Love the movie Airplane.

It's a classic! 🙂

Morning everyone, but actually it’s afternoon already. Couldn’t sleep last night till 2am and woke to some sad news. My friend for over 62 years is in pan Florida hospital and the outlook for her is not good.  Another friend who is in Florida has a 59 year old daughter on life support in New Jersey.

And now for my conundrum. Several years ago, ingot Bells Palsy twice from flu shots spaced several years apart. As a result, I had difficulty closing my eye and had a gold weight surgically put into the eyelid to prevent cornea issues. I was told by 2 neurologists not to take flu, pneumonia, or shingles shots. Now, to the COVID vaccine . Both Phyzer and Moderna had people who got Bells Palsy during the trial. Both FDA and CDC are monitoring the vaccine for that side effect. My eye surgeon thinks I might get it again and require eye surgery again. We don’t know yet if this is a shot needed every year in which case I might need multiple eye surgeries. My NY neurologist won’t commit yet and my Philly neurologist says so far they haven’t found Bells Palsy to be a side effect and I should take the vaccine. I’ve decided to wait a bit to see if this is a side effect reported by FDA or CDC in the public receiving the shot.

DH will take the vaccine. My daughter took it yesterday and had no side effects. Her son had just a pain in his arm.

Thank you for listening.

Do any of your experts know of any side effects with the AstraZeneca vaccine? Perhaps that one just might be different enough. Not sure where it is in the approval process.

I will keep you on my care list, in hopes that there might be one for you. Not sure what I would do.

Yes! Always loved being on a sailboat, but NOTHING ever topped sailing on the Chesapeake during Commissioning week!

I suspect the Thunderbirds might also combine the three days.

All this talk of appliances makes me think it is in the air. My 4 year old kitchenaid dishwasher died this past summer. Replaced with a Bosch. A month ago  the freezer of my 3 year old GE Profile refrigerator stopped working properly and there was water constantly. Replacing with an LG. Have to wait until Feb 5th for delivery. My friend had a similar problem, she bought a Samsung and has to wait until April! Both of us are using coolers for ice, and no frozen foods.

Good morning, all! And it is a good morning here. The sun is out, and we haven’t seen much of it this winter. Well, I can thank my glasses for vision, now if I could only do the aviation part to somewhere with palm trees! I have no idea what’s for dinner tonight. As Gerry would say, I’ll have to explore the ice cave.

Not much planned, so I’ll spend some time going over my blog post and photos from last year. A year ago today we were in St. Lucia, for the first and possibly best beach day on the GWV. Happy Saturday, and I’ll leave you with a few pics from St. Lucia a year ago, plus the elevator mat of the day.

We arrived in torrential rain, and figured our beach day would be scrubbed. The sky cleared, and a rainbow shone over the harbour. (The rainbow posted upside down for some reason) We walked to the beach just beyond the airport, but not the end the taxis take people and had a glorious, relaxing day. The Amsterdam was berthed beside Freedom of the Seas, the first ship I ever cruised on. At sailaway, the lines of the two ships looked like a game of cats cradle!

I believe it.

Appliances seem to be in short supply.  When I wanted to get a freezer my local appliance store that I trust implicitly told me it would be at least 2 months.  They got 50 in and they were gone the same day.

I was able to get one from Costco, thankfully.  It was my first freezer ever.

It‘s saved a lot of trips to the grocery store.  One of our restaurant has had food truck sales from their supplier.  Larger volumes but it enabled them to keep their contract with their supplier during covid and they shared in the profits.

The food is really good quality so I’m glad I was able to get the freezer and support small business at the same time 🙂

It is different in that it uses two stands of DNA but I think that it too uses live vaccine.  That’s the issue for some is the live vaccine.

My friend who is immune compromised can’t take live viruses so he can’t get the pneumonia shot or covid.  He can get a flu shot which does not use live virus.

Things are complicated for some people for sure 😞

Good morning all!  A very welcome bright, sunny morning here in the PNW.

@mamaofamiI'm so sorry to hear about your friend and friend's daughter. 😞  As for your conundrum, I don't know what I would do either -- you're doing the right thing to ask your medical professionals.  Please let us know...

@Himselfprayers for a negative result!

Will jump in on the appliance discussion...we started buying Whirlpool ever since an appliance repair guy in the family highly recommended them.  Haven't been sorry since.

Reisling -- I don't like sweet wines either (and never drink dessert wines) but St. Michelle has a range from dry to sweet so I like their wine.  I love dry wine but unfortunately it can give me heartburn 😞  so I have to go more towards medium dry.

