Say it ain't so! .....Love Celebrity and Bermuda/ New England cruises. Was just on the Summit 3 weeks ago, and although the ship is getting tired and in definite need of another refresh, she provides a cozy comfortable cruise atmosphere and experience. If it is true, hope Celebrity replaces her.

Summit, not by name but by description and photos, was listed for sale on a brokerage website. Listings are now more disguesed. I'll try to find a correct link.

Bottom line, summit may have been sold.

A couple of other listings could be millennium ships

We just booked a July 2018 Summit cruise to Bermuda.

I mentioned to the Celebrity representative who assisted me with the booking that there is speculation on Cruise Critic concerning that Celebrity may be taking Summit out of Bayonne.

He offered his opinion that another ship may replace Summit ,but that Celebrity would continue the Bermuda and Canada/New England cruises as they are so profitable.

Time will tell.

We look forward to the 2018 cruise.

IF Celebrity decide to leave Bayonne it will not be until 2019. I could see Lisa wanting to move to the Manhattan terminals to be able to more easily offer air/hotel package options that better fit with their brand positioning and to maybe capture a broader demographic then they currently are getting. I know MANY clients I work with who live on Long Island who refuse to cruise from Bayonne (The same can be said for folks from NJ preferring Bayonne over Manhattan to a lesser extent). Cruising from Manhattan puts them more in the "center" of things, with easy access to Manhattan hotels and all three airports. Personally I'd love to see a Solstice Class based from NYC year-round again, or even an Edge Class ship!

It says refurbished in 2015. I believe that's infinity, not Summit

Maybe they will move it to Baltimore. The Millennium was stationed there for a couple of years in the early 2000's before it was moved.

My DH and I would love to see a Celebrity ship in Baltimore! It costs us $50 in tolls (up and back) from SE Virginia. Plus Baltimore is only a 3 1/2 hour drive for us.

Probably not. I don't believe they can't get under the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

My DH and I are going to book the Summit July 8,2018 cruise to Bermuda from Bayonne in the next day or two.

Family members have already booked this cruise and we will be joining them.

Would Celebrity list cruises that would be cancelled next summer ?

Perhaps, it would be better to wait on an official announcement from Celebrity before conjecturing on CC.

Better to wait?....that might be the logical thing to do but CC is a message board....and that is part of what makes it

go......conjecture, rumor, "what if's"...........look at the amount of replies......it is part of the life of a message board.

Everybody should try to relax about this. Cape Liberty/Bayonne and the northeast market is very important to RCI, LTD. Celebrity will make ship homeport changes as Edge-Class starts to be introduced. That is what happened when RCCL introduced Q-Class and the Anthem as a brand new ship ended up with Bayonne as a homeport. Perhaps an S-Class or even an Edge-class will be eventually assigned to Bayonne. Let's just wait and see before everybody starts to change their reservations!

The Summit got a slight refurbishment in 2016. Some to suites and public areas got new carpet. Regular cabins, nothing. She was built in 2001.

Yes, she's listed as being upgraded in 2016 whereas Infinity is listed in 2015 which is what the ad states - both built in 2001.

That makes the most sense. Perhaps Celebrity will continue their long term practice of selling or moving older ships to Royal associated lines as the new ships come into service. Horizon, Zenith, Mercury, Galaxy and Century all found new "homes."

Whatever they decide I hope they decide in favor of something more than that ship's entire itinerary being either Bermuda or Leaf Peeping. People in the New York area don't need a cruise to see leaves changing color. LOL.

How about one or two longer ( 12-14 day ) cruises, let's say to the Caribbean, thrown in before the ship that is ported in Jersey begins its non-stop series of 7 day cruises to Bermuda.

AGAIN--NOT A DOZEN, not 10, not 7, not 5, not 3, (sounds like a RONCO infommercial) but just one or two for us North Easterners who love to head to the Caribbean when Winter is drawing to a close and would love to spend our time and money on a ship rather than in airports and hotels because we have to fly to Florida.

Just a thought and something Celebrity might want to ask a few hundred thousand of their past passengers on the East Coast, from Baltimore to Maine and up into Canada.

We've done the Caribbean from Jersey and NYC on Celebrity, Royal, and Holland a number of time in the past and didn't see many frowns on the ships even with the two days of weather change from cold to hot and the reverse. Maybe Celebrity could capture some of their past folks from NCL, which manages to do the Caribbean on a regular schedule.

