Dog on ship

Recommended Posts

On our Serenade cruise this past December there was a Veteran with his service dog. The dog wore her service animal vest and stayed under his chair until given a command otherwise.

I thought all service animals behaved this way and that they all had to wear the official service animal vest. I have no problem with official service animals, it's the ones that are obviously not one and are treated like they deserve to be fed from the table.

And I'm worried that all the people abusing the rules by bringing "Little Fluffy," with her fake service vest & fake documents as well as her poor behavior, will jeopardize the ability of people who need trained assistance dogs like the Veteran to bring them on a cruise.

ok silly question. Where do these dogs go to the bathroom?
Dogs on a ship are supposed to use a designated box with fake grass on the open air promenade deck. However, there are cases of "Little Fluffy doing her business in public areas like the Guest Services desk, her owner walking away and an RCI employee having to clean up the mess.

Two more articles on the Delta tightening rules on emotional-support-animals. One of the articles points out that Delta is being proactive as regulations are being crafted. Bad behavior from dogs on planes -- deficating, biting etc. Also different types of comfort animals including turkeys, ducks and snakes.

A pet friendly cruise ship, (like Cunard's QM2) could make a killing in the US/Florida market. I am seeing many dogs at Publix in Miami Beach and many in Vegas casinos/hotels. The cruise industry should go the other way, if they allow children, then pets could could become a major new income stream.

Think of the endless on-board income sources: pet boutique, pet day-spa, veterinary services, grooming, toy store, pet daycare, pet clothing & jewelry, custom pet photography, pet birthday cakes & snacks, premium pet room service, pet spa cabanas, deluxe pet cabins and suites, pet land tours, pet shopping shore-side, gourmet pet meals by Royal's chefs, dog walking services, kennel services, pet travel insurance, pet massages, dog training & certification, pet events, etc., etc.

If Royal was to do this on one large ship in the Caribbean, I believe they would make more money, than with children or long time cruisers. Royal needs to pic an itinerary which accepts dogs and show how much money could be made be the islands, with this. On one large Royal ship, I bet this easily could make over 10 million annually!

Won't happen...

That's exactly what I keep saying.

It is about time! Maybe the cruise lines will follow Delta's lead; if nothing else, the abusers will have to fly another line to get to their cruise.

Meant 100% wont happen on Royal which you were suggesting, some smaller Charter as a one off. Maybe possible....

See this is where I disagree with you: to me, all RCCL cares about is money and introducing new revenue streams. It seems to me, that there are few new large areas left for them to exploit. This would introduce a large potential financial windfall and would please Wall-Street.

At the end of the day Royal, has shown us they only care about today's profit. They don't care about what we, their passengers actually want. If we are inconvenience or troubled by a new policy, so be it. So if Royal saw the true money in this, "WE" would be the one's to adapt, to their new "Dog Friendly Travel Expansion"!

No, I mean a full trial on on of their Florida based ships, for a least a year. How about making Allure, dog friendly, and introduce some of the ideas I have stated? I think it could be so successful, that they could perhaps purpose build/modify a ship, for this large new market.

Maybe one of the smaller older ships. Would the dog's earn C&A status points?

What a despicable story, if indeed accurate. However, the OP does bring up a valid point. There is a disproportionate amount of pets being portrayed as service animals.

To all true individuals who so desperately need there service animals, this is a slap in the face. It undercuts, and diminishes the true need for these four legged caregivers.

The rules are getting too lax to really weed out those people who are to full of S*@t. Another sigh over political correctness. Don’t want to possibly offend a PHONY NARCISSISTIC idiot who does not come close to needing a S.A.

Unreal...

Royal Ships already consistently sail at average 104% capacity. At this point to increase revenue the only way your plan to work is if they charged for Dogs on ship's. You are right though ALL businesses care about profit...

The bold paragraph above, shows just some of the on-board income opportunities with a ship which is geared to pet travelers. Within the hospitality industry, is is an ever growing segment. You know, many pet parents consider the follow to be true: "pets are people too..."

We've been pet owners for decades...and are of the firm belief that that mindset only applies in one's own home.

Practices that directly impact others to agree or adjust to that elsewhere are highly intrusive at minimum.
