Norwegian Bliss

Very happy to see this news since we really enjoyed Epic and Getaway and to have a brand new ship with wonderful entertainment less than a four hour drive from our house is more than I hoped for. They using the Bliss name and she'll have Wyland hull art :)

We've done Alaska cruises on the Pearl, the Sun and the Jewel and loved all of them. The Bliss itinerary is not as exciting as something like the special Jewel 10 day itinerary that included Sitka and Icy Strait Point, Glacier Bay and full inside passage. However, all of the Alaska ports have beautiful scenery and something to do and now we'll have a ship with entertainment and dining options we didn't have before.

See the Sun's 14 day 5/15/17 "Ultimate Alaska".

I've seen it - wonderful itinerary on a ship I love. We were booked on the Sun with a special balcony stateroom but cancelled the sailing when NCL came up with the Jade British Isles cruises. We're now booked on the 11 Day Jade cruise May 22nd and can't be in two places at once.

They must figure that the ship will be enough to sell the cruises, they don't need a new exciting itinerary, too. Look at the Escape and the Breakaway, they haven't put any effort into those ships, itinerary-wise (and I would sail either of them in a heartbeat :)).

At least let's hope Bliss gets a great outdoors and a Spinnaker Lounge not just for suite members.

And I truly hope to see Pearl and Sun in Alaska as well in 2018...

I'm guessing that the Concierge Lounge (forward observation lounge) on Joy will be open to the masses on Bliss, and that the space used for the other Concierge (i.e. 2nd Class) areas (like multiple casinos) on Joy will be used for the Studios.

I'm also willing to bet that the Galaxy Lounge on Joy will carry over but that the go-karts will not. I'm also willing to guess there will be no water slides.

In addition to the four cantilevered hot tubs in the Haven and Vibe, I notice two more cantilevered hot tubs: one on either side of the main pool up on the sun deck. And is there one either side just forward of Spice H2O?

I wish I knew what the rounded pavilion in the main pool area is... (just aft of the Haven.)

My guess is that it will be split with one side open to the masses and the other being Haven exclusive. Similar to deck 19 sundeck forward on Escape.

The image at the link, below, shows that the Haven has its own glass-enclosed "sky box" above the main lounge area. Given how few Haven passengers there are, I'm hoping they will get that amount of space and no more.

Bruiser, it seems to get a covered Great Outdoors at Spice H2O (similar to Norwegian Joy's render);

And where's the glass-enclosed pool?!? I just do not get how NCL does not understand how deficient their designs are in that respect.

And here's the link to FreestyleNovice's post with the Great Outdoors/Spice H2O hybrid:

Just aft of the stack it almost looks like a magrodome....eliminate the rope course and put in a domed area. As far as go carts...I still cant figure out that idea on the Joy...the number of passengers that can make use of that much deck space at any one time is so few.

I anxiously await Bliss's. schedule.....I am also curious as to where she will go at the end of the Alaska season. My guess is New Zealand.....the weather is cool in the South Island area so this design might work well there. If she does head down there I will book immediately. Second choice would be a canal cruise if she heads back to the Caribbean in October. Already know what cabin to book if the selection mirrors the Escape. Can't believe I got my NCL loyalty returning...Jade next month, Escape in May, Spirit the following January.....now Bliss!

I hope you're right about the magrodome and New Zealand. I would love both. Having a pool area in lieu of the go karts would make a lot of sense, especially with Spice H2O having more of a Great Outdoors vibe. Even if there isn't a proper pool, I would be content with a few hot tubs and maybe a couple water features. A grotto would work well with the Alaska theme. Now you have my hopes up.

We had assumed that the Bliss would replace the Jewel when she goes on her Asian/Australian adventures.

Ant even begin to imagine the cost of taking her through the canal. For a while, one of the NCL small ships had the record toll through the canal (partially charged by the number of people on board).

In fact Bliss should replace Jewel on her Alaska itinerary, according to her press release it's exactly the itinerary on which Jewel is serving currently...

It seems Jewel will stay in Asia for the summer season... [emoji853] and return to Australian waters during fall and winter, i think.

Now it leaves the question for me which ships could return to Europe.

Obviously there will be no ship sailing from Miami in summer, when Escape really sails from NYC in 2018, Breakaway surely as well.

Canal tolls for cruise ships are (mostly?) based upon total number of beds aboard, plus they pay extra for a guaranteed daytime transit. Most of which can in part be passed on to the passengers.

As for records, wikipedia says " The most expensive regular toll for canal passage to date was charged on April 14, 2010 to the cruise ship Norwegian Pearl, which paid US$375,600."

While everything that's been said makes sense, I can't believe that NCL would leave the Caribbean to Carnival, Royal, MSC, and even Celebrity for the summer Celebrity is home porting the Equinox( an S Class) in Miami starting in April year round. I know Princess and HAL leave for the summer, but they are more upscale than NCL, in spite of what FDR thinks. I think they would be taking a chance losing families to the other lines. I'm not counting Celebrity with this, because it's a different market IMHO.

Did I miss the memo on Escape? This is the first I'm hearing about her leaving Miami. Summer 2017 she's alternating Eastern and Western Caribbean. I would expect that to continue for the foreseeable future. Breakaway is staying in NY for the foreseeable future, too, eh?

Thus far, the last Western Caribbean for Escape is Oct. 2017. From then on until March/early April 2018, Escape goes back to Eastern Caribbean.

Nothing is listed by NCL after that but someone posted that Escape is going up the Northeast based on a port listing showing Escape somewhere up there. Someone else will remember but I've mentally blocked that information. :(

Rumor is that Escape will be moving to NYC. Nothing concrete only time will tell
