cruisingqueen86 Posted March 25, 2018 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2018 We are retired and usually book a cruise last minute (like a week before sailing). I noticed this year that the cruises out of NY are selling out much sooner than in the past. I think the prices are higher so cost doesn't to be the reason why they are selling out so early. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this. I was following the March 6, March 17 and March 27 trips and all were sold out. Just wondering:)

Oldgoat61 Posted March 25, 2018 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2018 I have noticed this as well, at least since last year. I'm sure this is across the board, no matter what ship, or port, unless it is not selling well.:(
cruisingqueen86 Posted March 25, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted March 25, 2018 I guess that's it, Hoping to sail on the Gem in May. Thanks:)
Gershep Posted March 25, 2018 #5 Share Posted March 25, 2018 I have also noticed that prices on last minute cruises were high or sold out. That said we were able to get a really good deal on the Gem in January three weeks out for the eleven night cruise.
cruisingqueen86 Posted March 25, 2018 Author #6 Share Posted March 25, 2018 That’s great. I hope you had a good cruise. I am still hoping to find a good price in the near future
jaja Posted March 25, 2018 #7 Share Posted March 25, 2018 I have also noticed that prices out of NYC are high !! I can only assume..it is what the market dictates. I only sale out of NYC..since I do not like flying..so I am usually stuck with high prices and lack of cabin choice or sold out cabin categories/cruises. :(
Budget Queen Posted March 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted March 25, 2018 Supply and demand. The NYC bargain sailing time is Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb. not now through Sept. Rates are going to be a lot higher- which is typical over many seasons. The Gem may have an occasional fire sale, since the Escape- may have a bigger drawer being new this season. It's extremely limiting to only consider this port, in my opinion. (can't imagine only those choices for my preferences). I've had great opportunities with the Dawn out of Boston- enjoying that the last few years on the price dump rack. The price drops have been happening a lot later in some cases. I late book all the time, and it's been only days prior on the last several cruises.
cruisingqueen86 Posted March 26, 2018 Author #9 Share Posted March 26, 2018 We got a great deal on the Gem last April on a 10 day cruise out of NY. It appears that they are not offering longer cruises after March this year. I assume they are catering to the spring breakers who usually want shorter trips. I guess we are going to have to pay more this year for April cruises. Thanks for your insight. wegot a great
Rare PTC DAWG Posted March 26, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 26, 2018 All the NY cruises seem HIGH to me....especially compared to the same length cruises leaving out of MIA. I guess folks like sailing 2 days in the cold...out of 7....
Carnac767 Posted March 26, 2018 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2018 The economy is doing well and cruising is very popular. When the economy tanks again, fewer people will be cruising and prices will fall. In 2009 the final price we paid for our Jade Med cruise had dropped nearly $3000 from when we booked. We were offered a GV at fire sale pricing.
roger001 Posted March 26, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 26, 2018 I just checked our next booked cruise. It has gone up $700 for two guests since we booked it. Mini suite on the Pearl.

I certainly do not like sailing in the cold out of NY but if I want to go, that's what I have to do. For that reason, I prefer a longer cruise. lamchops Posted March 26, 2018 #16 Share Posted March 26, 2018 I booked our 10 night October 2017 Spirit Mediterranean cruise this time last year for $1300cdn per person. The Spirit cruise this October is currently going for $2500cdn per for the same inside family. I find it hard to believe that the demand has risen that high. cruisingqueen86 Posted March 26, 2018 Author #17 Share Posted March 26, 2018 It seems like all the cruise prices have risen more than expected. I guess it could be the demand but the companies go with what the public will allow

I guess folks like sailing 2 days in the cold...out of 7.... On the other hand, flying to Florida and the price of the flight, hotel, and meals, increases the price even more. We did two early spring cruises out of N.Y. and N.J. and were on the pool deck the second day.

All the weeks you are looking at were heavy spring break weeks which likely explains why they were unavailable.

Otherwise I have no idea why they are selling out so quickly. Guess it is a better economy. the days of budget cruising by booking at the last minutes seems to be somewhat in the past. Rare Peachypooh Posted March 27, 2018 #22 Share Posted March 27, 2018 In the past when sailing with family we would make sure to get separte cabins. This way everyone has their own space, more bathrooms, etc. I don't think we can do that anymore. We will all have to double up next time. Not that big of a hardship but definitely not the most relaxing for us due to everyone likes to wake up at different times, etc.
Something fun! Posted March 27, 2018 #23 Share Posted March 27, 2018 NCL is also hammering the local markets with tv and radio advertisements. Almost daily I see or hear an NCL commercial advertising. That's not including their internet ads either.

Rare mking8288 Posted March 27, 2018 #25 Share Posted March 27, 2018 Timing - Breakaway doing 13 days T/A out of NYC to Southampton was available to book as low as $499 p/p on Insides 2 weeks ago + port taxes/fees/DSC, incidentals, etc. Prices since then, gone back up higher. Apparently, land-based casinos and NCL were partnering so this April's sailing were offering vouchers thru CAS, surely didn't hurt to entice and get the "players" onboard first. Our Roll Call slowly coming to life with more last minute booking and a long sign-up roster for the Slot Pulls ...
