Would my companion be allowed into Diamond + Lounge with me?

Recommended Posts

Things have changed since COVID. The Concierge lounge on some ships is no longer open to Pinacles. The lounges are pretty small. They are not worried about unauthorized folks drinking or eating for free. They simply do not want unauthorized folks taking up room.  Every cruise we have been on since the Pandemic the Concierge announces that unauthorized folks have to leave. They will and do check . Why fight for a seat in a very crowded tiny space when you can easily get a spot in your favorite bar? You get the same benefit everywhere.

Maybe it's the double pts promo, more diamonds. Just more crowded lounges. We had a lot of pinnacles in our lounge on allure, better view. Often hard to find a seat during happy hour un,ess I went early. The diamond guy was going around asking people to share tables.

I traveled with a diamond in the same cabin and abided by the rules, and now that there are even more diamonds and up, I'm for enforcing the rules so the rest of us can sit. Where would you stop, what is a friend, in your cabin, connecting cabins. What would be the def of a friend of the rules bent.

Four non Diamond and invited in?  Wow. No wonder folks complain. The Diamond   lounge is for D, D+ and on many ships Pinnacle as well. If non D family and  friends are invited in (and for the life of me I don’t know why they would be)  no wonder there is no space or an overworked concierge  for those who have earned the privilege.

BTW-if I somehow got non D invited in, I certainly would not mention it on social media. I would be embarrassed.

They will add a coffee voucher as they do on some sailings already

I like the idea of a coffee voucher to be able to use anywhere on the ship - in addition to the drink vouchers in lieu of the coffee machine access..

Allure still has the Best DL of the fleet..

I think that’s a bit of a reach. Don’t let it ruin your day!

I agree, plus the word "illegal" is way out of proportion to the severity of what we are discussing. Against policy is about the strongest wording that comes to mind.

I'm a 2-3 drinks max in the evening type of person, including a glass of wine at dinner.  I love to use my vouchers for a chai tea latte at the coffee venues (except for branded Starbucks).

HINT:  on the Anthem, Deck 4, La Patesserie is mobbed in the morning for coffee.  However, if you go up one deck to Cafe 270 on Deck 5, they serve the same coffee products, and there are usually very few people in there in the mornings.  The chai tea lattes are wonderful, too!

No concierge would send out a letter like that, let alone send four extra kids keys to be used for cocktails in the diamond lounge.  This sailing was when?

I  blanked out the concierge  name because  of the poor grammar
I think the sail date was 12th May 2019 on Oasis of the Seas in the Mediterranean , but  I will have find old photos  to be completely  certain

Yeah, I think it's a phoney letter someone wrote to themselves to gain attention. Unfortunately, spelling was not their best subject in school. With the spelling and grammar errors, it's obviously fake.

Believe  what you want.

We received  the letter from the diamond  concierge and the four key cards.

Due to being widowed it’s some years since I’ve sailed on Royal. With my late husband we were Diamond Plus status. If a friend or my Goddaughter cruised with me now would she be able to come into the Diamond Plus lounge with me?  I can’t find an answer to this on the RCCI website.
Thanks for any replies.

No since they didn't earn it. The lounge gets crowded as it is. I can't imagine if everyone was allowed to bring someone in. You will get 5 d+ drink vouchers to use in any bar or MDR at anytime since the lounge doesn't have free drinks anymore.

Why did they give you a letter?  Did he/she see you and say, “hey, would you like access for four others” , or did you ask for a favor. If it was around 2019 then the access was worth a great deal. It was pre daily drinks  so 4 people drinking complimentary cocktails for several hours each night. I hope you “thanked” ($$$)  him/her appropriately g for  putting their job at risk.

I stand by my original comment that if you did get access, (and I don’t why  you did) best not to boast about it on social media

...Chances are you could swipe your card to enter the Diamond Lounge and your companion could enter with you although it’s technically not allowed.

What if they're caught? I'd be so embarrassed since I know it's not allowed. Someone who is d+ can't plead ignorance. Also, do you think its fair to others who have earned it?

I agree. Sometimes there’s someone checking at the door during happy hour, but I’ve never had anyone ask to see my status while in the DL.

I have seen this happen a couple of times. We have had ours checked on a ship or two.

I’m the rebel D+ and took my sister in the lounge with me when she sailed with me. She doesn’t drink and I had the refreshment package. Never had an issue with the server. No one asked, and no one cared. We played cards and had some snacks since we like to eat dinner late.

She possibly took up a seat that should have been for someone who earned it. Rebel? I think it's more of me, me, me and the rules don't apply to me.

It's exactly this kind of abuse of privileges that will eventually cause the loss of the Diamond lounge.

Totally agree. It's also adds to the over crowding sometimes.

There are lots of people in the DL (w/ free vouchers) that didn't "earn" it.  Should all those with inherited status be banned from the DL?

P.S.  I agree that if your not entitled (via earned or inherited status), you should not tag along to the lounge with another entitled member.

That is one of Royal's rules so that's allowed. Btw, they did earn it because it's allowed.

That would be a very good idea , provided they are unlimited free specialty coffees .

Then they could use the diamond lounge space for some revenue generating venue.

Maybe another smoke free casino ?

Your travel companion that is in your stateroom and presides over your movement about a ship is considered your travel “guardian”. You may file a well deserved case if they are denied responsibility even temporarily for your movements. Such as the diamond lounge. As your “guardian” they are qualified to your rights on board.

If you have a an accessibility issue recognized internationally, (bahamas, Panama & US) in other words ADA, and your travel partner is your “guardian” they cannot be denied access whether they are Diamond or not. LAW.

Nope,  ADA does not apply outside the USA.

I don’t know why someone brought up the ADA. The question was about bringing a friend into the Diamond Lounge . However the ADA does apply to accessibility standards for cruise ships that use US ports.

What you are calling a guardian is called a caregiver. Caregivers are not guaranteed admission to venues and events under the ADA. That is something that a business can consider on a case by case basis. It is called reasonable accommodation. If someone going on a cruise needs a caregiver they would have declare that and the cruise line most likely won’t allow that passenger that needs a caregiver to board. They don’t have to.