DH and I seem to have turned our family room into our game/play room lol.  We got puzzles and a game for Christmas so we have all of it set up there. It's wall to wall projects in progress.  😉  Well I was worried I wouldn't have enough to do this winter but between the puzzles, games, and 3 counted cross stitch projects, I guess I don't have to worry!

Stay well, wear your masks, and have a great day. 🙂

We have a Bosch dish washer that’s the best I’ve ever had.  Before the LG dryer, we had a Bosch dryer that was the worst. 🤷‍♀️

I second that.  My friend recommended the brand to me for a dishwasher (not for other appliances) and it’s the quietest dishwasher I’ve ever seen.  Love it.

Me too.  I just got the Bosch a couple of months ago because it was one of the top recommended dishwashers by Consumer Reports.  So glad I did.

Hope you get it by the date they told you.  When my range died in late September first I was told Nov 12, then Nov 19, Dec 10 and now Jan 28th.  And I wait.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily!

National Vision Day is significant for me. I'm battling uveitis the last 3 years, somewhat unsuccessfully. Unfortunately the treatments have caused a dense cataract which impairs my vision and it can't be removed until the condition settles down. I don't drive at night any more, and even in daytime it's getting iffy. But I can still see, so I'm grateful.

Great quote.

Interesting reading about appliances. I had 35+ year old ones in my house, until I redid my kitchen last spring. They don't make them to last like that any more! The remodel got caught in the lockdown, so the backsplash and painting still aren't done, but everything else is functional.

@Himself Praying for a good outcome!

@mamaofami Some say the incidence of Bell's Palsy with the vaccines is not higher than normal occurence, but it's early to know. Once more people are vaccinated maybe it'll be clearer.

@kazu No live virus in Pfizer or Moderna Covid vaccines. I'm watching closely as I'm immunosuppressed due to meds for my eyes.

Prayer for those in need and cheers to those celebrating. Stay safe and well all!

Really?  My friend who is undergoing chemo was told by his specialist that he could not get it because it had live virus.  Now, I am confused.  🤷‍♂️

Wow!  I am going to share what you said with his wife.  Thanks.

edited to say - I went looking and according to CDC there is no live virus - I’m sending that link to my friend.  Maybe she didn’t say it the right way but her DH can get the flu shot as there is no live vaccine but not the pneumonia.  Thank you 🙂❤️

To continue my Maasdam Jan 2020 travelogue from yesterday -

When the Maasdam left Phillip Island it sailed toward Burnie, Tasmania.  During the night I awoke to a funny smell in my cabin.  Not a strong smell and I could not identify it.  I thought maybe a cooking smell and I just went back to sleep. As it turned out, it was smoke from the bushfires.  In the morning Burnie was engulfed with smoke that had blown over from the mainland. You can barely make out the Maasdam in the picture below.

I had booked a private van tour to Cradle Mountain.  There was no smoke on my trip and the smoke blew out of Burnie before we returned later in the day.

And I saw my first wallaby while on this tour.  Pretty cute and he totally ignored the humans looking at him.

Third -- I love my Bosch dishwasher. So quiet!  Important for me as I sit at the kitchen table mostly when I'm on the computer working or researching trips.

There's a fine line between courage and foolishness.  Too bad it's not a fence.

Should be  a tall, brick fence.

Just quickly dropping in to tell my fellow Texans that the Texas Department of Health says there will be a major update tomorrow on the vaccination status map.  These new vaccines will be for those over 65 and those with select pre-existing conditions.  Check it tomorrow to see if your local pharmacy, hospital or clinic will be receiving their allotment and how much too!

Thank you Rich, Roy and the drinks ladies.  I so look forward to all the info from everyone.

A little friend on my walk around the golf course at the 16th tee.  Some mornings I've seen two.  Another sunny day now that the fog has burned off, just not very warm.

Since I missed making lasagna the other day, I'm going for a black bean themed dish today.

Now it's time to make a couple of new masks with inserted frames to give us a little easier breathing.  I knew all those old yogurt containers had a purpose....

Not Roy, but the Panama rolls are served on the dam ships when you are entering the Panama Canal.  They have a filling inside and are quite good. 😉   Ours had a creme & orange filling when we had them.

Here’s the recipe courtesy of Cc member insidethecabin -  https://www.theinsidecabin.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/Panama-Canal-roll-reciple045.pdf

Thanks -- sounds yummy!

Panama canal is on my "someday" list. Funny story:  On a trip I met a couple who told me that they have two bucket lists -- a "walking" list and a "walker" list. Obviously the walking list is what they want to do while still relatively fit, and the "walker" list being less strenuous, for later years.

I always planned on the Panama Canal being on my "walker" list as the main attraction (for me) is the canal itself.
