At the moment masks are "recommended", but not mandatory.

As a side note we just got back from a cruise and all 3 of us caught Covid.  From the timing it's pretty much certain we got it either on board or on an excursion..... I feel like total crap and right now I'm kicking myself in the butt for not masking up when out in public.

Since masking is at present no longer required, our experience was that on the June 4 ‘22 sailing of Vista out of Galveston, very very few passengers are wearing masks.

Given our ages - 67 and 71 - and our belief that masks are helpful, we wore masks all the time, except when eating/drinking, and laying out on Serenity.  Everywhere else we were masked, and were pretty much the only ones we saw who did.

In our FB group of several hundred, based on self-reporting AFTER debarkation, about 10% have tested positive within a week after that cruise.  I myself came down with a nasty cold which I am still fighting, but have tested negative for CoVid 3 times in the 2 weeks since debarking.  My dh and I have had all 4 shots, and we always mask when leaving our house.  We did many crowd activities on the ship, and attend numerous crowd events on land in our daily lives since the major shutdown ended.  We have stayed healthy, except for the cold I am currently fighting.  We have been on 3 cruises since the startup, going on another in 3 weeks, and have 4 booked after that.  For us, we have our own personal mask mandate no matter what.  IMHO I don’t see Carnival bringing back a blanket mask rule because so many are opposed to it, but we’ll keep doing it.

I wasn't sure if you meant on the ships or in the cruise terminal?  We cruised in April and June.  Masks were not required on the ships or tenders at all (Mardi Gras and Radiance).

In regard to the terminals (both embarkation and debarkation) it seems to vary by state.  Not required in Florida, but I was surprised last week when we were required to wear masks in the terminal in California.  I haven't cruised out of Washington, but I live here and last I heard, masks are required in the terminal.

Sorry to those who got sick after cruising.

not sure what I would be comfortable with.   In my day to day life I don’t wear one anymore but not sure about the confines of a ship.

thank you all

Kim

We sailed out of Charleston in April. At the time, masks were required inside the cruise terminal only. We wore one inside the terminal, that was it. They did say they were required in Nassau. However, we went to Margaritaville as well as several stops along the way. Nowhere required a mask nor did you see them anywhere. While we were on our voyage, the policy to wear them in the terminal was dropped. From start to finish, the terminal at embarkation was the only place you saw a mask.

This month, we sailed on the Horizon out of Miami to Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. We saw a few people wearing a mask in the airport and on the plane but that was it. There were also a handful of people who wore one embarking but they were in the minority and it was very, very few. There were no masks anywhere on the islands. The workers on the ship wore one still.

The masks were dropped here at home May 2021 and life has pretty much gone back to normal.

On Pride now in the Baltic - definitely and older crowd than most Carnival cruises.

Around 5%-8% masked and that includes the full butterfly lounge during the comedy club.

In the Euro cities,  not sure anyone cares beyond Americans.

We came off the Valor Thur. No masks required on ship or in Costa Maya or Cozumel.

I don't wear one  day to day either.  Only if an establishment requests masks, like a doctor's office.

But on a cruise ship, I might in certain venues.  Caveat emptor.

Anyone over 65 or with pre-morbid/immune-compromised conditions should wear N-95 type masks when in close contact with others, even after being vaxxed and boosted. Not that those masks will 100% prevent you from catching a COVID variant, but will certainly help reduce your chances of catching it.

Anyone who is sneezing or coughing should also wear a mask around others, whether that sneeze or cough is allergies, summer cold, flu or COVID.  It will help reduce the spread.

Sorry you got sick and hope you feel better soon.

There are lots of folks that wear masks the entire cruise, except while eating, drinking and still get sick.

It's just no guarantee.

