Just bought 100 shares today.  On the link above it notes that the OBC "cannot be used for casino credits/charges and gratuities charged to your onboard account."  I can understand the casino concern but wonder why the OBC can't be used for gratuities?

I have used it for the daily hotel service charge in the past.

That confused me too, but I think what they mean is that you can't use shareholder credit for casino charges and casino gratuities (basically, you can't use it for anything in the casino), not for the daily hotel service charge.  I had to read it several times.

Great investment even if you don't cruise more than once every year or two. OBC and nice dividends. We have the shares in the 401k. Bought them long ago and just let them ride.

Same here.  It's one of the few stocks that I told my broker to never sell.  Since I cruise 2-3 times a year, it's a great deal.  I hope to cruise more once I retire, providing I can afford it!

That’s  exactly what we are doing for our upcoming cruises.  Since it’s not a Collector cruise it is classified as two.

You can get $100 OBC or $250 for longer  cruises so check that out before deciding to book separate cruises instead of back to back.

As a buy and hold investor in excellent companies, "what goes down, will eventually go up".  Even in the severe downturn of 2008-2009 for cruise line stocks' prices, CCL dropped; RCI dropped even more.  I held on to CCL, but did sell my RCI on its way down.  But, when there was an up-tick, I bought more RCI than I had owned before just above their all time low.  I now ask myself:  "why didn't you buy more"?  I ought to have bought more CCL as well.

Unfortunately it’s classified as 2 separate cruises (2 booking numbers) so $100 for each.  We did one a couple years back they classified as a Collector cruise so $250.

Like you,  sometimes my crystal ball is not working so I miss some of these bargains.  But like you stated "what goes down, will eventually go up".   Have seen this happen many times with CCL stock and I'm still in.

Have saved lots of money over the years and happy to keep it.

My quick read from the earnings call: earnings were good. Sell off probably due to future outlook.

Global economy is a headwind. Capacity in the industry will grow 7% in 2020. CCL capacity will grow slightly less. Alaska was very profitable in 2019 but is over capacity for 2020 (Look for deals in Alaska next year. We will be.) New Costa Smerelda 5800 pax (?) Is "super efficient" look for more, larger ships.

I just sent my information off to Seattle today for our new CCL stock purchase.  Do they confirm with you that your information has been received?

Not normally.  I can see mine on my HAL statement (by looking at the OBC for each of us - one is higher than the other's by the stockholder credit amount).  You might have to call your TA to verify.

We use a TA for our HAL cruises.  However, I always handle the CCL Shareholder Benefit request myself via FAX.  In my request, I request an e-mail confirmation and have always received confirmation within a couple of days and sometimes within a few minutes.  So, if you want confirmation directly from HAL, be sure to request e-mail confirmation in your FAX.

If you supplied an email and asked for confirmation, then they normally do.

Cool - thanks!

Greetings,

I am a CCL shareholder and I have booked 2 cruises with 2 particular members of CCL, namely Princess C and HAL. We will sail in December, 2019, on Princess  and in June, 2020 on HAL. However, the results of my applications were very different: Princess has immediately approved my application for OBC and issued the OBC, while HAL has declined my application. HAL said that they will consider OBC  applications for the cruises sailing in June 2020 somewhere in March 2020, and they did not guarantee that such applications will be granted. When I asked them "why?", they said their policy for OBC for CCL shareholders is different of Princess policy.

Has some one been in same shoes/situation before?

Thanks, Doctor I

Have you made final payment for the HAL cruise yet?  Ours are never submitted until after final payment.  June 2020 is still a long time away which may be the reason.

Same thing happened to us . We will reapply  March 2020 .Our 18 day cruise is Nov 3 ,2020

FWIW this CCL stock is a screaming buy now ,at  the Sept 27th  closing price .Paying a 4.6%  dividend & the share holder benefit  is one of the best companies to own ,especially for any one sailing on Carnival corp 11 cruise lines

I just faxed my info on Thursday, Sept 26 for a January 2020 departure that I haven't made final payment for yet.  I haven't received a confirmation email yet but I did see the amount of OBC increase by $100 on my big box TA website.

Additionally, I have read here in the past that the CCL shareholder program has to technically be reauthorized each year and that is why they won't process requests that are too far out.  That is why I didn't request the OBC for my August 2020 cruise yet.  It can wait until next year.

Doctor I, I like vacation has explained your difference perfectly. Your Princess cruise is within the current approved period; your HAL cruise has not.
The stockholder meeting is held every April, and continuing the CCL stockholders' credit is approved then.

Dividend payments have been very consistent year after year. CCL is one stock I will not sell until my cruising days are over.

Princess used to allow you to book excursions pre-cruise and not have to pay for them until they were put on your onboard account. When they stopped, there were a lot of protests. So then they allowed you to use OBC in pre-cruise to pay for excursions. When there were still complaints about we should have OBC for owning the stock except you made us wait to get it, they modified their rules to allow you to get the stockholder OBC earlier. And that's where the difference came in.

I would like to thank all who have almost professionally addressed my concern about the difference between Princess and HAL policies to grant OBC for CCL shareholders.

However, I have some additional questions:

1) What is a probability that CCL board will not approve this special OBC for the shareholders for the period after after July 1, 2020?

2) A CCL shareholder must have no less than 100 shares to apply for OBC. May my OBC increase if I have a bigger # of CCL shares?

3) Is someone on this roll call is going to sail on Veendam from Venice to Jerusalem and back, starting on 09/22/2020? I have posted several messages on their roll call but haven't heard anything back.

Thanks, D.I

1. IMHO, highly unlikely that the program will cease to exist without negative fallout.

2.Shareholder benefit does not change if you hold a much larger position of CCL stock.  100 is minimum required.
