Carnival changes announced today

From Cruise Hive posted today it announced that Carnival is banning smoking in the casino starting today through 1/31/22.   I hope the casino smoking ban carries through the Holland also and continues through February.  After reading about the smoke issues on the NS I am not looking forward to breathing smoke.  Other changes were kids 2 and above must be masked.  All guests must wear masks indoors and OUTDOORS, with exceptions....

That out door mask wearing will not go over very well imo . I can understand the requirement because of the  omnicon  variant spreading so rapidly in the states  . This then becomes another negative added to the list

We took our first Hal cruise (Eurodam) Dec 5-15 and there was no smoking in the Casino. I had thought there would be but was pleasantly surprised there was not. Maybe it is the case now?

HAL does not have smoking in the casinos where the two pianos are adjacent to the casino. Unfortunately somebody doesn't think smoke flows down, so smoking is still allowed in the newer Pinnacle class ships where those performers are just a stairway away. That stinks!

Agreed, I would expect Carnival to struggle with compliance.

It's not only Carnival. Although NCL is far from our favorite cruise line after 2 cruises with them, we found an itinerary (London, really Southampton to Reykhjavik with stops in Amsterdam, Brugge, 3 stops in Norway, and 3 in Iceland with an overnight in Reykjavic) too good to pass up. Plus it was not until 2023, so it gave us more hope things would be back to normal. So I started reading the NCL board. NCL just instituted a masking rule, and there is a real rebellion going on on that board.

Received this morning (12/19/21)

IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION
We are writing to share our updated COVID-19 protocols in response to the
Omicron variant. Full protocols & FAQ at: www.hollandamerica.com/travelwell
- All guests must have received their final dose of an approved COVID vaccine
at least 14 days prior to the start of their cruise. Boosters are highly
recommended at least seven days before embarkation for those eligible.

result taken within 2 days of embarkation at cruise check-in.
- All guests are required to wear masks at all times when indoors, except when

large gatherings & physical distancing can't be maintained. This includes prior
to being seated in dining venues & when dancing in lounges.
- Health experts recommend that you use higher-grade masks indoors that have
two or more layers, completely cover the nose and mouth, fit snugly against the
sides of the face and have a nose wire (such as surgical or KN95).
- Until further notice, there will be no smoking in the Casino

Maybe the last rule will stick!

Health experts don't want us to breath on our cruise.  Those masks sound really unpleasant.

It sounds like the indoor masking requirement has added dancing, but is it really any different aside from that than before? I hope they don't mean masks are required when seated in a dining or drinking venue at all times except when the actual act of eating and drinking? I did the Rotterdam TA and was fine with what we had to do there, but if you have to mask even when seated in the dining/drinking venues except when actually eating/drinking, that may prove to be too much for me. I definitely like the idea of no smoking in the casino and hope they make that permanent.

actually those masks are fine. Easy to breath, except for those that complain about mask use in general.

I actually prefer them. They have space between your face and the mask to breath in.

People should try them if they don't like wearing a cloth mask.

I use kn95 in high density areas and multilayer medical surgical mask in low risk. Have been on long flight and had several trips to countries where masks have been required. no problems.
