Check your safe before disembarking - I found someone's stuff

We just got off the Discovery - April 15 - 22nd.  Last night we were packing up and I took the stuff out of the safe and along the edge of the safe, hidden from view I found two items.  I contacted guest services and they send someone up to get the items and take pictures.

I told them to contact the previous occupants, but he said he would turn it over to lost and found - don't know if they would bother to try to contact the past occupants, I hope so.

I don't want to say what it is, so the real owner can identify what they lost - I did take a picture.

As a side note, this was one of the worst 7 days of cruising that we have had in the 14 cruises with Princess.  The ship was at full capacity, rude people, slow service in the MDR and this was a casino slot tournament cruise, so the casino was full all the time.

We only ate in the MDR three times.  First on embarkation we always go to the dining room for lunch.  2nd was breakfast (took an hour to get food (cold).  3rd was dinner and it was slow and again items were cold.  We did not go back.  We ate in GiGi's twice and it was excellent.

We did enjoy have the gelato ice cream - we tried the new desserts with the plus package once, but prefered getting just the gelato.

I was on the sold out Halloween cruise, not fun, lines everywhere, half an hour to get a hot dog, impossible wait at Alfredos and couldn't even find a seat for a pre dinner drink at Crooner's.  Thank God I had club class so did not have to wait to get into the dining room.

Is it just the Discovery?  She's spanking brand new.  Wi-Fi is one of the worst in the fleet (and home ported in LA with Coastals and Mexico).  It is the ports that attract these passengers?  I've not heard glowing reports since her inaugural debacle.  I am not a fan of the Royal Class ships...so won't be on the Discovery either.

Once I found a set of keys in our safe aboard the ship and I took them to the Passengers Desk to turn them in. I was told "Thank you" and I started to leave. I then realized that since I did not have my medallion with me, the folks  could not know which cabin I was in so could not contact the previous occupants. I asked and was told that they did not try to contact them and would respond to a query, if one came 😞

Just another example of customer disservice as it would be easy if they knew your cabin number to find out who the previous occupants were. 😒

I would put that info on the previous roll call, just before your cruise, on the Discovery.  Maybe someone there would respond.

It’s a shame they just put it in lost and found.

Too bad.  They may of not even realized where they left their keys.

We are on Emerald next.  We will not return to Discovery unless they change the itinerary  When we completed our evaluation I asked them to bring back the Alaska cruise round trip out of LA, we were going to do that, then covid hit and they have not put that back on their list of cruises.

We had several unique itineraries booked before covid, and Princess has not brought back any of them.  I guess they wouldn't fill up the ships with young people looking for overworked itineraries to islands.  My last Discovery cruise, I had club class, so we avoided the MDR mess, but so many other little things went wrong.  In that vein, I guess customer service has degraded to not telling you they found your stuff.  This is the new Princess.  My FCC is nearly spent.

Ships sailed full when Princess did round trips to Alaska from LA.  To me….no brainer.  But I don’t make these decisions.

I was on this Discovery cruise and thought it was a great cruise! I won the tournament 😉

If I had won the $50,000 I would be saying it was a great cruise.  I only won $250

Great advice to always check the safe and lift up the liner… on a recent  cruse I found someone photos under the liner.

And not exactly IN the safe but on the shelf right under it someone had left a shelf full of clothing, some with tags still on and one of the pockets had cash in it.

all items and cash where turned in of course, but it’s a good reminder to always check the safe and closet before you leave.

My husband left behind his keyless key fob once. It must have been wedged out of sight. Despite contacting lost and found multiple times and it being a unique brand, it was never recovered, which turned into an expensive mistake. The good news is we now put all items into an organizer and then into the safe!

We joke that the staff must have a mini museum of lost items somewhere.

Curious, does everyone use the safe? Dozen plus cruises and we have never used it. We dont travel with expensive jewelery but we have the normal passports, electronics, extra cash, credit cards, etc. We have never had anything 'disappear'....have we just been lucky? I figure nobody should really be accessing our stateroom other than the room steward.

I don't know of any statistics about things "disappearing" from cabins but I suspect that genuine disappearances from a cabin are few and far between.

I have read reports of passengers claiming that they have had items taken from their cabin but I don't know if they have ever been substantiated.

It is always possible that when a cabin steward is cleaning and he/she leaves the open while they get supplies that somebody walking past could nip in and help themselves

On discovery now and so disappointed. Main dining room food took 90 minutes from order to table and was disgusting. I ordered yankee pot roast with teeny tiny squares of beef and a can of peas and carrots dumped on top. Never going back and will do buffet from now on!  We found a dirty glass in a drawer and my daughters next door found clothing in one of the drawers. And I have a collection of all the Princess ships we’ve cruised on my mantle but they don’t have a small replica of the Discovery. But, this is the 80’s themed cruise and the music, games, trivia and movies such as Airplane are fabulous. Glad my next two cruises are on Royal and Emerald.

What has this to do with checking  the safe before disembarking?

We've been on Discovery a few times and always had a great voyage. We were on the inaugural too, and loved it. We didn't experience anything bad.
