Good Afternoon from London.

Happy Juneteenth.  Here in the UK it is not a holiday.

I thought I would be out and about today but we are both just bone tired.  I took a nap yesterday afternoon for 2 1/2 hours and then slept 12 hours last night and I could go back to bed now and sleep some more.

We are going to get our wine today and that’s about it. Just trying to get in gear.

Tomorrow we will spend the day out and about.

Prayers for all.

Terri

I bet you’re more tired due to the stress and not just time difference. It will help if you can get out a little and see some sunshine to reset your body clock.

Good morning from a very humid central Texas. It is 79F and feels like 87F.  The dew point is 78F and the humidity is 99%.  The high to day is predicted to be 103F, but the heat index will be higher.  There is an excessive heat warning with the heat index between 110 and 120F from noon until 6pm tomorrow.  I'll get my exercise cleaning house instead of walking today.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, Ren and the Jags are lucky to be playing this morning.  Frisco is a little cooler at 75F now with 79% humidity and a dew point of 69F.  It will be 97F this afternoon, but will feel hotter.  Wishing Ren and the Jags a good, safe game and win this morning.

When I was growing up in west Texas, Juneteenth was a big day in the African American community, and my parents told me the history of the day.

I'll pass on national martini day, but will celebrate all the pets in film.  We don't have cats now, but when we did, our cats would hang out in our home office.  One in particular liked to "help".

The George Eliot quote is very true.

True Texas chili does not have beans, but I like beans in my chili, and I also prefer it with beef too.  The drink sounds good, and I'd like to try the wine.

The Metropolitan Police also got the name Bobbies from Sir Robert Peel.

We have not been to Puerto Madryn, so thank you Nancy @ottahand7 for your pictures.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, I hope you get more rest today, and can enjoy London tomorrow.

@smitty34877  Terry, I hope the oncologist visit for your DH goes well.  I'm glad your DD is going with you today.

@cruising sisterLorraine, I'm sorry the kids lost out on the house.  I know they must be very disappointed.

Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work. And thank you everyone for being here!

They are predicting a week of rain so I am not sure how much progress can be made with the house painting. Interesting turn with choosing the new color. Sue has a good sense of color and had chosen a color that was slightly darker with less yellow. Sampled it on one of our peaks, but it just wasn't quite right. Back and forth conversation with the painter and he said that he would get the next shade darker but also get a sample of what he thought. He put the two colors up but didn't tell us which was which. We actually really liked his sample which he had added a bit of brown and changed the trim to white with a bit of black. I guess that is why he is the pro!

Stay Safe!

Congratulations to Ren and his team.

Go Ren,good luck for tomorrow's game.

Thanks once again Graham for your support.  I haven't heard much about the game except for this - there was no scoring at all until the final 7 minutes of the game.  St. Louis City scored first, and Colton tied it up in the final minute of the game with a header into the net.  The crowd went wild!  Then since it was tied and this is a tournament they had to resort to penalty kicks to determine a winner.  There have been quite a few matches that tied and had to be decided by the penalty kicks.  Obviously the defense on both sides was working hard to protect their goals if they went so long without scoring.

Coincidentally, #1 FC Dallas lost their game yesterday on penalty kicks, so the Jaguars will not be playing against them tomorrow.  That would have been something since that will be Ren's new team next month!  Losing teams continue playing in a Showcase where scouts are on hand to watch for new players they think have talent.

@Cruzin Terri, so glad your clothes joined you in London.Enjoy your cruise!

Today we are meeting with the oncologist  and DD will come with us.She and DSIL have been so helpful helping us negotiate the medical industrial complex.

I hope everything goes as planned today at the doctor visit Terry.  And thank you for your interest in tomorrow's game with all that's on your mind.   Nice that DD and DSIL can help make things easier for you two.

Good morning,

I have grandkids again today as their preschool is closed for Juneteenth. DGS is still sleeping so I am enjoying the peace and quiet. Unfortunately the kids lost out on the house. The other party had an all cash offer. I think they will take a break from looking.