Just got off the Ecstacy today. The only place a mask was required on the cruise was on the bus from the cruise terminal in Progreso to the downtown dropoff. Carnival did put 2 mask in our room. People are no longer social distancing on the ship. The comedy club is packed. The Lido deck pool was packed with people as are elevators. It is an individual decision to wear a mask or avoid close quarters. Unfortunately, I saw people going to the bathroom and leaving without washing their hands. Fortunately, Carnival is continuing to clean much better than pre covid. Also the staff is very thin. Our room Stewart and team had 37 rooms.

We, too, got covid after cruising the Panorama earlier this month.  We had pretty minor symptoms though.  Hope you feel better soon!

The good news is we cruise again next Saturday on Mardi Gras and shouldn't have to worry about catching it again so soon after.

We are cruising on Magic on Tuesday.  Even though we are fully vaxed and boosted we will be wearing masks on the ship while indoors.  We have a balcony to "escape" to, and plan on finding loungers on the starboard and port sides midship, which sometimes aren't as crowded as those by the adult pool/lido pool/serenity areas.  As far as dining, we did not eat in the dining rooms on our January and Feb cruises, but masks were mandated then.  We may try the dining rooms this time around - still not sure.  I am sure we will be among the few wearing masks, but as covid cases are still pretty high in NYC we will do our own thing, hoping not to come down with covid during or after the cruise.

Caught a case last week, so now we are good for our next 3 cruises. Did  not get it on the first leg of the B2B. But did in the second.

As for masks on our cruises, I’d say it was south of 5%. If that high. And most were just cloth masks with peoples noses hanging out.

Last I knew, mask were mandatory inside the terminal.  Recommended, but not mandatory onboard.  My husband and I got it on our May cruise.  My cabin mate got it on our June cruise.  I'm pretty sure I got it in the casino in May and passed it onto my husband.  The June cruise on the Magic (never again) was so crowded, almost full capacity but short staffed (terrible combination) there was no way to avoid the crowds and the lines....

I've been watching/warning a few fb groups... only to have my warnings cast away as lies and ultimately dozens of passengers going home with covid.

We have cruises booked for October, November and February.  We are watching the situation day by day and hope that things turn around soon.... (I can dream, right?)

Anyway, if I were to get on a cruise ship right now.... I would definitely put on a mask where ever needed and carry my hand sanitizer again... and avoid the crowded elevators and crowded areas (casino) of the ship... it might give you a fighting chance...

Also... I am a firm believer in the power of Elderberry gummies...great immune boosters!!

Just returned from the Liberty. ALL of the crew wore masks. Optional for guests.

Yep...if masking is the answer, simply eliminate the allowance to sip -  and covid disappears lol.  Or follow the $$...and there's money in selling drinks.

I just got off the Carnival Splendor (Alaska cruise). Masks were only mandatory at the port of Seattle. On board, masks were not mandatory. There were 2 surgical masks left in the cabin and there were signs at the theater, the comedy club, and at the debarkation area warning that they were "crowded areas" and that "mask were strongly recommended". In reality, very few people wore masks despite people on this ship being in the older side. Crew wore masks all the time except during performances. Interestingly enough, when there was passenger participation on stage, they would put masks on. In the Alaska ports, masks were not mandatory anywhere. Occasionally there would be a store that would have signs saying that masks were mandatory but this was ignored and not enforced. Masks were not mandatory for passengers during excursions either, but guides and drivers would wear masks when in buses and indoors.  No experience with Canada (Victoria) as we were late out of Ketchikan so our boat just did a touch and go to comply with the Jones act (passengers were not allowed to disembark).

Cabins in the bow area of Level 1 were the Covid quarantine area. The doors in the corridor leading to those cabins were closed and occasionally you would see crew bringing food in paper plates and medical personnel with thermometers.

Sorry for the people that got sick. I hope it's not serious and that they recover fast. Personally, I have a rule of never taking elevators in cruises (need to burn those ice cream calories) and I trusted my instincts on when to use masks. I'm feeling healthy and tested negative even though my tracing app gave me a "close encounter" with a person that tested positive for Covid in the last two days of the cruise.
