dancingfish Posted November 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted November 12, 2019 The ever important questions will there be a blow dryer and is there a coffee pot in the room?
Clarea Posted November 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted November 12, 2019 There is a blow dryer in every stateroom. There are coffee pots and kettles in suite staterooms. There are kettles in all staterooms on ships based in the UK and Australia.
dreamer976 Posted November 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted November 12, 2019 Might I suggest that you make sure that the blow dryer, which can be found in one of the vanity/desk drawers, is in working order as soon as you get to your stateroom. I once found out, the hard way, that mine did not. Called my stateroom attendant ASAP and he did bring a working one in about 15-20 minutes, as I sat there in my bathrobe w/wet hair 😳. stevea36 Posted November 12, 2019 #4 Share Posted November 12, 2019 I recommend that you bring a couple of strong rubber bands to keep the "on" switch pressed. Otherwise you have to constantly hold it in to use the dryer.

Blow Dryers, yes, but they are worthless. I always take my own dryer when I travel anywhere. The ones in the cabin and very small and very little power. Rare island lady Posted November 12, 2019 #6 Share Posted November 12, 2019 As Bob mentioned...if sailing out of the US...JS and up have a coffee pot. Hair dryers in the drawer in all cabins. IMHO...both are worthless. I bring my own hair dryer, and I take my reusable coffee mugs out to get morning coffee (fill a paper cup, dump in the mug). cb at sea Posted November 12, 2019 #7 Share Posted November 12, 2019 Ditto the hair dryer. You can order a whole POT of coffee from room service!

njkruzer Posted November 12, 2019 #11 Share Posted November 12, 2019 The hair dryer on our recent Anthem cruise was 1600 watts, 2 speeds if I recall. It worked. Yes mine at home is stronger but too heavy and big to pack. My travel one is no better. I haven't figured out the probem with holding the button on. My thumb wasn't doing anything else. One hand holds dryer and thumb on that hand pushes button. I've read the complaints for a long time and I must be missing something. There is a reason they provide one with the button as people leaving them on and walking away could be a problem. In a hotel recently plugged one in that had been left in the on position. Not good.
biomedbob Posted November 12, 2019 #12 Share Posted November 12, 2019 This is the biggest problem for a bald person non-coffee drinking being. Not going on a cruise for my hair do or my beverage perference!
BuckeyeMark Posted November 13, 2019 #13 Share Posted November 13, 2019 I'm on the Explorer next week ... prepare for posts of me making coffee in the room. Kettle. Fresh beans. Hand grinder. AeroPress. Amazing coffee without waiting for room service to bring me a thermos of hot water!

My hair is short, fine and a little on the thin side. If you have gobs of thick luxuriant hair, first of all, I am jealous and you WILL probably need to bring your own hair dryer ! 😉

shipgeeks Posted November 13, 2019 #16 Share Posted November 13, 2019 Long, very thick hair here; never pack my own dryer. And I will never tape or rubber-band the button down.
Tulsacoker Posted November 13, 2019 #17 Share Posted November 13, 2019 Short, curly and metal hair here; works fine in keeping it from rusting

You did well if it only took 20 minutes. On our last trip, the hair dryer died a few days in. With the help of our steward, another room attendant down the hall, a call to maintenance and another call to guest service, my wife got a replacement in "only" about an hour. I never thought that getting another hair dryer would be so complicated! She was not happy...but we still made it to the DL before happy hour ended. 😁
