I use kn95 in high density areas and multilayer medical surgical mask in low risk. Have been on long flight and had several trips to countries where masks have been required. no problems.

The kn95 is what I use too. We've cruised twice for a total of 30 days. We have driven 7000 miles touring the US and haven't gotten sick. I even wear one when I'm not traveling because I live in an area where I'm in the minority when I'm in public.

Some people I know make fun of me, yet all of them have had covid or know someone close to them that have had it. Those in my small world, however, remain Covid-free, so we will keep doing what we're doing.

It's not only Carnival. Although NCL is far from our favorite cruise line after 2 cruises with them, we found an itinerary (London, really Southampton to Reykhjavik with stops in Amsterdam, Brugge, 3 stops in Norway, and 3 in Iceland with an overnight in Reykjavic) too good to pass up. Plus it was not until 2023, so it gave us more hope things would be back to normal. So I started reading the NCL board. NCL just instituted a masking rule, and there is a real rebellion going on on that board.

Just off the Dawn and life onboard was much better than I expected.   They also provided kn95 masks at embarkation.   Not required to use on our sailing.

With HAL promotions with free booze and kids sail for $75, you’ll have the same people with the same reluctance to comply on the shorter HAL itineraries as well.

Maybe with the kid thing but the booze is not free.  I don’t think hal even says that anymore.  For me to have taken the have it all it would have cost and extra $1000 total for 2 weeks.  No thanks.

I agree, that’s the market HAL wants.

Of course the promotion costs extra, but once on board, many who have it expect to make the most of their 15 ‘free’ shots of booze a day if they want them or not. The concept that it’s more expensive than just buying what you would normally drink doesn’t occur to them.

Yes, and a foolish way to go, IMHO.
HAL ships don’t have the water slides, climbing walls,  and go-cart tracks that market expects on a cruise. Nor are they able to be reconfigured that way. HAL will come across to them as an overpriced, inferior wanna be to Carnival, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian. In the end they’ll turn off both the demographic they're trying to appeal to AND the one they already have. It will be the death of HAL, which may be the real plan.

In your post you said free booze.  It’s not free.  I think most people would get that and not be confused as you suggest. I highly doubt hal will have a huge influx of carnival cruisers anymore than carnival would get an influx up hal customers if they offered something that hal cruises value.  After being on one carnival cruise that was enough.  I can’t imagine there being anything that would entice me to do another one.

In this day & age of cruise lines being so scrupulous about the health of their passengers, I'm amazed that smoking is allowed anywhere on any cruise ship.

Does this mean they will start counting passenger daily calorie intake too?😛

- All guests are required to wear masks at all times when indoors, except when
eating or drinking or when in their own staterooms, or when outdoors if in
large gatherings & physical distancing can't be maintained. This includes prior
to being seated in dining venues & when dancing in lounges.
- Health experts recommend that you use higher-grade masks indoors that have
two or more layers, completely cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly against the
sides of the face and have a nose wire (such as surgical or KN95).
- Until further notice, there will be no smoking in the Casino

This policy doesn't look all that different to what it was before. Theoretically masks have been required when dancing in the lounge all along, in practice most people opted out. The big question is whether or not this will be enforced now.The KN95 appears to be a suggestion only. Interesting to see the difference in policy with Carnival and the outdoor mask policy, Are the HAL ships are less crowded right now than the Carnival ones? I haven't followed the Carnival boards closely at all.

No smoking in the casino is a huge plus, I would love to see that stick around post-covid.

Just off Nieuw Statnedam and must people were wearing masks, but not all.

Agree, and the casino was very smoky.  I couldn't understand why they didn't have to wear masks indoors in the casino, but the rest of us did.  Quite the contradiction, in my opinion.

Regarding N95 masks, those are intended for medical personnel bc they need to be fitted by a pro in order to wear snuggly. Daughter is RN & they are worn very tightly. She developed mouth sores, rash on her face. Leave them to hospital employees.
