get rid of smoking in the casino

Since they are the ones with the most accurate numbers and demographics and they haven't made any changes it would lead me to conclude that they feel that they would not make up any loses by banning smoking. As in any business money talks and decisions are generally made based on which decision increases revenue the most.

This discussion seems to not be addressing the Covid issue with smoking. As I said in an earlier post, exhaling cigarette smoke is a strong more forceful exhale than regular normal respiration.

To assume Covid will not ever come on board a ship is just not possible even with all the testing and vaccinated on board. Why pose a risk to those people in the casino with people exhaling all that cigarette smoke which just may contain Covid virus? As someone mentioned above, this certainly is the opportunity for Royal to ban smoking in their casinos and state the reason is for Covid mitigation.

Believe me, I know as I was a heavy smoker for 35 years. Thankfully, I quit that nasty habit in 2005, cold turkey.

Congratulations.   I smoked for about 25 years myself and stopped 12 years ago today, of all days for this to come up. lol.   I saw it pop up in my memories on Facebook this morning.     I cant handle getting anywhere near the casino.  Good thing is, Im not a gambler.   Even though Celebrity casinos are smoke free, I just dont think RC is gonna change anytime soon.

These people who are responsible for making the health and safety decisions must not have had their thinking caps on. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that when someone exhales cigarette smoke, their exhale is much more forceful than a normal exhalation. Believe me, I know as I was a heavy smoker for 35 years. Thankfully, I quit that nasty habit in 2005, cold turkey.

So......if anyone who tested negative before embarking on the ship is actually infected but the test had a false negative result or the person did not have enough virual load AT THE TIME of the test to actually give a positive result, then that person will spew virus all over the place INDOORS in a casino, thus spreading their "gift" to others.

How can TPTB allow smoking INDOORS in casinos on the ships during a pandemic with a virus that spreads via airborne droplets and aerosols? Seriously, SMH.

Smoke kills the virus😉

i dont smoke but love to gamble it would be a dream if they banned smoking...

I'm sure there are many, like yourself, that think the same way.  All 86% of us. I can't believe that they are catering to the 14% of smokers and not to the 86% of non smokers.  Surely within the 86% I'm sure there are at least 14% or more that gamble and don't smoke and would come to the casino to gamble or gamble even more if there was no smoking allowed.

COVID would have been logical reason for Royal to stop smoking in the casino.  Unfortunately, they did not.  Because Royal let this chance pass, I have to agree with the brick wall comment.

Lol,ummm cancer should do it too right? Addiction is hard for people to just quit. Losing weight and exercise should also have been a logical reason for covid as well too. Dont see that on the news either.

Way back in 2003 Carnival Paradise was a completely smoke free, but as has been said before, the casino revenue was way less, so that went by the wayside. You couldn't bring any tobacco products on board at all.

Yes -- this is correct.  I can't tell you how pleasant it is to not to have to inhale secondary smoke while at the Casino.  If it works for Celebrity, it should work for other cruise lines as well.

I would probably spend a lot more time in the casino if they did. I’m sure I’m not their target market but you never know if I might become if they made it more pleasant for me to be there.

Happy 12th Smoke Free Anniversary. That is a great accomplishment.

You can call Celebrity Cruises or MSC Cruises, as they both have a non smoking casino.

You are wrong about MSC unless they made a recent change lots of smoking in the casino.

I honestly can’t stand smoking. But I love to gamble so I will deal. Kinda thinking this will be different on Freedom than Adventure. I am assuming the Casino will be a venue they let unvaccinated. That means masks for everyone unless eating or drinking. Doesn’t say anything about taking off to smoke? Either way I’m vaccinated and wearing a mask in the Casino. It might actually help with the horrible smoke smell!

Yes, you are probably right, but they haven't tested the no smoking in the casino in quite some time, and as others have said, smoking has gone down from prior years.  If they were to retest, they might find a different outcome -- especially after Covid.

Also the younger generation prefers the e-cigarettes. Those hardly smell at all. Not sure of the affects on bystanders? But definitely doesn’t make me disgusted.

True -- things are changing very rapidly.  The marketing and bean counters @RCI must be taking all this into consideration.

I don't mind the e-cigarettes as much, but some of the vapes turn my stomach a bit. Especially the cotton candy type ones. But at least those smells don't cling to everything like regular cigarette smoke.

My mom was a heavy smoker before it eventually killed her (at only 56 so I would quit if you are able!) but one of the worst smells I have ever smelled was holding my newborns after she held them and smelling that smell. Blech.

I couldn't agree more. I will take a smoldering cigarette over a vape anytime. Have you ever walked into a vape cloud? It's like someone spit on you.

I'm a nonsmoker and my only pet peeve about smoking in the casino is that smokers use it as a smoking lounge with a bar and just take up space and are not there to gamble.

This!

I'm also a non-smoker but grew up in a smoking family so it doesn't really bother me....heck, sometimes the smell is nostalgic....but it's annoying when I have to ask someone to move while thy are  sitting at slot machine, not gambling, puffing away.  Most of the time, they apologize and move but I've gotten the stink eye once or twice, especially when there is a group of 4 or 5 that have to move.

EDIT TO ADD: They should just convert the Diamond Lounge into a Smoking Lounge. That will free up the casino for non-smokers and alleviate the crowding in the DL. A two-fer-one.  🤣

Last cruise I couldn't even get near the bar because of all of the smokers sitting there. I basically walked to another bar and got drinks for myself and my wife and went back to the casino. I have also had the same issue having to ask someone to move. It's going to be 10x worse now if they are only using every other machine.

I'm the opposite. So far a vape has never triggered my asthma - with cigarettes it's just a matter of when if I don't remove myself. You'll only find me in the casino if the sailing happens to be light on smokers that night but I'm still rarely there more than 30 minutes.

I can understand that if you have asthma.

I don’t smoke (although I will very occasionally enjoy a high end cigar with bourbon).

I do gamble. I thoroughly enjoy no-limit hold ‘em and craps with a visit every once in a while to a blackjack table.

I do not, however have a problem with gambling in a smoking environment. I consider it to be just part of the experience of gambling…for me, smoking and gambling just sort of go together.

What I would really appreciate is RC lowering their house take a bit. Any serious gambler here will be familiar with the normal house take on various games and how much worse the house take is on cruise lines. The small and big blinds on poker are ridiculously high…so high that unless you are winning a decent sized pot every round or two you will watch your chips erode away quite quickly.

So…I end up not playing as much as I normally would (or, more likely not play at all) because I prefer to not see my bankroll disappear at such a quick pace. For me, as a gambler, the overly high house percentage on a cruise ship is a far worse problem than what I consider to be the normal casino atmosphere.
