Way to go unfortunately, doing the same at WJ. In the dining room I did eat the bread though after disinfecting my hands again.

 

I hope they will permanently get rid of the Physical Menu cards in addition and will replace it by QR codes.

I don't see that happening as not everyone has/uses a smartphone. Possibly RCG replacing the current menus with one time use paper menus.

Of course this is only your opinion as is mine. We are the others that don't use smart phones. Hence we'll let the RCG figure out the logistics if there is to be any changes in the MDR.

I refuse to carry my phone with me while on vacation. If that happens they can read me the menu.

Agree.  I put my cell phone in the safe on day 1 and do not take it out of the safe until the day we depart.

The world is changing and although it is good to completely shut off from the real world the digitalization almost forces us to think that we always be online, actually a bad thing.

 

Given that most people do constantly use their smartphone, I guess priniting some menus for 5-10% of passengers is a fair compromise and will do th job.

The WJ will be closed for during dinner hours - breakfast and lunch open.  Reservations are recommended but not required - walk-ins may be served if space allows. .

I have lived my life from my phone before covid. Covid just helped to push things forward and made life even more convenient than it was before. We used the app on Royal last cruise to book reservations for shows now this is even better. I would love to be able to book my dining reservation and place the order in advance then all you would have to do is arrive and be served. I know all of those who lock their phones in the safe upon boarding won't be as enthused with this new approach.

Personally, I embrace the new technology, and have been using it on land and sea, it does make our lives easier. 

 

There are a few that feel they are heavily plugged in during their normal lives and routines and want to completely disconnect while on a cruise.  Then there are the technology challenged who were never plugged in to begin with and have extreme difficulties with anything electronic. Then there are the money-conscious cruisers who remember a time when roaming charges were as much as a mortgage payment.

 

What we need is free onboard WiFi for all. 🤣😂 Seriously, if offered as a freebie (disguised, I guess, since we would probably end up with a slightly higher fare), I bet more people would have their phones on 24/7.  I wonder how much WiFi costs a ship anyway, anyone know?

For most women very few dresses, skirts, dress slacks have pockets so I always leave my phone in the cabin as I dont want to carry a purse on a cruise.

So I'll opt for single use paper menu or look at menu on my phone before I go to the dining room.

I rarely have breakfast or lunch in mdr so I sure hope I still walk up and order my omelet or whatever I desire that day as cruising is spoiling.

Yes, no pockets is a challenge.  What I do is carry either a small cross-body or a fashionable fanny pack that fits phone, make-up and more importantly, one I can dance with. 🤣 

 

Paper menus are fine as well but paper costs money and doesn't save trees.  Hopefully the WJ will still be open for breakfast and lunch.

I know my thoughts exactly about wasting paper.  I have no desire for a crossbody or fanniepack.   I usually have my seapass in my lanyard along with my cash for bartender tips and casino.   I'm sure we will all figure it out when the time comes.

All your cash fits in your lanyard?  I usually have a bunch of singles for the bartenders but they don't fit in my landyard.  Is there a landyard that can hold cash?  That would be great if someone could come up with a landyard that could fit seapass, cash, phone, lipstick, etc.  Should we patent it?  LOL

There is something traditional and satisfying looking at a hard menu, even a simple two pager, just like turning the newspaper or a magazine, that squinting on a smartphone can't replicate ( QR codes on the high seas, good luck with that, LOL.    )
