Error in Deluxe Beverage package pricing?

All the more reason for them to hire someone who can run a website.

Well to be clear (since I work in ecom)....IT would not have been responsible for that price.  A merchant on the business team would manage pricing.  IT just has to get called to fix it when they put in the wrong price and 1000 people buy it 😉

My friend works in the hospitality industry as a pricing agent. She said she once accidentally put $29 for rooms that were supposed to be $299. It was quickly caught and changed. Only a handful of people received the $29 rate before they made the corrected price. She said now they have checks in place to ensure that won’t happen. No relevance here except the fact that they could make the correction within minutes. By the way they honored the $29 price😜

When the alcohol package is less than the non-alcohol one, it should be a sign that something is wrong.  The cabana for $1,300 is accurate.  Ones we booked for $500 a long time ago are now available for close to that price.

All that being said, it is another sign that RC needs to hire better qualified IT staff to run their systems. They seem to be having different IT issues too frequently.

Edit to add:  RC’s pricing and fake sales are all so common how does anyone ever know if it really is or not.🤔

And @shelldigity

Exactly. People think differently - I’m sure there are some people that thought immediately it was a mistake, but there were also intelligent and frequent cruisers who did not see it as a mistake but as one of Royals wild price fluctuations. It would not be accurate to say that everyone should have known it was a mistake, particularly when it was up there for quite a long time unchanged. And to those feeling sorry for royal, I am having a hard time mustering up pity – I feel sorry for the person who made the mistake (if it was a mistake), but in a fight between David and Goliath I have to stand with for David.

I'm surprised they will not honor it. How many packages could they have sold? Would they really be out that much money?

Also wondering how hard it is for them to track down all the mispriced packages and cancel. So many times they are unable to correct straighforward mistakes, even when you tell them directly (personal experience).

My only real worry, if they cancel the sale, they won't refund the $100obc I used to cut the card charge even further.  Might have to battle to get it back. Or not.

We are worried about that also. Only time will tell.

More of a comment on their general website operations than this issue in particular.

We are D+ and always buy the package.  Totally worth it for us since we like drinks at the pool during the day, and we don't always go to the DL at night.  We like other lounges a lot, and don't like where the DL is on Harmony or Navigator, so don't go there at all.

We always buy as well.

They might have honored the original price if folks hadn't shared the glitch here and on FB

I avoided using my OBC for that very reason.

You know they aren't connected to Royal

Right, they're a travel agency. They're trying to downplay it because the anger won't just be at Royal Caribbean, it will also potentially be at any travel agents who have clients that booked the package. Especially if the agent told the customer about the deal.

I downplayed expectations to all my clients last night; telling them to expect it to be cancelled and refunded but if they were OK with the funds being on their credit card for 7-10 days to try their luck. I know of a few agents who called Royal to "confirm" it was a legit price and were telling their clients what the phone reps told them

We had to think about this, too for the very same reasons you mentioned.  At D+ we get plenty to drink - but fresh OJ, a pool drink; night cap, and coffees are a nice add-on for only $18/day.  So we do have the package in our paid cart - no cancellation this morning.  We have our confirmation.  This morning for our 11 day March Serenade cruise it is now listed in the cruise planner at $60 for Deluxe drink package and they added Voom!

I was just thinking - if this smart "IT" team tries to cancel everyone's purchased $18/day drink package, perhaps they may make it worse and cancel our reservations instead😫 I really DO believe anything can happen!  I advice this "IT" team to leave well enough alone and don't play with our cruise planners 😉

That would concern me as well.

No one pays that price, you and I both know that.

Considering the fact that perks are only for the first two guests per cabin, many people pay it. 😉

The point is, you made an untrue statement regarding the price of NCL's package.

Looked again and it still shows in my order details but doesn’t show up in my calendar under the cruise planer. Does that mean they haven’t canceled it?

A more general question. Should things like the drink package and the key show up in the calendar under cruise planner.I see them on my order history but nowhere else.  I really dislike the website. It is tricky for a first time to see things.

I sail NCL a lot and it is cheaper to buy a 2nd cabin then purchase the plan outright so I stand by original post.

Tell me though....how many times have you paid for it outright?

A friend just texted me these screen shots regarding a conversation about this at the official RCL FB site - FYI

This has been posted a 100 times on RCI's twitter page and they are still saying they are not going to honor it.

My question is Why didn't they IMMEDIATELY correct the price??

Right?  If nothing else they could have shut down the cruise planner, until they fixed it.  It was up for a good 8 hours with the wrong pricing.  Clearly they weren't in any hurry to correct it on their end.  They truly should chalk it up to a mistake, as they still aren't by any means losing money.  Their cruises alone are super overpriced, not to mention the cost they collected is equal to what NCL is always covering as the gratuity on their free packages.  Which kind of shows that offering the drink package still doesn't keep a cruise line from making money.

Not to mention the time on their end to cancel out and refund all the packages.  They can't really just cancel out everything bought yesterday, as other people still legitimately purchased other items as well.
