Ecstasy tragedy this morning

Another tragedy that could have been averted had the person followed the rules and stayed out of a restricted area. If the ship was sailing back into the POM this morning, the bars would have been closed. If alcohol was involved, they probably can't blame Carnival. That is one knock on my cabin door, or phone call from Carnival I never want to experience.

It has everything to do with stupidity, sorry for being so blunt.

Sorry, but I agree. Not that the poor boy was stupid, but that he obviously did something stupid.....as any one of us can do and probably have done. Very ufortunately, his consequences are greater and more grave than he probably expected. I assume as has been mentioned that he has a grieving family, and I hope that they can come to terms with their grief. I feel bad for the boy and for them. What a sad situation.

Doubly sad, because even if he had not fallen, he would most likely had a lifetime of illnesses from the massive amount of 3cm and 10cm radar waves he would have received up there. Even the crew don't climb that mast at sea, and there are specific lock out procedures before going aloft there. Not only are there warning signs prohibiting access, but warning of the radar danger.

Civilian marine radars rarely have a power density of more than 10W/m^2 when you're a meter away from them. Assuming this guy weighed 90kg and had a cross-sectional area of 1m^2, his SAR would've been about 0.11W/kg, well below the 4W/kg needed to produce known adverse health effects according to the WHO.

Why would someone try and climb something they shouldn't....

Seriously? Why do people make poor decisions everyday? The kid, and yes I mean kid, was only 20 years old. College age kids don't always make the best choices or think out the consequences of their actions.

That's what I was going to say!

Agreed. Sometimes at that age they think that they are invincible. I still say to my daughter "what were you thinking?"

Prayers for the family.

Very sad... still a "baby" to his parents.

We all did not so smart things and look back and say...WOW !!! how did I ever survive that?

Prayers, prayers and more prayers so everyone....

Any young ones reading this ... please think before you do something you are not supposed to do. If you know it isn't right.. well it isn't. Don't hurt yourself and most important your families will suffer the rest of their lives..

Enjoy your cruise... but remember you are the future of the generation and well loved by many

Cathy
