Which 2 “free” items did/would you pick

Beverage Package is the only one of any real use to us. Since I'm easily pleased and already have more food than I could being to eat I can't see why I'd pay (tax and gratuity) for even more food. The port excursion credit doesn't work for me since we almost never take a ship sponsored excursion. So I reluctantly take the internet thing since I'll use it a bit if I have it (but wouldn't miss it at all if I didn't). Free gratuities would really ring my bell.

Which 2 of the free promo items did/would you pick?

Free 3 meals for 2

Free 250 WiFi min

$50 shire excursion credit per port

Taking a poll...

If one is even a moderate drinker to me there is no question: the UBP and the specialty dining. The other one, for those who do not drink or really don't care about experiencing up scale dining would be the excursion credit we hveno need to keep connected and love the idea of being able to enjoy food and booze the way we love but can't in our everyday life. Unlike most I would not take the drink package as it is really a ripoff. NCL has the highest package price and service fee of all the major lines.

orwegian: $106.80 per day, including gratuity

Celebrity: $74.75 per day, including gratuity

Princess: $68.99 per day, including gratuity

Royal Caribbean: $64.90 per day, including gratuity

Carnival: $59.74 per day, including gratuity

I would take none or maybe just the dinning package. The 250 minutes WiFi is not enough for me I need full cruise WiFi access, and the trips through NCL are overpriced.

So for the most part I just see these free offers as snake oil.

My husband doesn't drink but he and I could easily run up a $250 tab with my drinks and his sodas/virgin drinks so I felt like it was worth for our upcoming cruise. Also scored passengers 3 and 4 free AND free taxes and port fees for first 2 passengers.

Always the Dining Plan, and I don't drink and also don't want to pay the hefty service charge on the UBP so if I am planning to use the NCL excursions - which I usually do not because of the high prices I have been going with the WiFi lately.

Dining & Drinks! For those of you using this thread as yet another place to complain about the service charges... move along. Even with the service charges, these perks are still, by far, the best deal for me.

I could see people with kids always taking the 3rd & 4th guest free option. I would definitely look for that if I had kids.

Depends on what the offers are:

1. If we are travelling with family and 3rd/4th for Free are offered, we choose that with the dining package......

2. If travelling alone, we choose Dining Package first then UBP as second choice.

We always go for the Dining Package either way!! We don't use our phones on vacation, so the wifi is not attractive to us!

One more thought, if NCL is reading this (LOL).....we wish they would offer "Free Gratuities" like the other cruise lines offer at times. If NCL offered Free Grats we would definitely choose that as No. 1, then the dining package....wishful thinking I know!

They are not going to offer free Gratuities because they want to make money of the free item. The other free stuff they offer ready doesn't cost them and money out of pocket and makes more income. Even the dinner package adds tot he bottom line profit. But free gratuities would cost money so not a option.

We're sailing with a group (300+ people), and we had a fifth option of including all gratuities. We went with that since we'll only be on a short cruise so it didn't feel worth it to do the SDP and skip the free options. Also picked the UBP because they included the gratuities for that as a group perk. Technically, we could get on the boat, drink all we want, and pay $0. :D

In the past, NCL has offered waived DSC as one of the choices. It doesn't happen often, though.

I am currently trying to figure this out for myself and have until August 31st to decide.

Our options are the following (copy/pasted from our group coordinator's (aka my Uncle) email:

1. Unlimited beverage package

2. Free shore excursions

3. Free specialty dining

4. Free WiFi

5. Daily service charges included

I'm thinking daily service charges and wifi. I have an elderly dog at home who I don't like to leave and almost said no to going on the cruise because of that, but my husband will be staying home with her and I'll want to check in a few times a day to make sure she's okay.

These are very simple descriptions of each offer, lacking the "fine print" and details, so I'll have to look those up for more info.

I'm not a huge foodie so I don't really care about specialty dining, I don't plan to book any shore excursions, and I don't drink enough to make the UBP much of a deal (for me).

I believe you missed the point. OP was asking which two perks would you choose from the ones NCL is now offering.

By accepting the Ultimate Beverage Package perk, you don't have to pay the daily charge for alcohol. All you have to pay are the tips, or about $18/day. That's a lot, lot less than the daily charge you quoted.

Usually we take the beverage package and shore excursion credit.

I like the convenience of a ship excursion, and knowing that the ship will still be there if my NCL shore excursion runs late.

One time, I took both free offers that did not have any additional gratuity charge, since I had a drink card from Casinos at Sea. All the extra charges add up!

There is plenty of good food included in the cruise fare so no need for dining package unless you have never been to a Teppanyaki type restaurant and want to try it.

As mentioned on another thread, since I don't consider their drink package "free" because of the exhorbitant tips they tack on to your account, we picked WiFi and specialty dining (which for three restaurants was only $12 each one time fee). We didn't pick shore excursions because we are going to Bermuda and doing it on our own, but that might have come in handy at other ports where excursions are pricier.
