Expectation of lower fares?

I just cancelled my march 15th cruise -- last week no cabins available, now (since the cancellation policy) a bunch have opened up.

I paid $2100 CDN for 2 in an obstructed, they want $4568 CDN for the same room now.  No logic in pricing...IMHO

It’s crazy.  We paid just over $1900 for the same room as you.  Tons of rooms now open. I’m going to start calling everyday and asking about a free upgrade.  No way they will ever sell those cabins.

Saved over $2500 last 3 weeks with existing bookings. Agree not there yet with the post 9/11-Anthrax scares. Back then got one 5n cruise for $9(plus $50 tax) and a 7n Cat B for $799, both Solo with no single supplement and still sailed with 15% cabins empty on newest/largest Royal ships

Were you able to get the cost back immediately or did you pay upfront and will use the FCC in 4-6 weeks (when given) on another cruise?

We dont want to cancel, but the cost for our cruise has significantly dropped.

You must wait for the FCC to be issued.  Royal does not give any money back immediately.  Even money that is refunded that wasn’t in penalty stage will still take 5-10 business days to go back to your card.

We’re booked on the April 4 sailing on Brilliance. We originally booked an interior cabin for $1100 total for 2 (spring break). On Friday I looked at the website and a balcony room was now less than that, so I called and sat on hold for 2.5 hours and they upgraded us to a spacious balcony for no additional cost.

My cruise (4/5) dropped by $3000. I want to call Royal and find out if they will honor the price drop. The ship was sold out about 3 weeks ago and now has openings across the board. I wonder if they will honor the price drop since I plan on cruising and not cancelling?

I’ve been closely watching the pricing not seeing any price drops! Actually the opposite. We have an 11 day planned for April I went to see what the same itinerary would cost if we were to cancel and rebook for next year! The price was Doubled! So if we took RC up on their new policy same itinerary same cabin category we’d be shelling out money..... plus lose the money paid for RC’s insurance!

i also noticed it seems our sailing in April has sold more cabins in last couple weeks.

Mine is not until November (Freedom out of SJU) and its slightly up than when we booked. Interestingly, they havent sold a single cabin in my category  except for mine and one other (when I look at the available cabins on a deck plan, all of them still show available). Optimistically waiting for prices to drop as we get a bit closer to sailing date.

I got a better cabin.

They wouldnt refund money, but you can get upgraded.

After about an hour and a half on the phone, I had the option of upgrading (for free) to either an owner's suite or a crown loft suite. I choose Owners since we have 2 little kids coming and space and balcony size are key. Whhooohoo!

Wow that's awesome.

I'm still jealous of the lady getting a d balcony for what I paid.

I bet you are excited.

We just saved $700 on our Anthem cruise in November this year out of Bayonne. With the health situation changing daily, it is hard to predict if we will be able to go, but at least we have a cheaper room while we wait to see what happens.  This is for a balcony room for two people.  It did take a long time to get a rep on the phone!

I've been checking our upcoming cruise, almost daily, and have noticed that prices are absolutely fluctuating. I can tell you that almost every category of stateroom is now available as well whereas there was close to nothing available even a few days ago.

I checked on the pricing for our June NE/Canada cruise for Aug or Sept just in case around found the prices slightly higher. Surprising that there are so many increases, but who knows how to predict this market as it’s outside anything most of us have experienced.

I keep checking our cruise that leaves in two weeks and so far I haven’t seen any price drops on it at all.   I was really surprised they haven’t adjusted pricing given the number of open rooms in all categories right now.  I was hoping for a cheap upgrade but it’s not looking very likely.

You may fall out of your chair, check the 04/05/20 Oasis and 04/05/20 Harmony. Harmony had balcony guarantee for $1111.18 for two last night when I checked. Oasis is $1122.52 right now for balcony guarantee.

Yes that's the cruise I am on (4/5) Harmony. I plan on checking again. I may get the Royal Loft suite by the time we are ready to set sail! The lady on the reservation line said the ship is not very full now...

The rep on the phone yesterday spilled the beans on how bad things were going yesterday alone. She was very overwhelmed with cancellations. She said not exaggerating that for every 2 bookings she had 8 cancellations. 8 out of 10 cancelled. Knowing how many calls that were taken just by our hold times it’s mind blowing the amount of cancellations that occurred yesterday alone.

Does anyone have experience getting a free upgrade in these circumstances with Casino royale bookings?

I called and got a price drop on my cruise that sailing 8/3 before this virus hit the fan. I assume I could also get a free upgrade if there are enough cancellations?

We had seen Just how cheap the harmony and symphony had gotten leaving either 4/4 or 4/5 as that is the start of our spring break.  On the Harmony I priced out two connecting inside staterooms for $2500 total!!   That is insane for spring break pricing.  The symphony was around $2500 for an inside cabin for four.  Typically that is around $4500 during spring break when I have priced it previously.  If we didn’t have airfare to Galveston I would switch from the Liberty.  I just cancelled pir 4/5 Liberty sailing, took the FCC and rebooked the same cruise.  we got an inside for 1512 for 4 for a 7 night spring break cruise on the Liberty with $175 OBC from the ta and 100 from stockholder credit, it’s 1237 for 4 people on a7 night spring break cruise!!!!!    For close in sailings it’s a fire sale.

I expect to see fares going up considerably for sailings later on within the time frame when people who cancelled these close in cruises have to book a new cruise with their FCC. This is how Royal will try to recoup their losses.