I like the quote today and feel it is pretty much what I do each day. I have been to todays port but can’t find the pictures. No on food and drink.

Prayers to all in need and have a great day.

Have fun with the kiddos Lorraine.  I'm sorry to hear the house went to somone else, but I have a feeling this will all work out in the end, with them winning the bid on the perfect house for them in the end.

Lenda, thanks for the good wishes!  However the team gets the day off and play tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. central.  I have a hair appointment in the morning and should be getting results around the time I get home.  I hope the heat isn't too bad in the morning, because DS said it was brutal late afternoon yesterday with no cloud cover and temp of 90.  Who knows how hot it actually felt?!

Jack, the new color sounds nice, and I think the white trim with a bit of black will really contrast well.

Wishing everyone a meaningful Junteenth.  Thank you Rich, Vanessa, Debbie, Dixie, and Ann.  I'll pass on the days but endorse the Eliot quote and celebrate the contributions of the Bobbies.  I've been to Puerto twice, Crystal Symphony in 2016 and Elegant Explorer in 2019.  I'll pass on the Chili.  My alternative is Chilled Pear, Cucumber, and Melon Gazpacho, Classic Caesar Salad, and Sauteed Pork Chop as served on MS Prinsendam June 3, 2015.

@Cruzin Terri I think it's good advice to try to get outside at least for a little while to help reset your body clock.

Code Orange air quality today so I headed off to the Mall to complete my walk before the crowds arrived,

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  Happy Juneteenth; a very good thing to celebrate.  I haven't had a true martini in years, never did like the olives, so I'll enjoy the pseudo-martinis that @kochleffel doesn't care for.  We've never had a pet in film, but early in our marriage, our beloved Lump (huge grey cat) was photographed and appeared in the yellow pages ad for the photographer.  I still have that clipped and tucked away somewhere.  I'd have loved to have brought my cat to work, but don't think judicial robes and Ragdoll hair go well together.

We had a beautiful day to go to the cemetery yesterday - bright sunshine and just enough breeze to keep the mosquitos from being a nuisance.  There were only 8 of us, but we managed to tidy up the graves, making them presentable for anyone who decides to visit.  We returned to the city where we lounged around and enjoyed our Italian dinner on the deck.  Around 7:30 it started clouding in with some heavier wind and then the ran began - it continued well until after midnight which is great for all the lawns and farmers surrounding the city.  No watering needed for a few days for us!

@Quartzsite Cruiser yikes on your temperatures - be careful and be sure to keep hydrated!

@smitty34877 sending good wishes for your DH's oncologist appt.

@cruising sister sorry your kids lost the house; I remember the disappointments when that happened to us years ago.  Hopefully they'll find the house of their dreams and everything will fall into place for them.

@StLouisCruiserscongrats to Ren's team - good luck for tomorrow!

@Cruzin Terri so glad your clothes caught up with you and strongly advise you to get outside and walk around, even though you feel like you're dragging.

I'd like the drink of the day (am I the only person who doesn't like to have their drinks rimmed with salt/spicy mix?), and would likely die of thirst before I was able to order today's wine, although it isn't pricey.  The only chili I've ever known has had beans and ground beef, so I can't imagine (a) not having beans, or (b) not having meat.  LOL   I've got some pork chops thawing that will be breaded and cooked in the air fryer and will be served along with asparagus and potato salad on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations!

Smooth Sailing!☺️☺️☺️

Sailing up the Loire River past ship yards where cruise ship Utopia is being constructed and a yard that has built such classics as Normandie.

This combo ocean/river cruising is great.

Should be arriving Nantes in an hour.

What a great adventure.

Good morning. Thanks for the Fleet Report/Daily. Celebrating Juneteenth!

I'll pass on a martini, pets can be cute in films, and no cat here (or work). I like the quote. I've had good vegetarian chili, so I like the meal (although I prefer meat in mine). Pass on the drink and yes to the wine. I've heard of the Peelers as well as Bobbies from my visits to London.

I have been to Puerto Madryn.

Our temps are ramping up this week, with increased humidity. Also another air quality alert, with our AQI going to 104 (code orange), unhealthy for sensitive groups.

