Kimba1910 Posted July 16, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Has anyone heard of this? http://www.nonrevtravelnews.com/2017/03/14/dont-wear-camo-in-the-caribbean/ Sent from my iPhone using Forums
whogo Posted July 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 16, 2017 I knew camouflage was verboten in Barbados. Doesn't affect me, don't wear it anywhere.
spookwife Posted July 16, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 16, 2017 while I will not say it is common knowledge in that everyone knows this, it is mentioned every so often.
champagne123 Posted July 16, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Very interesting. Thank you for sharing. I see kids wearing camouflage clothing often.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 16, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 16, 2017 This is very old news. We have been cruising over forty years, and have known about camo bans in Barbados for as long as we can remember. Must admit that we did not know about Jamaica. But as a long time cruiser we simply avoid camo stuff anywhere. And by the way, it is not a capital crime in Barbados. :). We once witnessed a teen boy being stopped on the pier (at Barbados) and simply being told he would have to go back onboard and change his shorts. At my age I certainly wouldn't be wearing any camo outfit to begin with, but I've known for a long time that it is not acceptable, in general, throughout the Caribbean. Shorex Posted July 16, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Camo also banned in many African countries - we simply never pack camo to travel abroad. Mostly because we don't have any - but even if we did, we wouldn't. ;)
zqvol Posted July 16, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Nothing new here. When you travel, unless you are going hunting leave your camo at home.
Wheatie59 Posted July 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Yep, old news. Our last cruise had a stop in Jamaica, so I picked up a new hat because the one I normally use has camo on the underside of the brim.
champagne123 Posted July 16, 2017 #11 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Perhaps it is old news...but I, myself have never heard of this. (I guess I am a dummy) Although this does not affect me, I am sure it may affect others that also did not know this..so I appreciate the info. Wayfairers Posted July 16, 2017 #12 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Camo is either banned or not a good idea in many parts of the world. Sent from my iPad using Forums
jocap Posted July 16, 2017 #13 Share Posted July 16, 2017 There's usually been a warning on the ship's newspaper about this when we've travelled; we, too, discovered that we had camo under the rim of a sunhat and had to rebuy on one occasion- we'd just never noticed! OCruisers Posted July 16, 2017 #14 Share Posted July 16, 2017 Camouflage is a "no no" for most Caribbean islands. Also, it's the camouflage pattern in any colors.
CPT Trips Posted July 17, 2017 #15 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Nothing new here. When you travel, unless you are going hunting leave your camo at home. And even if you are going hunting, camo is frequently inappropriate.

(I guess I am a dummy) Although this does not affect me, I am sure it may affect others that also did not know this..so I appreciate the info. Same here. I've been on several cruises and had no idea about this. I don't wear it, but it's good to know in case I ever travel with someone who might have something with a camo design on it. cb at sea Posted July 17, 2017 #17 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Yes..if you read any guidebook, it clearly states to leave your "camo" clothes at home!
biker@sea Posted July 17, 2017 #18 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Camo is for military only in Bermuda. Rumor has it Swear word's on a tee in Barbados can land you in Jail. ;p
Rare sparks1093 Posted July 17, 2017 #19 Share Posted July 17, 2017 It's only old news if you've heard it before, there are new people cruising/traveling for the first time every day and I'm sure this would be new news to them.
Beachdude Posted July 17, 2017 #20 Share Posted July 17, 2017 I think this subject is always interesting. I guess some folks assume that new members automatically know all the old subjects. Things change, so an occasion review is good for the forum. I was shopping for shorts yesterday and noted how popular camo patterns are still popular and stylish. I was even surprised to see a few people wearing camo in Europe on the Rick Steves show. Burt
Rare BillOh Posted July 17, 2017 #21 Share Posted July 17, 2017 while I will not say it is common knowledge in that everyone knows this, it is mentioned every so often. Agreed, I didn't know it till I heard the CD's morning show when we arrived in Barbados back in 2014. I would ASSUME if you were wearing something as you exited the ship security would have said something.

SantaFeFan Posted July 17, 2017 #23 Share Posted July 17, 2017 I was shopping for shorts yesterday and noted how popular camo patterns are still popular and stylish. Sorry, nothing stylish about camo clothing. "Popular" and "stylish" are not synonymous and are often opposites. :p
CPT Trips Posted July 17, 2017 #24 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Camo is for military only in Bermuda. Rumor has it Swear word's on a tee in Barbados can land you in Jail. ;p Sadly, that consequence for tee shirts isn't imposed on the ship.
