Help Can I make a 9:20 flight out of FLL, Regal Princess gets in at 6:00 a.m.

I had a cruise from Port Everglades (Eurodam) and did the first walkoff, only to find that the Port Authority had not let in ANY taxis or private cars. Since I had to be in Orlando for a 2pm flight, and pick up a rental car from FLL to do it, we got in the first available vehicle which was something like $15 per person--and there were 4 of us. Annoyed the heck out of me that I had to pay $60 to go a few miles but at least I was not waiting. We passed a very long line of taxis waiting to get in to the port.

FLL is a sad airport to wait for a flight because they won't even let you check in until 3 hours prior, and there are never enough seats in the gate area, and as pax who are waiting we're forced to the bag claim area for some space. But I'd rather be sitting on the floor somewhere than stressing about making an early flight.

On our last venture through FLL we were pushing our luck for a 9:30 AM flight. We were the first in line for the walk off group which did not start until about 7:20. We got down to immigration and there was one agent. We hopped a cab and made it with just a little time to spare. Several passengers missed their earlier flights and were told that flights to Atlanta all day had 20 or more standbys already. I will not push our luck again!

Of course, Maybe, Possibly, With Luck, If everything goes as scheduled, People have done it before.......

Six times we made our 1:30pm flight to JFK with plenty of time..so we book the 11:55 on the seventh time.(still playing it safe)...Immigration problems and no one got off the ship before 10am. Disaster with transportation to airport..a back log of cars, taxis, buses at the port with frantic passengers. We got to airport at 11:50..missed the flight. The worse part..no available flights until next day! We were lucky to get the last room at a Fairfield Inn. Two couples shared one room..what a way to end two peaceful weeks,

Eighth time..back to 1:30 flight, made it with so much time to spare..but never stressed while on cruise.

Nineth time (this coming March) out of FLL..two choices of flights 12:30 or 2:30..rather sit and wait, then sweat it. Choose the 2:30.

But then again, plenty of people have made the early flights.

BTW, if you take Princess Insurance and miss the early flights (before 11:45/12 noon recommended time) the insurance will not cover added expenses.

OMG, please let us know how it works out for you.

That is waaaay to early for my sanity level, but there are some dare devils out there who are willing to try.

Good luck, seriously, I hope you make your flight!!

For most of those on the ship gambling ends when the casino closes down the final night of the cruise.

You have the opportunity to extend the gambling until the airport as to whether or not you will make your flight.

He never said it was transatlantic.

That's correct.

I only brought up that possibility because it's in the right general timeframe for ships to be repositioning from Europe back to the US, and since OP did not mention his itinerary, I thought it was info worth sharing.

Hi everyone I'm on Regal Princess in November and it gets into FLL at 6:00 a.m. Can I make a 9:20 flight out of FLL?

Has anybody booked a flight that is 3 hours and 20 minutes after the cruise ports? If I take my own luggage off the ship could I be off the ship by 7:30? This should give me enough time I would think because it's only a 10 minute taxi ride to FLL.

Thanks everyone.

I would never consider booking a flight this early. There are just too many things that could happen. Personally, I never book anything before 1500 when flying out of Ft. Lauderdale/Miami.....:):):)

THIS is insanity...years ago we could walk off the ship early, then more and more people started to line up at 5 AM, recently it became impossible, the line, ON THE SHIP snaked almost up the stairs !

Couple this with people who arrive at 3 PM at FLL and rush over to the ship.

This all is great...as long as*** MR MURPHY*** doesn't decide to get involved...

I think the Regal is the first ship into FLL on the 26th. at 6:00 a.m. This is a 7 day Western Caribbean Cruise.

Wouldn't this mean we will beat the other ships as far as getting off the ship?

Not necessarily as it also depends on so many other factors.

I don't know what else they could do at that time.

Did you mean 3 AM?

I think the vast majority of people here would recommend that you not attempt to fly out so early out of FLL and I would agree with them. Sure, some may have been successful in doing so, but why, after you have just had what was hopefully a stress-free, enjoyable vacation, would you stress yourself out over getting on an early flight home?! FLL is one of those ports where there are usually a bunch of ships all arriving around the same time and you are banking on everything going perfectly to make such an early flight.

I take care of all of the travel arrangements for our cruises which my wife greatly appreciates and I always make sure that the travel is as stress-free as possible. Book a later flight and have a relaxing disembarkment experience after a relaxing cruise experience.

If you want to cut it that tight, I suggest the following backup plan: book a REFUNDABLE one-way flight home on a later flight ON A DIFFERENT AIRLINE. If you make the first flight, cancel the second flight and enjoy the refund. If you miss the first flight, take the second flight and eat the fact that your first flight was non-refundable. (You need to book on different airlines as the contract of carriage for almost every airline has language that prevents "impossible" ticketing, and you can't rely on the airline to just put you on the next flight with seats. In bad weather, that next flight with seats available could be six days in the future, as it was for us once flying out of Phily.)

9:20 seems too risky. That said, when we've done walk-off, we've gotten to the check in counter at FLL by 7:45-8:00 on most occasions, and have made it through security by 8:10-8:15, and this is on a Monday when only two ships have been in port, not a weekend day when many ships are in port.

We've done this several times, but our flights are always for 11:30-11:55, so we end up spending a lot of time at FLL pre-flight. [emoji50]

Too Risky; better plan, book an overnight stay at one of the FL hotels, then grab a flight next morning. Relax at the hotel, leave at your leisure.

  • 4 months later...
We just disembarked Regal with the 6:20 group that actually started about 6:30.We were sitting at the airport gate at 7:10 for a 9:00 flight. We do have global entry which also gives us TSA precheck..

Thanks for posting---we're on the Regal in January and have a 10:00am flight ---we have TSA pre-check as well. Hope you had a great cruise!