@StLouisCruisers Good luck to Ren and team tomorrow!

@summer slope I've been meaning to ask how your friend with the brain injury is doing?

@aliaschief Rest up on your sea day. Thanks for the food photos.

@ottahand7 I too felt odd watching the US Open so late at night. Nice photos.

@smitty34877 I hope the meeting with the oncologist is informative, and good to have DD and DSIL to help navigate all the medical hurdles.

@Cruzin Terri I'm glad your bags arrived. I'm sure the stress has contributed to your tiredness, and hope you feel better today (I agree with getting outside in the fresh air).

@dfish Thanks for the recipes.

@cruising sister Sorry to hear the kids lost out on the house; I'm sure these days it's so hard to purchase a house.

@Quartzsite Cruiser Yikes on that heat!

@Heartgrove Interesting about choosing paint colors; it's not easy!

@rafinmd Thanks for the sunrise photo.

Prayers for the Care List and a Cheer for those with something to Celebrate.

It's a good thing I looked at my calendar for the time of my hair appointment tomorrow morning.  Usually I have 9:45 am but this is a rescheduled appointment and it's 12:30 pm.  I would have shown up 3 hours early.  So I should know the results of the game by the time I leave.  I really hope it doesn't go into penalty kicks to determine a winner!  That's too stressful on everyone!

By the way,  I'm getting worried about Annie @marshhawk.  She hasn't posted since Thursday morning before Chuck's doctor appointment.  😧

Good morning all!

Good days to celebrate today.  DD has both her kittens with her at work most days since she works from home most of the time.  Since they're still kittens it can be challenging as you can imagine. I've gotten photos of one or both on her shoulders, hanging off from her, and chewing on computer cords. She loves it though.

I think all our kids don't have work today and know the DGSs don't have school in honor of Juneteenth.  As our older DGS said, they get a 3-day weekend, and then 2 hours of school on Tuesday and then get summer vacation.  Too bad they couldn't just end school last Friday, but what do I know LOL.

Good quote, I'll pass on the meal (prefer beans and meat in my chili), and will pass on the red wine and drink. Tonight we'll be having the salmon with asparagus and potatoes, recipe from a few days ago.   I agree with Gerry @ger_77, I prefer drinks that aren't rimmed with salt/spicy mix.  Also will join her with the pseudo martinis and pass on the real martinis with olives. 😉

Yesterday was crazy weather for June -- rain all day, very heavy at times, even hail (tiny but hail).  Thunder and lightening!  I was surprised all my flowers made it through that deluge. It feels so cold I even turned on the fireplace last night (!)

Sandi @StLouisCruisers Congratulations to Ren's team and good luck tomorrow!

Lorraine @cruising sister I'm sorry the kids lost out on the house. The right one will happen! Seems to be the way things are going now, at least here it's just nuts.  DS and DDIL lost out on 3 or 4 houses before finally getting the one they have.  And houses here are going for half again the asking price at least.

Thank you Nancy @ottahand7and Vanessa @JazzyVfor the photos of Puerto Madryn.  We haven't been there yet, but it's on our itinerary for the South America/Antarctica in 2025.

Terry @smitty34877 I hope the visit with the oncologist today goes well.

Good morning, all! Take Your Cat to Work Day could make public transit very interesting during rush hour.🤔

Growing up, it was taken for granted that chilli had beans and meat. It was always called Chilli con Carne, which implied there’s also a chilli without meat, but chilli without beans was unheard of. Decades later and across the continent, chilli without beans is rare and generally seen as a topping on something else. It must be regional.

We are back on the mainland after a long transit day yesterday. Rain has set in, so most of my favorite island activities would be shelved anyway. Two of my three banana plants survived winter without me and are growing again. Last year my two hostas were finally a good size with lots of blooms. I don’t know what the new gardeners did while I was gone, but the hostas are both just a few weak shoots struggling to survive. It’s like they chopped out the main plants and missed a spot. I hope they didn’t assume they were communal plants and relocate them elsewhere! But the roses doing well, and the lilies are starting to bloom, so the garden is still happy.

