stop to get a glass of wine to take to dinner. And maybe a stop at the casino bar on our way to the theater for another drink. But a drink at the pool would be nice. Never mind...just remembered I wouldn't be able to get a frozen drink, using a voucher. :( Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

And if people want to hang out in the lounge just take the drink that you just got from a bar and bring it in there. This would clear the staff serving drinks in the lounge to work elsewhere on the ship and save RCI the expense of staffing the lounge.

We only go to the lounge now for the drinks & munchies. Since vouchers were started, we have skipped some nights in favor of going to a quiet bar where you can actually relax and have a conversation. Maybe make it 4 free drinks anytime throughout the day?:D Sherri:)
