Muster Drill

We just finished the muster drill (AKA Passenger Safety Drill) on the Zuiderdam in Vancouver.

I don't remember seeing it posted before, but attendance was taken by scanning our cabin cards.

It went very smoothly!

Copper posted a while ago they were converting to card scanners for attendance and it sounds like a way better system than calling out cabin numbers. Thanks for telling us it is in use on Zuiderdam.

I just got off the zuiderdam and thought it was great. We went through all 3.stages of alarms and went to our lifeboat, got a life jacket demo and were done. They scanned cards and called out a few missing cabin s.

That's great news. On the Amsterdam two weeks ago it was still the shouting out of names, but I am glad to hear HAL is moving to the scanning of cards.

Will be on the Zuiderdam in January, so am really happy to hear about this positive change. We have long wondered why HAL didn't move to this procedure, when it would be so much easier on the passengers AND the crew.

This is good! On Rotterdam two weeks ago they gave up calling Najee's, you couldn't hear anything due to the harbor helicopters, ships horns, etc. it was a cluster.

That was not done in July on the Oosterdam but it sure sounds like a plan!

Anyone know if the cards are being scanned on the Westerdam? Hope so, as we board in a week!

I was on the Statendam this past June and the muster drill was still the old way. However, I do love this new way of doing things and hope it will be implemented on the Ryndam in November.

HAL did away with wearing life jackets to muster drill a few years ago. You just turn up.

Question re the card scanning---- does everyone in the cabin scan their card or just one person?

The same on Rotterdam departure August 16. Of course not all passengers were there, so it took a while. Great way they start scanning now.

Just had a friend return from Alaska on The Zaandam -- will check with her re the card scanning

Also, DH and I will be on The Statendam a week today for a wee 5 day Pacific Coastal -- will see if they have made the change yet!!