Happy Monday, everyone, and cheers to our favorite BHB’s, wherever they may be!

@StLouisCruisers I too hope @marshhawk Annie is ok.

@Horizon chaser 1957 My usually robust hostas are looking puny this year. I don't know if it's the drought and me being away for 6 weeks. Also my hydrangeas didn't bloom at all on the old wood, as they usually do, although they have new leafage from the roots. And my roses didn't bloom! I wonder if the mild winter also had something to do with it.

Chili is peculiarly a specialty of local chains of chili parlors in Cincinnati, Ohio. The most iconic way to order it is "five-way": spaghetti, chili, beans, onion, and cheese, always served on small oval plates. It is not very much like Texas chili or any other chili anywhere; the characteristic seasoning is more Greek than anything else. I have had moussaka in Greece that tasted a lot like it, minus the beans.

We have celebrated Juneteenth at the synagogue since before it was a legal holiday. Last year a Black Jewish activist spoke over Zoom; this year the rabbi gave a sermon about the (mostly mis-) treatment of Jews of color within the Jewish community.

My office is open today. We close on MLK day in January, but Juneteenth falls right before our annual meeting, which is tomorrow. We serve hamburgers and hot dogs, plus various salads, at the meeting; my particular job is to buy vegan burgers and gluten-free rolls for members who want them, and to make five-bean salad (not anything like Cincinnati chili except that it contains beans). Multi-bean salad is a picnic tradition, but we also serve it because there are vegetarian members who prefer not to eat analogues such as Impossible or Beyond burgers.

Good warm and sunny afternoon. It’s currently 80 with a real feel of 93 and a code orange for air quality. I’m not going anywhere.

I received an alert on BBC news that a tourist sub that takes them to view the TItanic has gone missing. It’s not known how many people are onboard. It has 96 hours of life support according to the company 🙏

Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

There I was,  reading the Daily last Thursday at 12:25 when my screen went blank, a phrase of Oh Snap came up ( I said something different) and that was the end of my internet and home phone. Until 5 minutes ago. Couldn't call , couldn't get calls, and most of all I couldn't work.  No internet. (Actually the worst of it was I couldnt get the F1 channel, and Chuck hooked up his phone to watch the race, and then we got a message, that his phone was running too hot, and if he didn't turn it off, then F1 would, and they did.).

Because we called on Thursday, and Chuck got an appointment for this morning, he forgot he was supposed to be at the doctors office in midtown today.  This is much further than he has driven in over 6 years du to his vision problems.  But off he went.  He called my cell to tell me he had arrived, and asked what the status was of the internet.  WELL, it turns out that due to bad maintenance and lack of updates, every one in the hood, had lost internet.  So at noon, someone somewhere, jiggled a line, and we are back up.  I am supposed to work, but I want to be available in case Chuck calls and I cant be if I am on the phones.

I missed you all!  You would think that with 5 days of no connection with anyone, I would have done something, well here it is, in 5 days, I made two necklaces, read half a book, took some pictures of the garden in the front,  and cleaned out the bottom shelf of the pantry.  That's it.  Oh, and I went to the heart and vein doc for a follow up.  I seem to have pinched a nerve near my right shoulder blade, and have been in pain, since last wednesday.  It is making my right arm go tingly.

and now to catch up

I missed you all!  You would think that with 5 days of no connection with anyone, I would have done something, well here it is, in 5 days, I made two necklaces, read half a book, took some pictures of the garden in the front,  and cleaned out the bottom shelf of the pantry.  That's it.  Oh, and I went to the heart and vein doc for a follow up.  I seem to have pinched a nerve near my right shoulder blade, and have been in pain, since last wednesday.  It is making my right arm go tingly.

and now to catch up

Thank goodness it was only (?) internet problems and you two are okay!  I was worried. 🙁 I remember having a few off and on issues with internet a short while ago and you feel like you'll go nuts if you can't get online.  Only ours was TV problems too.  I hope your nerve issue can be fixed and Chuck arrives back home safe and sound.  Take care!!
