Will there be Gelato on the Koningsdam??

Yes, but it is a modest surcharge. It is excellent and well worth the small surcharge price, when compared to buying a quality gelato on shore. There is a Gelato station by the Dive-In near the central pool area.

Banoffee Pie - and second the Peanut Butter Pie.

Liked the Oatmeal Chocolate bars in the Lido this time. And the MDR creme brûlée was excellent.

Room service chocolate cake is always rich, moist and excellent.

I do believe they use the "good chocolate" when making HAL chocolate desserts. Holland after all is a known chocolate country.

Of current menus/desserts being served it is definitely the Peanut Butter Pie, served ONLY for Lunch on Embarkation Day. Someone mentioned only served on Saturday, that is not true. It is only on Embarkation Day, my last 4 Embarkation Days were Sunday. But I have also embarked on Wednesday Volendam s verbal years ago and that was my first time to have the Peanut Butter Pie and the Hotel Manager told me that was only prepared for embarkation. I think that was in 2016. Prior to the pandemic they also served it for lunch in the main dining room. But since the restart it is only in the Lido. Or at least what I have found.

Despite my long list of favorite chocolate desserts, I forgot to mention the brownie dessert at lunch in the Pinnacle Grill! Decadent chocolate brownie with coffee gelato. It is super creamy and delicious! It’s worth the price of lunch alone 😀

Fruit crisps are often not on the menu, but ask your waiter.  There is always one fruit crisp available every evening even if it is not on the menu; it just varies which kind of fruit.  They are delicious.

Shhhh! They are a secret! My favorite dessert!😉

Bitterballen… a classic Dutch meat based snack.  They are delicious… if you’re not Dutch, you’re not much… at least that’s what my mother always said.

Bitterballen is good, but not what my choice would be for dessert!!!

Great tip, thanks! Wish I had known this in the past. This would be a good tip for the current “Secrets” thread, too.

I agree! Love this cake! I enjoy it for dessert when I order a Club Sandwich.

I want to recall there being a similar-but-not-identical chocolate cake in the Lido that is only served once or twice per cruise? Does anyone know the name?

I’ve also had a chocolate raspberry cake in the Lido that was fabulous.

I think the poster was responding to my (incorrect) naming of the giant cream puff.

Still not sure what it is called, but you can just point.

BOSSCHE BOL

filled with Chantilly cream

Or named after the ship, also seen as the Konigsbol.

(Hence confusion with the name of the savory Dutch Cafe "bitterballen"?)

Years ago on the Veendam, they had liquers at the ice cream station at the Lido.

I asked for creme de menthe to be put on top of my ice cream. Delicious! 😊

Those were the days!

Back in the days when they had free after dinner chocolate candies in the Explorers Lounge when a classical ensemble was playing,  along with a variety of liquors available for fancy coffees drinks.  (Those were not free)`

I'm not normally a dessert guy, unless I'm cruising. Our favs:

1. Salzburger Nockerl at Rudy's is a sharing size fruit flan that was fantab.

2. The Bossche Bol at the Dutch Cafe, also sharable, is pretty fantastic.

3. Creme brulé at the Pinnacle

4. Banana crisp (and banana pies) at the Lido

Peanut butter pie. it is only served on first day in the buffet.

My all time favorite in land based restaurants.  Have never seen it on a ship.  Which ship?

I will look for it on day 1 in Lido buffet from now on.

Edited to add: thanks for showing pics of HAL's version of peanutbutter pie, now I know what to look for.  In the land based restaurants where I have ordered PButter pie it is more of a cream pie w/ whipped topping or meringue.  Creamy & lightly flavored w/ peanutbutter.
