Which senior Princess executive made the decision to CARNIVALIZE Princess?

Which one of those senior Princess executives and leaders on the list made the decision to CARNIVALIZE Princess.  Just got off the Discovery (Discovery from he@@) with almost 700 kids.  Tripping people, all over the adult only areas (we tried to complain but were told staff was overwhelmed with the number of kids and couldnt do anything)  SO MUCH for there being separation between Carnival and Princess.  I have been sailing with Princess for decades...this was the first time I nearly lost my MIND over the changes.   I get that you are 30BILLION in debt.  but come on.  Figure out a different model that allows for middle age adults to cruise without the insanity of what is supposed to be Carnival.    I have 5 more cruises all over the world booked on princess, including the new SUN.  None of them, however, cannot be canceled.  For whomever on the list of execs is pushing for "fill the ships 3 and 4 bed in the room no matter what:"  PLEASE fire them and get back to the sanity that was Princess.  🙂

I'm sorry to hear this.  I'm scheduled on Discovery in April.  First time back on Princess since last April.  I sure hope what you experienced doesn't repeat itself.

I think the user's concerns are legitimate, but I'm thinking they likely cruised one of the 4-day/5-day jaunts, which are known to be much more packed, especially with kids and/or new cruisers. A regular 7-day shouldn't be any more different than what you'd have expected in the pre-pandemic times in terms of crowds. Hope you still have a great cruise.

Did you just get off a cruise last week? I know there are some areas that have winter break and that may have been why there were so many kids. I agree with another poster that if want less kids on your sailing than you should try 10 day or longer cruises or times when school is in session.

We’re on Discovery on the 15th - we’ll try to keep our 6 yo. reined in!  😉

Honestly though - I really don’t get the poster’s complaint.  I haven’t seen anything from Princess which has implied a greater push for kids.  Princess’s ships are not designed for kids, onboard activities are still essentially the same, no changes in dining.   The other lines are running family oriented promotions, which Princess has not really copied.

Princess not clamping down on improper behavior (use of adult only areas) is a shame. But otherwise, blame the parents.  Kids behaving badly is really the parents fault.

we happen to be middle aged with an 11 yo child... We are not going to leave him behind and we enjoy cruising with him. He's been cruising on Princess since he was 4 and will continue cruising...

You’d expect this kind of cane-shaking behaviour on the Celebrity ships that have actual lawns.

Historically, Princess, across the fleet and across the year, has sailed around 115-120% of lower-berth capacity, so there have always been young butts in berths, and a lot of them.  Further, Princess has either a stated or unstated policy to avoid employee conflict with guests over adults-only areas aside from the casino and nightclub. It’s been that way since well before Carnival Corporation came along.

Not intending to be an apologist for children who behave badly.

Unfortunately, there is an Adderall shortage in the US now. Many kids normally on medication are not getting their regular full dose. I can quickly tell when my grandson is off medication.

It's tragic to see parents trying everything to compensate for the missing medicine and nothing works.

Yep, it looks like you had some unfortunate timing with Winter break/holiday. I have not experienced an increase in kids on board on my sailings. In fact the rare kids I saw was enough to catch my eye, as it was unusual.

I wonder if you could have had some kind of special group on board as well?

Maybe you should look at the your cruise planning and would getter results when schools are in session without long holiday weekends.

Hint during holidays lots of kids on board.

On longer cruises and not during holidays fewer kids on board

Kind of like the difference of doing a cruise during July in the Med vs one in September.

I agree. I was on this cruise - a five day r/t out of LA when kids were out of school- what would a person expect? I was also the 4 day 80s theme that preceded it and the 7 day cruise that followed it. All three had different vibes. All three were great cruises!

I have heard so many people doing the homeschooling thing so kids can travel at any time.

Maybe but I have not seen any Princess cruises that were not during school holiday periods that had a lot of kids on board.  Usually see 10-20.  Pretty unusual for it to get above 40.

On the other hand during the summer, during holiday periods or short cruises over a long weekend, pretty normal to expect the number to be in the hundreds.

We got off  an RCCL ship last week with 600+ 12-17 yo teens onboard. Heaven only knows how many <12 yo kids (1000 to 1500?). It was winter break and since most of the country's schools have a winter break that coincides with President's Day. It is not suprising that there was significantly more kids that particular week.

I’m not sure, but didn’t princess have a kids sail free promotion?  That said, I’ve only had one Princess cruise where children were behaving badly and yes, that is the parents fault.

I would think that the overabundance of kids was due to the fact that most of the SoCal schools had 4 day weekends over Valentines and Presidents day.

To bend the topic around a little, I NEVER had Valentine's Day off when I was in school (unless, of course, it was a weekend). It was a good day for conversation hearts, chocolate, and cards. 🙂

More about the 80s themed cruise please! Pretty please? With sugar on top?🍭

We generally go on longer cruises 8+ days so the number of kids aboard has been very small since cruising started again.  We are going on a 7 day cruise the first of April and expect more kids aboard.  Since Princess is more tuned to the older group and doesn't have the kid attractions like water slides etc., I don't really expect a large number of kids aboard even though it is spring break in many areas.  We really do not mind having kids around as long as they are behaving and not making a scene.

We have been on other cruise lines where one time we had 600+ aboard and never found them to be an annoyance.  Sure they were everywhere as expected and tended to gang together in groups of 4 to 8 or so.  They were having fun and we were having fun sometimes just watching them.  We may be old senior members but still remember when we were young and do enjoy seeing them.

I’ll be on the same Ruby 7 day as you coming up. Being in my early twenties, I have a sneaking suspicion that I will feel like a kid once I’m onboard 🤣
