Reasons to Cruise

Some of the reasons I cruise. Others can add their reasons.

1. I'm not driving and stressing about the traffic!

2. Unpack once, no matter where in the world I go.

3. Wonderful bed that I don't have to make everyday.

4. Clean towels for the asking.

5. Good food that I'm not cooking, cleaning up after, or doing the dishes.

6. NO time schedule unless I want to schedule it!

To see and experience different parts of the world!! We cruise for the itinerary. The wonderful service, food and entertainment is all icing on the cake. :D

Pretty much this for us as well. We would never have seen so much of the world if it were not for cruising. It would be really daunting and exhausting to try to reach some of these places by another mode of transportation!

and...

Never having to decide the menu for dinner - only what to choose - then trying new foods or combinations

Amazing crew and port experts

Meeting some awesome people and hearing grand stories

A second vote for getting dressed up for dinner (yeah scrapnana)

There are two different cruise types for us.

One is a simple, easy, inexpensive, lazy trip to recharge our crazy busy lifestyle. Came in point, we are booked on a 11 day Koningsdam Carobbean trip.

The other is a way to explore areas otherwise not possible or as efficient. Case in point, our 2014 Norweigen fjords cruise.

For me, it is a way to sample the world. I don't get to visit in depth on a cruise ship, but I do see places I want to return to, on my own. (My main problem with cruising is I only get to see the coast, and some parts of the world demand more time and attention.). But I can rule out places, as well......been to Tahiti once, that was enough. Been to Barcelona....need at least a week! So I can be more effective and efficient when I plan my own trips.

But as we get older, I can see cruising changing for us. I've met a lot of older cruisers who find it a safe, comfortable way to get outside their somewhat limited daily life and meet new people and see new things. So I expect that in the future, we'll be those cruisers ourselves.

Just not yet!

My DW's list is short:

1. No cooking

2. No cleaning

3. No Washing

4. No errand running

5. No baby sitting

She really does not care where we go - if we just stayed at the pier for 2 weeks she would be fine with that!

Lovely restaurants a brief stroll from my stateroom: Where I lived until very recently, there were ZERO fine dining establishments for miles around.

On other vacations, night after night, it can get to be a hassle when tired from long days of sightseeing to research and reserve good places to eat...get cabs, and pay the scary checks at the end of the meals.

There's also the accompanying ambiance - the sight, sound and smell of the sea from your balcony and/or the promenade deck with a pre-dinner cocktail or nightcap in hand.

I find that whatever troubles or worries you may have at home, when you step on that gangway to board a ship they all disappear for the duration. That doesn't happen on any other kind of vacation.

Being able to easily (and safely) go to the Crows Nest, showroom, a movie or the Casino etc. alone if traveling partner wants to go to sleep or read in the cabin, or vice versa.

Go on a shore ex. with others (Ship sponsored or CC member formed) if traveling partner has a different shore ex in mind, etc. Not always so easy or safe to do on land trips, depending on the location.

Love to do things onboard and onshore with DH or traveling friend, but I also like the ability to safely choose my own things to do part of the time. Some land trips this works as well, some not so easily.

DH loves to relax and read or watch movies in the cabin. I like to be out and about most of the time (lectures, games, just chatting, etc.) Cruise ship life is perfect for this! Each evening we each pick out what we want to do the next day - then compare notes. If we both want to hear the same lecture we meet-up. Trivia - we meet up. But if we have different interests we each do our won, always meeting for drinks before dinner and usually meet for lunch. Breakfast - I am done eating before he is usually even out of bed.

I do think that your DW and I are identical twins, separated at birth!!!

We cruise for the itinerary. As others have said its a great way to see the world in a short amount of time (for us it has been cruises to Alaska, Med, Baltic and Norway fjords). We can then decide if and where to return for a land vacation for more in depth exploration. Also, it is the perfect oceanfront room (cabin). I love just staring at the ocean.