I will get the same old reason, "CAN'T FILL THE SHIPS".. If Celebrity was to come out with a PRE BERMUDA sailing of whatever ship they schedule for the Bermuda season, to a speciaL "GOODBYE TO WINTER" cruise 0f 12-14 days I bet they would have no problen selling it out, even if the price was calculated for the additional fuel, and considering passengers would have more time on board to spend at bars, spas, specialty dining and casinos. For us a flight a day or two before and sometimes after a cruise from FLL is easily over $1,200.00.

Their parent company pulled out of NYC in 2004 or 2005, after NYC said they would not make improvements to the NY City terminals. They put all their money into Bayonne (Cape Liberty). Heck the terminal they built and parking garage is brand new. Why would Celebrity NOT want to use this?

Hopefully they are just thinking about switching ships. Summit has been there since 2011. Prior to that is was Constellation.

Celebrity right now seems to have no control over it's ports since LPP took over. Royal is her baby and she is making Celebrity a Royal product. Don't slam me for this post. I just think that Celebrity is being run completely by Royal right now and those of us who helped put Celebrity where they are have been pushed aside. Yes, bottom line is money but one day that will go away. So, that's why we have 3 cruises planned and will do them but after that, looking for another cruise line, smaller and more inclusive. We won't do the mega ships so that is limiting but we'll see. Bayonne is only 1 1/2 hrs. from us and made it so easy with health issues and flying. So, no more sea trips for us if they, do indeed, take the ships away. We were hoping that Celebrity might base 1 for the Caribbean in Bayonne but, like it has been said, nothing written in stone so we shall see.

Pat I agree that the Celebrity product is changing, but unfortunately all the mass market cruise lines have been.

Like you we do not want to have to fly to cruise. I would love more Celebrity ships out of Bayonne doing different itineraries. That 12 night Silhouette cruise in 2012 was great.

If that Silhouette cruise was its first to the Caribbean out of Jersey, we were on it as well. The lawn was covered in plastic to protect it and it WAS A GREAT CRUISE, even if our table in the MDR kept falling apart. lol

Yes it will, if the Millie was station there, they are the same size ship with different names, it can fit under the bridge.

Wonder about Solstice, they did something to the stack to get under the bridge in Vancouver.

I hope this rumor is just screwed up and it means Summit is leaving but being replaced by an S class ship.

Francis Scott Key Bridge has a clearance of 185 feet.

The M class ships have a height of 180 feet.

I wonder if tides would be a problem with only a 5 foot window ????

We have done many cruises out of Baltimore on both Celebrity and Royal, it being our second favorite port of departure after New York / New Jersey.

A bit of a drive and an occasional hotel stay but nothing on the expense or discomfort scale as flying. Lot of time wasted getting to the Atlantic but still would book cruises from there although we've done the same RC three times already.

I don't think Millie, or any M class ship sailed out of Baltimore. It was Mercury that sailed out of Baltimore.

To me, it doesn't make sense for Celebrity to pull out of Bayonne after the parent company made such a long term commitment. Also, someone mentioned that Long Islanders would rather drive to Manhattan then Bayonne. That may have been true when the Bayonne Bridge was being rebuilt, but not now. I would say that most here on the Island would do anything not to have to make that trip into Manhattan. The Belt & V Bridge are bad enough.

I think it is a good idea for cruise lines to mix up their ships. After a while, locals like a change of scenery; & while itineraries are fixed, a different ship would help avoid that feeling of same old, same old.

As Andy would say, we shall see!

I agree with your conclusion but your facts.... Bayonne Bridge is closed weekends for construction

Suggested route is LIE-BQE-Mamhattan Bridge - Holland Tunnel.

In general travel time from Long Island to Cape Liberty is similar to Manhattan cruise port.

Big difference is for pax who want to use mass transit. LIRR then taxi gets you to Manhattan port

No easy way from LI to Cape Liberty

I don't recall the M-Class ships homeported there, but I do remember the Century class Galaxy sailing from Balto.

When Celebrity brought Silhouette to NJ - they couldn't fill the ship for winter Caribbean itineraries. Prices were " give away". For 12 days in December we had AQ for $1200/pp, insides were around $800. I don't think they will repeat that lesson.

What do you think they are doing with Anthem. Cruises in December (other than Holidays) and January are dirt cheap. It's the nature of the beast. It's really only 2 months out of the year. My March 2012 cruise on Silhouette in an inside cabin for 2 people was $2,757.06. For this past January 2017 on Anthem, 12 nights balcony cabin on deck 12 was $2,245.42. Plus a 5 year difference.
