Slot Pull Ethical Question

The issue I had with our crazy slot pull stemmed around the latecomer changing everything that had been decided.  I don't like it when people steamroll others.

That sounds like an exception more than a rule. I think the OP was asking in the general sense without any monkeyshines.

I have never organized a slot pull but I have participated. It is a lot of work...on a recent cruise we had 25 people with 20.00 buy in... we finished with around $800.00 which had to be broken down and shared with exact change to all 25 people...that in itself is a mini nightmare but handled well by the organizer. All this work for just a few points...and someone would have a problem with that...ridiculous. That is the problem today...everybody seems to be seeking out ways to be butt hurt over issues which are not of their concern. By the way, the casino actually encourages these type events because it draws crowds and brings excitement into the room.

I do not think it is unethical at all. I am a member of at least 10 FB groups now with many of them having slot pulls organized. They do a lot of work, and it is fine, as long as it is listed in their rules when they post it.

I for one, do not find slot pulls fun, and do not participate. I tend to stay away from all the noise they create when in the casino... or wear my air pods.

My wife and I are avid travelers to Vegas and I participate in a very active Vegas forum and group slot pulls are commonplace.  However the 'rules are agreed to upfront and one of them states who will use their card.  It is agreed to by those who participate and I've only seen a few instances where they have changed but in the cases where they have all that have participated have agreed to the change or backed out.

I've zero issue with the person that organizes them receiving the points; in fact it is pretty much the norm.  If you have an issue with that setup, then don't participate.  Truth is unless there are a large number of people or each person has a high buy in the number of points you get for the effort is minimal.  Then again it's another reason for a good ole CC 'debate' (tongue in cheek of course).

Every one buys in for $20.  4 pulls at $5 each.  That's only 4 points your losing.

Let's say there is 50 people... That's 50x4=200 points.

I thought the points were per dollar, not per button-press?

So a $20 buy-in with 50 people would be $1000, so 1000 points, no?

My last few cruises have had 1-3 slot pulls organized, with at least one of them being a $100 buy-in. (Not sure how many people participated, because I don't gamble with anything other than the free $8 that Royal gives me each cruise.)

With the current casino offers, I think you get a free cruise at 1500 points... doesn't take many high-dollar slot pulls for the organizer to get a free cruise (or two!).

There was 50+  people in today's slot Tournament  Everyone got $14 back from their $20

DW enjoys slot pulls, so we have joined in several. I HELPED organize one a year or so pre shutdown, and when we were at the chosen machine the MAIN organizer, I believe in an effort to be ethical about it, asked if I would use my card.

Our numbers were somewhat like yours Molly, and the issue was the casino would not give us more than a couple of $1 bills.  We then went to customer service and they wouldn’t exchange for $1 either.

So the way I operate and since I was an organizer, after we ran out of $1s , I thought I would hit the quarter machine, and payout $10 and 16 quarters.  By then I thought this has already dragged on for too long so I just rounded up the payout to the next $5 increment and personally ate the multiple.  When the main organizer found out at the end, I think she said we would split the round-up cost.

At least in this case I think we were very ethical.

Also, DW likes the casino, I don’t partake.  I just watch her.  So whatever benefit from those slot pull spins I have no idea what they are, because that was the first and only time I ever placed my card in a gambling game.

Each point represents a $5 bet.

FWIW, the points grow if they decide to do another round

I think it’s 1 point for every $5 of play-through, so maybe 200 points on $1000 played ?

I’m a table player not a slots player so I could be wrong.  I WISH we got a point for every $5 wagered at a table game !

The problem with getting singles doesn't sound like the casino was supporting your pull🤔

I think they were supporting it, but said they were short on them, and could only provide something like 20 or 25.

So on our recent cruise in March, I brought 50 singles just in case the organizer would need them. But alas, didn’t need singles as we lost it all.

Yeah, I've only done one and found out afterwards that the organizers took all the points on their card, presumably with the knowledge and permission of the casino.

I had no problem with it - they did all the work - but there were those who were upset that it was not disclosed.

It’s 1 point for every $5 through so for a $20 slot pull it’s 4 points

FWIW, not uncommon for folks who organize shore excursions to get something back from the tour operator.😉

Is that unethical?

Of course that's unethical.  The ones that put no effort in are the ones that should get something not the one that actually worked at it.  I think you are falling behind on today's ethics rules!

If organizing a slot pull is THAT much work, there is already too much organization and too many rules for it to be fun anymore. Now, it's become a business.

And if you're doing it for fun only, then no need for anyone's card.

If another cruiser "organizes" something for the cruise, and they're going to be getting a benefit for doing so, they should disclose it up front.  I don't begrudge the person who is doing the work some benefit, as long as all parties are aware.

I joined in a few weeks ago- we hit big ($1500) in the middle so the organizer had to fill out tax paperwork.  All said and done I put it 20 - walked out with 50 but it was fun.  The organizer did get the tax amount off the final total before we split but I would rather let her have the points since she will have to figure out all the tax mess later.  Im not a big gambler so it was exciting to watch all the pulls with only 20 invested.
